People probably don't realize or have forgotten that King Haakon of Norway was Queen Elizabeth's great-uncle. (Haakon's wife, Queen Maud, was the daughter of Edward VII of the UK.) They're family (in more ways than one).
King Haakon's birthname was Carl. Prince Carl of Denmark. In English the name Carl is often translated into Charles, so in the British royal family he was known as uncle Charles. The current King Charles was actually named after him.
