Seaside Plantain - Plantago maritima
AKA Sea Plantain and Goose Tongue or Goosetongue, Coastal Plantain, Plantain by the Sea
Seaside plantain is an edible wild plant that can be found along the coasts or North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. It looks a lot like narrow leaf plantain, but it has leaves that are succulent. It is also a medicinal plant and has been used to relieve constipation. Sea plantain is a native wild plant and can be found near the ocean here in North America, and it can be eaten raw or cooked and has a slight salty flavour. You can forage for seaside plantain, or goosetongue, on the coast of BC. This video was filmed while foraging in Nova Scotia.
Please consume wild plants at your own risk! Consult multiple reliable sources before consuming any wild plants! This video is for information and entertainment only!

Looks like a great spot that you are at. Are you in the States in this video?
I was actually in Nova Scotia in Canada.
I have three types of plantain that grow in my sandy soil. Lanceolata,, Major and a yet to be identified one that looks closer to Maritima, but there's not as many leaves. It's a smaller variety and has a blueish green tint and it has very fine hairs which gives it a fuzzy texture. It's also a very dry one that has all the identifiers of Plantago and tastes the same only slightly milder.
Nice! We've got two here in the yard, major and lanceolata. I'm happy to have those two!
I’ll have to keep my eye out for some seaside plantain when I’m in Nova Scotia!
Good luck and have fun!
Than you!
You're welcome! Thank you, too!
