This is my favourite Monkees song and when I saw the Mike and Micky Show in Toronto it blew my mind to see it live. Mike's voice was amazing and perfect!
Aww haw, ain't that fine work done just beautifully on the double-neck - Mister Christian Nez !! What a cool performance. These are lucky folks in the band with some great repertory for a Pleasant Valley of Sundays. Mickey and Mike - live forEVER and play all night. Your fans will always love it.
This brings me right back to my high school days of the late eighties---I'd take the bus home with a different Monkees album each day, and PISCES was my favourite. Riding home on some gloriously sunny day in late Spring or early Autumn with the lyrically enchanting "The Door Into Summer" was always a treat. REST IN POWER, Papa Nez.
I adore these guys and though they were a part of my childhood as well, I have come to really understand where they are at with their messages within their tunes!!! "Shades of Gray" is probably my most favorite, although it is almost impossible to choose one tune above the others!! RIP DAVY, NEZ AND PETER!! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED, BUT THANK GOD WE HAVE YOUR LEGENDARY MUSIC TO SUSTAIN US........
I have a few thoughts here: interesting how both Micky and Davy were slightly heavier on percussion, in their early Monkees wave. Also, perhaps it was Davy who kept the "Mike participation" from the band. Or, Nez dropped other former priorities, after Jones' passing. This live version is very fine. Would have been nice to have seen all 4 do this live.
Mike was my favorite when I was a kid, but they were all cool. Couldn't wait to get this album Door into summer was great . Please nothing about studio musicians. After 50 some years it's finally known that every hit had studio musicians.

I love this song. It's on my favorite Monkee songs list. It reminds me of a 70's group, I think maybe America, or another 70's sound. It's very familiar.
This song has so much feeling to it as do so many Monkees songs , they most certainly had a way of creating a feeling of longing for the passion of life unlike any other band . The same songs performed by the artists that wrote them could never bring to them the heart and soul they so magically cast on so many of their songs, like Daily Nightly , What am i doin hanging round ' " She'," you just may be the one 'Saturdays child ' pleasant valley sunday 'Sometime in the morning " and most recently ' me and magdalena

Since Peter Tork doesn't appear in the show I presume he left the band. Mickey Dolenz and Miike Nesmith want to keep riding the wave of nostalgia for a much simpler time of our lives. Regarding this song, I feel the writers should have included a third verse to complete the first two. It has a defect of being too short. Regards

Are you people on drugs. This is my favorite song OF ALL TIME! Nesmith was and is my inspiration to play guitar and write songs. He is delivering a vocal that is sometimes flat and his meter is waaaayyy off. He is delivering the song like he don't care. Yes I know he is old and can't remember lyrics and yes I will still enjoy this Nesmith vs no Nesmith at all. For god's sake Mike at least try to make the lyrics fall where they are supposed to go. Stop reciting the lyrics , your not Jim Morrison! The band rocks hard, the backup vocals by Micky and his sister are sublime but Christian's personal Yoko is superfluous and really a bland vocalist and her stage motions are herky jerky and embarrassing.
I was there for this sound check and show. I believe that it was after this show that Michael had to have heart surgery, and he was really flagging here.
