A little dog tip. I have a white bumper in my boat/sled. I use it in my hand to give hand signals. Think of dogs perspective...eyes a few inches off the water, poor light, sometimes surf, you in came with camo gloves against a background that camo blends with. I hold the bumper centered on my body for the sit whistle, then give over or back with it. They see white quite well...
I had never thought about that. Thank you for the tip.
That’s a great idea. I always take off my hat and use the inside of it which is lighter in color.
This is a great technique for effective communication with them in challenging conditions, helping save time and avoid confusion. I’ll definitely give it a try! 😄🐾. Have you ever faced any challenges communicating with dogs outdoors? Any other tips that make it easier?
@@OldHunterTV I guess the only things that come to mind are 'overcommunication'. I see a lot of folks talking too much. Dog has finally figured out what you want and is yards away from the grab but handler has to say something...keep your mouth shut. 'hunt em up' while the dog is hunting...this just distracts the dog. I hunt upland a lot as well and have had dogs take off after a shot...out of sight, out of bell range, doesn't always happen but they come back w a bird. They saw something, smelled something that I did not. Leave them alone to do their job. ALos need to really pay attention to wind. Not only how it impacts their ability to hear, but how you place them for success. It's obvious, but if I'm walking to a long cripple, or handling the dog to one, I am erring on the downwind line.
@@paulvosejpka7287 Thank you for sharing your valuable experience! I completely agree with you about "overcommunication" - sometimes we talk too much and forget that the dog already knows what it’s supposed to do. They really have an incredible ability to detect and work independently. I’m also really impressed with your point about letting the dog do its job, especially when you mentioned that they can pick up on things we can't see or smell. Paying attention to the wind is also so important, and it's something not everyone considers, but it has such a big impact on success in hunting. Your observations and knowledge are truly admirable, and I appreciate you sharing them!
Snow hunts are always some of the most rewarding hunts. It's great to see Hunter out there!
You got that right!
Snow on the decoys is definitely the problem. Been there and noticed the difference. Great day hen slayer!!!
🤦♂️
It’s amazing how calling/ hunting styles are from location to location across the country.
Ive never thought about that before!
When it’s snowing, we use less decoys and put the ones we are using on a jerk string. Saves a lot of walking to dust the snow off.
No matter what, that was a beautiful hunt. The snow big groups. You don't always have to shoot a limit to have a good time🎉 Hunter needs to slow down a little bit. He's rushing his shots I think. Good to see you guys hunting together again. Boys getting big fast now. You're starting to make me feel old watching your videos seeing these kids grow up
Thanks for the comment. Much agreed
Great content. I love hunting whistling wings in the snow. Super jealous.
Love snow hunts!
Keep a small broom with ya on snow days and sweep water over the decoy
No worries on the hens. As long as you stay within the limit, they all look the same in the skillet!😁👍
👍
Beautiful hunt. Thanks for doing these videos - great work.
Thanks for watching!
One to remember!!!!! Love the videos!!
We need to hunt together more often!
Nice hunt. Hunter a good kid.
Yes he is !
Absolutley awesome!!!
Thanks!!
Great video FDH just a tip on no wind and snowy days a pulsator comes in handy just to make some action and ripples in the setup but nice video...
Good tip!
Cool hunt 👍🦆
It just clicked in my head that Hunter is a kid I had seen on a local group, Jason was posting him working on some of his own taxidermy stuff! Pretty cool! I never made that connection
Yep, that's him. Good to see you comment Drake.
Where all the magpie's bird's go remember
Use antifreeze on your decoys. The snows melts right off as it hits. We do that for full bodys in the field
Apply it with some sort of spray gun/bottle when you put them out
interesting idea! So just put it in a spray bottle, carry it with you and apply before setting them out?

My dad uses a round up sprayer, works perfect
From the great northwest public duck Blind, Very nice hunt you can't beat that weather, Those ducks are hard to ID in that condition. Myself I picked up a couple Hens, Then I shot a nice green head that went over on its back. I can see from a distance it's got a belly like a Hen. I thought oh no. But no that's exactly what it was A hen belly design on a mallard Drake. I guess I gotta get new decoys. OK God bless from the great Northwest. Where we see some strange birds?
good stuff!
Great content as always. What size of shot do your prefer this time of year. i tend to heavier later in season due to the density of the ducks feathers.
I am using federal 3's. My shots are almost always inside 30 yards so id be okay using 4's as well.
Gotta start bringing that game winner jerk rig out with you just incase
I had it, just forgot the anchor
The kid sounds good on the call ! But he stops as soon as they come by ! He should keep calling .
Hunting water in the snow is fun but man , it really hurt ya at the same time. Any snow accumulated on the decoys and they are not coming in to land
Agree 💯 that made this hunt very difficult
No ducks in illinois unfortunately
New gun?
Weatherby 18i
You shot a triple.
There's two shots there. When I slow it down it looks like the second shot killed the duck. I think Hunters shot it.
@@FreelanceDuckHunting Ah. I didn’t catch the second shot. I just saw the feather cloud after your shot at the bird that went off screen to the left.
My favorite kind of hunt
RV antifreeze in a weed sprayer
Weird to shoot a couple ducks then kill the mood because they’re both hens… it’s hunting.
We all have our own thoughts and goals. For me is disappointing to have a flock in and shoot hens. There’s no right or wrong . Just different people who do what they do.
I respect that man. The video looked great btw.
@@ducks_n_discs9143 thank you
Saw one of your solo hunts and thought you were in California, obviously not since we don't snow storm hunt. So where are you?? Great hunt by the way!
