Arcadia High School Apache Marching Band performing their musical selection entitled March Grandioso by Roland F. Seitz at the Placentia Band Review on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
Results: Class A
93.20 - 2nd place Band
86.75 - 4th place Auxiliary

Still going strong after all these years. They were great in the 70's too, just keeping up the spirit and great work. The Drum Major is the bomb! Great job everyone! Arcadia rocks!

More like drum majorette. I really detest that whole baton twirling nonsense. It adds nothing to the performance of the band. They exist ONLY because the band picks up a few competition points for having someone twirl. One if the dumbest rules for band competition. Arcadia has had an award winning band since its inception including trips to a presidential inauguration and the Rose Parade all with a traditional drum major. It is the music and the marching. The baton twirler adds nothing.
@@wilhard45 discrediting the work and commitment that these students put into their craft isn't a good look.

Good performance, marching needs practice, too much bounce, not enough glide. Diagonals, secondary diagonals guide center. Dig in your heels! I agree with the comment about dynamics. I performed this march in 1974 (gasp) with West High, and we earned the Music Award (High Music Score of the Event) almost every time we competed that year, and in our early rehearsals, often our Band Director - Ronald Large, would stop us before we played the second measure of the intro. Also know, that Former Arcadia Band Director - Ron Hoar (R.I.P.) was a clinician with our band before the start of this and the next school years. After that, I was at Arcadia, Class of '78.

Let's not get too carried away. It was a good first performance with lots of room for improvement. Agree with Gorman..., you. can't be timid with this march but you can't allow it to take control. Great first note. Bass line pushed the tempo better than DB and RK. Dynamic changes need more. As your confidence grows, the sound quality will improve. The good news is that the fixes aren't out of reach. AHS, RKHS, and DBHS are very close to one another. Keep working.
What really frosts me is all the people standing with their hands in their pockets. Clap you dullards!
In my opinion, when people clap during a performance it ruins it. When you are trying to listen to a band play and all you hear is clapping and cheering, it kinda ruins it and gets really annoying. However, that is just my opinion.
AS A FORMER BAND DIRECTOR RETIRED: THIS BAND KICKS BUTT! ESP.MUSICALLY...No one but a band person would watch the feet anyway when hearing this band.
There are some performances that are meticulously detailed and precise. There are some that are just a load of fun to watch and listen to. This performance was both. AMAZING JOB ARCADIA!!

Tears flowing, so stirring. Remembering playing this in the 1972 Rose Parade with Ben Davis High School Marching Giants. Great job, band!

All music elements really are perfect. You're unbelievable hard-ass work paid off. You've always had a sharp band. Congrats from. Second trumpet Marching Seminoles, Sanford fl. Went into usaf from hs. Tough job but someone's gotta do it. Impressive! Your marching skill is are sterling.

A proud Apache, Alumni, and a West High Warrior band member 1974/75, we beat Arcadia with March Grandioso in 1974 many times with a high music score, including Sweepstakes Music Award at the 1974 El Primero Band Review in Santa Monica, which earned us with our First Entrance in the 1975 Tournament Of Roses Parade. I'm so blessed to have been a part of the two best High School Music Programs in the Country!

Frank Columbo the 7 sweepstakes Arcadia received was for the field show.
Sorry for not being clear. My friends told me they got the sweepstakes, but did not specify which sweeps they got.
This was a nice performance but not great. The dynamics were good, however the Trumpets were pinched and not full. Listen to the University of Texas Band and Allen and observe the importance of the Trumpet sections having a full sound. Improvement of the Trumpet section would make this a very strong and difficult Band to beat. This March requires a large sound to carry it off. You need to have a sound that dominates the street. Good Trombones and Winds. Trumpets were the big problem. As a Texan I hear this march often(unofficial state march).
How is that an a band? Looks more like atleast 2a or 3a.
For this event, Class A is the highest division. There were a total of 6 divisions - Class MS (for middle schools), Class E, D, C, B, and A.
