I don't know how I feel about Kayla cutting down to 135, she fights at 55. That seems a bit rough.
Dana desperate to fatten up this car with big name fighters. But on the good side, you know they must've paid Kayla a ton of money to jump ship and take a sorta last minute fight.
In in-cage weight last couple fights was around 170lbs. It will be a miracle if she can make 135lbs.

If she can actually make 135 consistently and perform close to her best, this is a great addition to the bantamweight division which was looking kinda flat and boring after the Nunes retirement. If Nunes also comes back for a couple fights like she is hinting, there are some solid fights between Nunes, Harrison and Pena.
If Cyborg couldn't make 135, then Kayla - who's even bigger than Cyborg - is even less likely to be able realistically make the cut herself. Kayla's on record talking about how punishing and difficult it was for her to make like 140- 145 for her Invicta fight that one time. 135 might not be reasonably possible for her to make-certainly not in time for UFC 300.

@@JosephHandibode 100% this is a response to the PFL taking Francis. But it creates the same problem, who at the UFC can give Kayla a challenge? The PFL at least has Cyborg and Pacheco.

I think the buzz for Kayla went away after her loss. Not to say she can't come back but it was a big hit .
I wouldn't say it went away completely. It wasn't like with Ronda, she took the loss like a champ, rallied and wanted a rematch asap. What really hurt her was her doctor prohibiting her from joining the 145 tournament after PFL cut the 155 division. So she stopped fighting 4 times a year.
BC, Holly is a HOF, champ & legend but she's about a decade older than Kayla & almost a decade over LT's stat lol she's 42 & Kayla's 33. Holly lost the fight to mother time a long time ago, she's done. U just saw how Mayra performed over the weekend & that's the woman who beat Holly handily in her last fight. Let's call this what it is, padding Kayla's record with the older recognisable names before they retire. GDR (39) or Tate (37) are probably next, unless Kayla gets a title shot against Raquel or Pena, also part of the old guard. Damn! women's BW is old. Like the move though, welcome Kayla.
I guess we're using the term legend very loosely. She's 8-6 in the UFC (8-7 until her last fight was changed to a NC) with zero title defenses and a very unappealing fight style. Her fights outside of Ronda and Tate are extremely forgettable.

Can you imagine how shitty Raquel Pennington is feeling? Knowing that her first defense may be against Harrison, someone that will just destroy her on the ground. And Pena! She's probably feeling a little sick to her stomach. Even if she gets her shot at Rocky, she'll lose in her first defense.
No, I think Peña is _genuinely_ delusional enough to 100% believe that she would beat Kayla without much issue. Furthermore, I find it more than likely that Peña lacks the degree of objectivity (regarding the matchup and her own capabilities) that would be required to actually be afraid of or hesitant about facing Kayla in any meaningful capacity.

This is a massive L for Kayla. She's going from being a queen at PFL fighting the queen Bellator to having to cut 20 goddamn pounds below her ideal fighting weight for the UFC. I am really interested to know what the BTS situation was like in the PFL office.

The amount of hoops you had to jump for this push back on the Holme fight reaction answers itself. Both fighters are coming off stretches that are not glamorous. Oh and I like violence male or female but this fight does nothing for me. Before the loss and with the intrigue of fighting Nunes I was on board with Harrison coming over. But she comes over in a very hard weight class for her to make off a loss, lay off and a win versus Ladd. Holly we all ready her current history

I love me some Kayla and should be excited for her ufc debut but…. I have extreme skepticism she can get down to 135 at all let alone cut down and still be the same effective dominant fighter. Kayla is a beast and such a good person but that weight cut almost killed cyborg and Kayla is even bigger.
Outside of hardcore MMA fans its not WTF wow! its who TF? wow Holm is still fighting? Holm is there to say this card is a card with X amount of former champions. Kayla will miss weight, gas out and UFC will have messed up a potential star for UFC. Let her fight at FW and she can talk so let her run that division and try legitamise it than kill her potential and make her look awful at 135.
Exactly. Like you noted, outside of hardcore fans no one even knows who Kayla is. And within the hardcore fan base, it’s not like she’s some big star. She’s not even an exciting fighter really, she’s a wrestler.
