    Where I am in Scotland there are more oil than gas boilers even now in 2020 when the whole town has natural gas mains fitted - people are still fitting brand new oil boilers even though there's piped gas (which I've just discovered is more convenient). I've just moved into a house with natural gas and it's a novelty not having to arrange for a tanker every 3-4 months to fill up oil or a Calor tank that takes up half the garden. The Grants are very good machines - very reliable and simple. Having said that we have a 20-year-old Baxi condenser in the "new" house and I'm surprised that my jaw didn't end up in the basement as I never expected a condenser to last that long. Apparently this ancient boiler is more reliable than the brand new Worcester fitted across the street that's had service vans pull up with alarming regularity. I miss the smell of kerosene exhaust though haha

      Can't understand people choosing Calor gas over oil bearing in mind it's the most expensive fuel available.
      May be just prejudice against oil, forgetting that it's been fully automatic for six decades now and doesn't smell at all inside the house (or outside unless you sniff the flue haha).

    No problem Allen, i'll send it anything big or unusual i come across. This was a Babcock Ygnis with a Nuway dual stage oil burner. Wasn't set quite right so you can see how sooted oil can get. Especially on something this big. Thanks for the shout out too

      Years ago I used to do a "bank" of 4 Allen&Ygnis boilers that looked the same as this one, the factory is long gone now so I expect they went for scrap..............

      I will do a oil fired living room fire when I next go there. It has a Christmas tree baffle inside and a aga type controller on the side. It has a pot burner.

    When I was a kid we had a Trianco gravity fed coal boiler. Terrible thing that was in danger of gassing you and kept going out. Some sort of problem with the height of the flu in relation to the height of the roof. Kicked out some heat when it did work though. I still have the scald scar on my arm to remind me 50 years later. Was removed and a gas one put in.

      My neighbour is the local coal merchant. They still have a gravity fed coal boiler

    • @Martindyna
      @Martindyna Рік тому

      Trianco made good boilers that were built to last. Can't blame the boiler for faulty installation of the flue. I think most if not all of them were fan assisted.

    That last burner is an afterburner from an old F16 👍

    Can you adjust dhw temperature on these grant vortex combi boiler?
    Also, can you turn off the preheat? Our water is scolding hot and I'd like to turn it down also so we don't use as much oil.

    Hi Allen. Been looking at lpg and oil on our renovation project. Is a 15mm 4 bar mains water supply sufficient for theses boilers, seems to be some thought that a 22mm is better?. We have a downstairs shower/sink and upstairs bathroom and kitchen all within 5 meters distance, upstairs radiators on 3 beds and downstairs will be water ufh. I wonder whether the grant external kombi would be man enough for the job or whether the standard boiler and unvented tank would be the way to go. Unfortunately no mains gas were we are :-(

    The combustion should be checked with the cover on before making an adjustment

    • @rognevs5695
      @rognevs5695 4 роки тому +3

      I sure did, it was under aired hence me adjusting, then double checked again with cover on, raised another 0.2 percent,
      Worth noting that on this model the condense tube can split on the back giving you a short cycle situation. This will show up with cover on. Cheers

    I see there is a shed next to the boiler fairly close to the boiler and he managed fine as the main component was taken out of the casing to work on. Would it still be possible to do a service on this boiler if the gap was just 22"? I am having a conservatory built and it can`t be moved over really. Thanks for your help and great video!

    Grants are bomb proof almost. I am having a new one fitted after 26 years of abuse. I will probably fit the thing myself and get someone with a Testo to service it and cast a beady eye. I am capable of most plumbing and heating tasks and fitted my old one. Any tips?

    • @pipedgolf4634
      @pipedgolf4634 3 роки тому +1

      Make sure it is level, make sure the condensate drain has a fall away from the boiler, not much different to a standard one, just get it commissioned as soon as you put it in for warranty and to get it set

    I didnt know the green oil lines had to be changed every two years I thought they were longlife un like the metal flexibles.

      It’s advised that green bio fuel lines get changed every 2nd and braided every year I’m lead to believe, then the rules I work too anyway

    • @CatholicAventures

      According to the oftec technical book 2 4.4.2, flexible oil pipes should be inspected during every service visit and in the interest of safety, changes at regular intervals. There are varying types of oil pipe available with guarantee periods between 1 and 5 years.
      Green tend to be long life. Between 2-5 years depending on manufacturer
