Jay, I'm glad to see that 4 days after my comment (pasted below) you have done a class on the term Sanathan Dharm. A person like you has the ability to influence lecture halls and online audiences, who then go on to influence the world. In my humble opinion, you should steer the etymology of the descriptive for an entire peoples to its original form ... Sanathan Dharm, or Vedic, not Hindu. How tragic that a gigantic culture, in more sense than one, doesn't even call itself by its own name, but by one given to it by outsiders ignorant of the vastness of the philosophy of such peoples.
The connection to their heritage - Ved, Dharm - has been broken and fragmented.
Western and English language media today has a powerful anti India bias. The word Hindu in many quarters, including my home California, is often used as a pejorative - "Hindu mobs" as an example - to denote an unruly, uneducated peoples who break things and beat up people. Yet many such Californians or outsiders are captivated by the teachings of Paramahans Yoganand , Swami Vivekanand, or any such conduits of knowledge to Dharm, to a pristine philosophy of thought.
It is time for Vedic people of the Sanathan Dharm to self identify with their origin, not with a colonial past. I doubt CNN, Washington Post, Guardian, BBC, New York Times and their ilk will look towards Bharat Varsh from their illicitly funded enterprises, and say Dharmic/Vedic mobs .Beyond this , a person should be able to connect with their past just from the very name they use to identify who they are. Then they should make the effort to understand their philosophy... Vedic, Sanathan, Dharmic, Advaita, Dvaita and the cornucopia of beauty which you so eloquently bring to eager minds.

Thanks for your comments, Agree that name Sanatan Dharm is not widely used, and name Hindu has become a norm, anyway most Hindus don't mind it, it is the principles and practice that is more important, when majority Hindus become aware of their own wonderful tradition, one day they may change this situation, till then we carry on with what we have.

Its my immense pleasure to write to you and submit my feedback. I keep watching your video and Mr Rajiv Malhotra's, too.
(i) One thing I have noticed, when media, journos and others ask about "Caste System/Varna System", I found you both are got in their trap and becomes speechless and reason-less.
Sir, Varna system appeared once and first time in Purush Sukta in Rig Veda. According to various scholars, like John Muir and others have come to a conclusion that "Purush Sukta" was added later in Rig Veda to justify "Varna System" which was absent in Original Rig Veda. It is clear that Purush Sukta was added with some ill motives by Brahmin and other dominant varnas.
Hence, why don't you and other hindu scholars simply reject "varna system" or so called "caste system" that it was not present in original Rig Veda and it was added with ill motives of Brahmin and other dominant varnas. But what I see you all start justifying it by giving so much logical examples and rationalize it.
(ii) Even In Bhagwat Gita, Sri Krishna, Himself has justified Varna System which is also purposeful misdeeds of Brahmin and other upper varna. Simple, Sri Krishna, We Call Him God, Can not tell like such disgusting thing i.e. Varna System. If He, Sri Krishna, has told like this, He does not qualify to be God, God Must see all and does not put choices like Brahmin and so forth.
Hence, why don't you and other hindu scholars simply reject "varna system" or so called "caste system" present in Bhagwat Gita and it was added with ill motives of Brahmin and other dominant varnas. But what I see you all start justifying it by giving so much logical examples and rationalize it.
(iii) It is better to reject and nullify rather than justifying it that bla bla.
(iv) Many Hindu like Me who practice Hinduism besides being born in Dalit Caste feel "bad" and "like leaving Hinduism" because You all start justifying that it was based on this, that bla bla.
(v) All Religions and Societies have some Merits and Demerits. Instead of justifying "demerits" better to Accept it as Demerits, that "It is horrible and it was incorporated with illwill and greeds of "Brahmin and others" This is right Choice to exercise to "accept demerits and move on" rather than "justifying it"

