The story of the movie takes place in a mining town where a tragic accident has resulted
in the death or injury of numerous workers. Despite the outcry and demands for justice
from the townspeople, the mine owner adamantly refuses to compensate the families of
the victims, claiming no responsibility for the disaster. To defend himself, he has a
formidable army of fighters at his disposal. However, a former champion of the Iron Fist
Tournament decides to take matters into his own hands and confront him and his men.
Accompanied by a doctor and a mute friend, who share his desire for justice, the fighter
faces a host of challenges, including a female bandit leader, a corrupt official, a
mysterious assassin, and a rival fighter. As they progress, they uncover a larger
conspiracy involving the mine master that poses a threat to the region's peace.
The film features many fight scenes choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, who later became
famous for his work on films such as The Matrix (1999) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden
Dragon (2000). It was influenced by the kung fu craze of the 1970s and borrowed
elements from other martial arts films, such as Fist of Fury (1972) and The 36th
Chamber of Shaolin (1978). The film was also inspired by Western genres, such as
spaghetti westerns and blaxploitation films. The film was well-received by critics and
audiences in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but it was not widely distributed in other countries.
