Their last song (for allmost 40 years, until 2021!) Hauntingly beautiful original song. Great arrangement. One of my (many) favorites

I originally assumed that this was her looking back from an improved relationship, but that jars with the dark dramatic tones of the song. Others have suggested that it could be looking back from deteriorated circumstances or even having been murdered! I now see no problem in accepting either interpretation and thank ABBA for creating the ambiguity in such a beautiful song.😂

Let me share another view, as I believe the video is super important. It's a break-up song, sung at the end of this relationship. But instead of lamenting, it's a tribute to this relationship which made the story teller so alive. And the bit where Agnetha is singing among the rest of the band makes me believe that she is addressing her partner Björn of course, but also the entire band: Abba is the process of breaking up but still, it gave her so much... A fantastic farewell song for a band if you ask me, so original (again, that video!), so intense, moving, bitter-sweet, poetic. I'm super impressed!

One of their best hands down. You should do a live video next and may I suggest a double version which is Does Your Mother Know/ Hole In Your Soul Live at Wembley. It is a must see and the two together will blow your mind, the transition is amazing.

    how are You?
so glad to see you very well
    "The day before you came"
It was the last ABBA song recorded
    (until the new album "Voyage")
although it was not the last single
(it was the next, "Under Attack")
It was one of the last three that barely entered the Top 30 in the UK, a low expectation for what ABBA was used to.
It is said to have been recorded in a dark and damp room, to make it more gloomy and to help Agnetha interpret
It's a fiction story, a cryptic lyrics by the guitarist Björn and a dark music by Benny synths
    I will be honest
of all Their singles this wich I like the least
(for me is good, but not much more, 6/7pts)
Agnetha's vocal performance is the best, but She is very lonely without a classic ABBA chorus and instrumentation
The video is also strange, but it is well achieved,
in relation to the story that the lyrics tell
again Agnetha looks alone, now as an actress,
the rest of the members of ABBA appear only at the end and disaggregated
I understand that a lot of fans like it, it is even well ranked in the votes for the best ABBA song
(it's #3 for British fans, only behind the #1 "The winner takes it all" and the #2 "Dancing Queen")
I also know that is part of research and musical experimentation of the last years of ABBA
But this song is not the style of music that I like, and Agnetha remains as a soloist
That is why I prefer their other songs before,
where the four members most involved are,
in addition to other musical genres
For example, I prefer the ABBA singles
Ring Ring, So long, I do I do I do I do I do,
Head over heels and Under Attack,
their others singles that wasn't Top10 in UK in their time between 1973/1982
    Thanks for your great reaction
I hope to see you soon in the next
GOD bless you and stay safe
    best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America

This was a truly fine record which sadly didn't chart very well here in the U.K.
It marked the end of the road for the group......'Under Attack' was their final hit.

Thank you for reading my suggestion and for another great reaction to this special ABBA-song. I guess others among the comments can tell you more about the meaning of this song but I dont think you should overanalyze the text, just enjoy another superb popsong :)
The Day Before You Came is among my top 5 songs with ABBA i think. I have read that Benny and Björn told Agnetha to not sing as good as she used to do on this track but thats of course impossible to our swedish angel :) Excuse my bad english but thanks for another nice ABBA-reaction. Some other suggestions --> Slipping through my fingers or Super Trouper

@@terrykemp1876 Thank you. When you don´t use english so often you forget a lot but it´s better to write something anyway I think and its good practice :)

He wanted her to sing it as an ordinary woman might rather than someone with amazing vocal range and talent like Agnetha as the lyrics are purposefully mundane.
I think that is what you meant in your comment but nuance is difficult when a language you are speaking isn't your first language.
The lyrics and video are also quite ambiguous, perhaps it was an affair and the man was married.

GREAT song! Sorry, I could not watch it all the way through....the swaying head and "mmmmmm" comments after each line, became too annoying. Please calm down, so we can try to enjoy your reviews. Sorry, but I had to comment... hopefully it will help you in the future.

Yes, I agree. It was irritating and became as if it were a "false praise". Too over-the-top at every line sung. I love this song but not his false praise.
