If you're struggling with barre chords, go to a lighter-gauge set of strings. Seriously -- I switched from .12-.53 to .11-.52 and it has made ALL the difference in my barre chords!! Who'da thunk such a small change could make such a big difference, but wow! Definitely something to consider next time you need to change your strings.
Barr chords used to kick my butt. My low was when I saw a 10 year old girl in a music store just nailing them. But then her mother told me her instructor had her not only use her hand when barring, but to pull back with her shoulder and arm, as those muscles are a lot stronger. Barr chords no longer an issue!
As newbie with arthritis 11’s made my acoustic come alive I recently retried 12’s and man the guitar was stiff. FYI lower tension will probably mean a new set up or at least check the neck relief if you start having buzzing at higher frets
So love the way you teach, Shane. You are so reassuring that no matter how impossible it feels in the beginning, that with practice, we can do this! Thanks so much for your lessons!
Well done Shane! Got to see JB in concert quite a few years ago now. Definitely a master musician and performer! Really love his song "These Days"! Hope that all is well & Happy Holidays! 👍👍🎸🎸
Man that was a great lesson to an iconic song of the past,l've always live it and now l can learn to play it! Thanks for the great lesson, you rock! So well instructed thanks again!!
Another great job Shane! No matter how accomplished of a guitarist we are there is always something to take from your lessons and incorporate into our playing. No one better out there at explaining the how and why. Thxs for your efforts.
Great teaching technique. I learned so much faster with your technique and approach than sooooo many other teachers who seem to get me hung up on little details and embellishments leading me to give up on some songs before I learn them. You separate embellishments from the necessary structure of the song first so we can gradually build on that. love it!
@@GuitarAtWork Thanks Shane. Not sure if youd be bothered but heres a video I just uploaded of me playing a Tom Petty song, cheers man 🙋 ua-cam.com/video/jFuYRtC3tQQ/v-deo.htmlsi=-N31I3k5Aeh8Ib32
Another great lesson Shane. What would you recommend. I’ve got an electric guitar but live in an apartment so the amp has been rarely used. I’ve started using a blackstar to connect to my guitar and headphones and that is great but is there a way of incorporating your beat buddy and looper into a quiet private system that won’t drive the neighbours mad?
Thanks Luc - glad you’re enjoying. For sure you could get a little mixer to plug everything into and then use headphones out of the mixer itself. That’s what I do. Cheers! Shane
You have the most expressive acoustic playing on the web! It always makes me smile. I am curious - do you have any thoughts on the relatively new V bracing on the Taylor guitars?
Thank you Shawn - it means a lot to me to receive a comment like that. I really enjoy doing this and love to hear from people like yourself who are enjoying. I LOVE my Taylor 814CE with V bracing. It’s a 2019 - I had one a few of years earlier with the older bracing and I found that I couldn’t dig in as hard. I can really beat this one up and it’s beautiful when played softly too. Highly recommended. Cheers! Shane

I started out with Barr chords. Now at 74 I have no problem with them. I have my older brother to thank for teaching me Barr chords.

I spent my first 14 months trying not to mute strings….and now I want to mute an e chord….and it’s tough! lol. Nice lesson

Is it expensive in Ottawa because I about wanna move up there to take your lessons in person
Thanks for that. Cheers
Jackson Browne came up with the intro idea due to a little issue with his friends broken piano
That’s cool - I didn’t know that. Fabulous.
Yes, Pamela Polland’s Piano.
What position would I solo with the capo on the first
VERY similar to Sister Golden Hair.
I cant find the song sheets to download, i need help
Hello, what part of Ont are you from ?
Hi Paul - I'm in Ottawa - cold here today. Cheers, Shane
