The whole place is now a mess but OK for charity shops and Turkish barbers
What do you think happened to the town?
@@WalkInBritain corruption from the council, they spent a million on a multicoloured piece of metal ("bench") and wasted more money on contracting everything out to companies. There's a lot that I assume is also happening in a lot of places in the uk but rampant corruption is definitely a cause for the decline. No one can be this incompetent and still reap benefits.
Sorry to hear that!
Bad memories for me but I'm kind of glad it's a pathetic excuse of existence - riversley park a beautiful place in contrast ❤
1st of march be there 🇬🇧🏴
@@CFC-i1j what is on the 1st of March there?

still cant believe they got rid of the fountain. i grew up in nuneaton and i loved when summer came around and theyd turn the fountain on and all us kids would go in the water to cool off and wed sit around it eating our ice creams
:(
My hometown, George Eliot figures somewhere in our family tree. Though I no longer live there, and it's changed beyond all recognition in the twenty-one years since I left, I don't have as much of a downer on the town as this guy has when I visit! And, where was the footage of Riversley Park?
That is really touching :( Sorry for the lack of the footage.
It;s not changed beyond recognition. The fountain in the Market Square's been removed, Wilkos on Church Street closed down, the Queens Arcade was demolished and the Rope Walk put up, the Co-op's been demolished but the frontage on Queens Road and Abbey Street are still there - what's so much changed beyond recognition? You can stand in the Market Place and still realise this is Nuneaton, including that cheap H Samuels on the corner.
Loved the way the story teller put his view across without necessarily totally agreeing with it. Three minutes of footage shown several times does Nuneaton no justice whatsoever. Agreed that like so much of the UK now that it is a shadow of it's former self but Nuneaton has far more to offer than this "Sunday??" footage of the town centre. Would have looked totally different during the week and especially on a Wednesday or a Saturday which are market days.
Im going there on Sat from london..I hope its nice
Hopefully you will like it 👍🏻
@@WalkInBritain I think I will like the surrounding green areas, maybe not the town it self
Please tell us about your experience !
Its a shithole mate lol
How depressing
Not as depressed as narrated in the video :)

It's not called Queens Street I think you meant to put Queens Road
Yeah I can't lie Nuneaton is shit.
@@_zk_ sorry about that
Guess you filmed this on a Sunday when most thing are closed so as you could portray a deserted negative aspect. Nuneaton isn't what it used to be for sure as a result of long time Labour council, although the conservatives were no better when they got in. You used to be able to say Labour could put a monkey up for election and they would get in. Visit on a market day, when the council allow it to operate if the wind aint blowin, and it will be bustling. Like many other towns, pubs are closing and rental costs contribute to shops closing. Used to have great nights out, even mid week, in numerous pubs, hardly any left now like so many other places. Nuneaton is no different to Stratford on playing on its famous person, and why not. Nuneaton & Bedworth are hard done by compared to Stratford, Leamington & Warwick as even in Warwickshire there is a North/South divide, as any resident will tell you.
Nuneaton street plan was originally created by a school kid
Seems very interesting!
Cobblers. Like most British towns it developed organically. As late as WW2, the main street of Nuneaton was Abbey Street, from where it meets Newdigate Street up to Abbey Green.
Is it so the vagrants can get bigger sleeping bags between the sidewalks ?
