A little dog tip. I have a white bumper in my boat/sled. I use it in my hand to give hand signals. Think of dogs perspective...eyes a few inches off the water, poor light, sometimes surf, you in came with camo gloves against a background that camo blends with. I hold the bumper centered on my body for the sit whistle, then give over or back with it. They see white quite well...

That’s a great idea. I always take off my hat and use the inside of it which is lighter in color.

This is a great technique for effective communication with them in challenging conditions, helping save time and avoid confusion. I’ll definitely give it a try! 😄🐾. Have you ever faced any challenges communicating with dogs outdoors? Any other tips that make it easier?

@@OldHunterTV I guess the only things that come to mind are 'overcommunication'. I see a lot of folks talking too much. Dog has finally figured out what you want and is yards away from the grab but handler has to say something...keep your mouth shut. 'hunt em up' while the dog is hunting...this just distracts the dog. I hunt upland a lot as well and have had dogs take off after a shot...out of sight, out of bell range, doesn't always happen but they come back w a bird. They saw something, smelled something that I did not. Leave them alone to do their job. ALos need to really pay attention to wind. Not only how it impacts their ability to hear, but how you place them for success. It's obvious, but if I'm walking to a long cripple, or handling the dog to one, I am erring on the downwind line.

@@paulvosejpka7287 Thank you for sharing your valuable experience! I completely agree with you about "overcommunication" - sometimes we talk too much and forget that the dog already knows what it’s supposed to do. They really have an incredible ability to detect and work independently. I’m also really impressed with your point about letting the dog do its job, especially when you mentioned that they can pick up on things we can't see or smell. Paying attention to the wind is also so important, and it's something not everyone considers, but it has such a big impact on success in hunting. Your observations and knowledge are truly admirable, and I appreciate you sharing them!

When it’s snowing, we use less decoys and put the ones we are using on a jerk string. Saves a lot of walking to dust the snow off.

No matter what, that was a beautiful hunt. The snow big groups. You don't always have to shoot a limit to have a good time🎉 Hunter needs to slow down a little bit. He's rushing his shots I think. Good to see you guys hunting together again. Boys getting big fast now. You're starting to make me feel old watching your videos seeing these kids grow up

From the great northwest public duck Blind, Very nice hunt you can't beat that weather, Those ducks are hard to ID in that condition. Myself I picked up a couple Hens, Then I shot a nice green head that went over on its back. I can see from a distance it's got a belly like a Hen. I thought oh no. But no that's exactly what it was A hen belly design on a mallard Drake. I guess I gotta get new decoys. OK God bless from the great Northwest. Where we see some strange birds?