Well our culture was that much knowledgeable enough to able to justify every decision they made throughout life. And the word you are using "caste" is and was never been in sanatan dharm. Talking about varna it is simply a category of humans according to their abilities, knowledge and behaviour.
Their are two words " jaati " and
" varna", jaati simply means the orientation by which every human being has the same jaati which is human.
Varna whereas has 4 subparts - sudra -> vaishya -> kshatriya -> brahmin.
And for your kind info. They are not castes but varna which doesn't mean caste ( britishers named it caste because they were illiterate of our Culture). The varna is decided by the person's abilities,knowledge,and behaviour in society.
So, a Sudra will be someone with lowest knowledge and abilities which are of labourers, workers or artisants. (Don't take it personally wait till end)
A vaishya will be an agricultural person or farmer or trader.
A kshatriya will be a warrior, leader, administrator or kings (as we all conclude).
And a brahmin is an intellectual, a priest or a teacher.
By this varna is characterised, saying it again not a caste system.
Now lets talk about is only a dalit will be a sudra and lower castes are the only one in sudra and vaishya varna?? Clear answer No Never.
Irrespective of in which family you are born you can always elevate your varna by improving and gaining knowledge, by which you can never be in a same varna till you gain qualities above that. (SO IF YOU ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HAVE QUALITIES OF BEING A LEADER OR LECTURER/PRIEST YOU CAN BE EITHER KSHATRIYA BY VARNA SYSTEM OR A BRAHMIN AND YOUR NEXT GENERATION WILL BE BORN IN THAT CATEGORY TOO BUT THEY HAVE TO ELEVATE OTHERWISE THEY WILL REMAIN IN SUDRA OR VAISHYA STATE, n i see you knowledgeable enough to not call you dalit or categorise u as an untouchable you might be even greater than me in terms of varna system ).
In simple words every new born till the age he or she is literate enough will be a sudra if doesn't improvise will be in same state.
NOW ex- shri Ram guru "vishwamitra" was a kshatriya but became a brahmin, " ravan "was half brahmin and half raksash but became kshatriya, king ashoka was a sudra( even tho was a born kshatriya but none knew even himself except few) but became one of the biggest kshatriya king of or history with help of chadhakya, "vishwamitra" son (i forgot) was a sudra because he never elevated, etc etc there were many.
Even in" manusmriti " the punishment for any crime is given in this way-
Suppose i stole something (thief ) then, if i were a sudra -id get( lets assume ) 1 month jail,
If i were a vaishya- id get jail of 3 months,
If i were a kshatriya- id be punished with 6 months of jail,
And if i were a brahmin- id be punishedfor 12 months or more period of jail.
" Simply, the more vidwaan you are the more hard life you have to live and punishment for any crime would be more fierce. " but our manusmriti was shamed when some stupid English scholar published fake thing about it (definitely because he had no knowledge of our culture)and distributed in the world. Don't ever read and see our culture with western lenses bro you will always be misinterpret our culture.
Lets move on-
So before colonisers actually and fully came to India there was fortunately an english scholar who did a detailed research in which he found out that in india there are min of 1 gurukul in every village and in big cities usually in every colony.
What amazing way more was the major population in those gurujuls were of sudra category and then vaisya and then brahmin .. kshatriya were less because becaue of them being well of financially they could get homeschooling. What more striking you will know is that there were muslims too. Out 10000 muslim kids approx 2000 were muslim girls. There in south i guess in hyderabad still at one place munro statue is present. (Check internet about detailed research )
The main problem started after british colonisers came to india the first thing told us was we were illiterate and our culture is filthy, they knew our culture is far more than they can comprehend so started giving fear shame to our people and spreading their ideology (which is bullshit) their views and their agendas to how to divide and rule this country in which they succeeded.
I will simply say take out that western lenses and read and research by your own and then come to conclusion.
A simple answer to your questions ..
The cast system was divided based on the jobs people use to do in old days . Later people who were rich and had influence in the ruling community and temples gave it a new meaning and also added the same into the Hindu scriptures !

Why are people writing an age for Sanatan Dharma? Sanatam mean eternal (no start and no end). It was always there. If you really want the age then it is Trillions of years old. It survived multiple big bangs.

How advanced the human race is described in Ramayana and Mahabharata donot matches any timeline in the history and archeologists and other experts say it may have happened during 1000-5000 BC,as all experts vary but as there is mention of city of gold that is lanka but with history as we know people didn't found gold at that time and just all things contradict.

Vedic culture entered India around 1600BC (FACT). Hinduism existed long before vedic or sanskrit influence. Mr. Lakhani will never admit this. :) The truth will do a lot more for humanity than what Lakhani postulates.

The date Mr. Lakhani is talking about is in reference to archaeological findings at Mohenjo Daro, the "indus culture" as there are no much older finds, one must exert that there is no other evidence dating to approx. 5000 years back...unless new evidence supports such ideas! I am myself convinced that there has been much, much older cultures with very high levels of knowledge and skills, but philosophies, belief and thoughts are not science cause there is no evidence to support such belief!
