We went to a Camping World one time. You noticed I said 1 time. The experience was not good. They basically wanted your “first born” to look at the RVs.

If there's a more insane thought than the prospect of trusting a dealer to deliver a new trouble-free RV to your door after you purchased it online, it's participating in that concept from a Camping World dealership. Not in a million years, maybe 2 million actually. Heck it's not even prudent to buy a new RV at a dealership nowadays without paying an independent 3rd party inspection service before handing over the money.
Things aren’t getting better for campsites in the NE. Not only is it nearly impossible to get a site but the prices are thru the roof. Lake George NY had sites going for between $109 to $175 per night for full hookups. Camping is becoming unaffordable for us regular folks.

Yeah thanks to covid when everybody sold their hoises for RVs, just another way to take advantage of a crisis. Realistically RV sites should NOT be more than $60 a night including electric

Thanks for all your reports. We avoid KOA. It’s not just the price, but the feeling that I’m just in a parking lot with a bit of grass in between RV’s. So no to the new larger sites. We are more likely to boondock & our latest RV is a 32 year old Leisure Travel van that we have completely upgraded to function without hookups including solar, dc to dc charger, lithium ion battery and dc fridge.
I wouldn’t pay for a premium site unless I absolutely had to. We are full time and if I want a big site, I’ll go boondock somewhere. I don’t mind the tight RV spaces since we’re not in an RV park for the park, we’re there for the location around or near the park, or stopping for a night on our way somewhere else. Another great option for larger, often more private sites is a State park. They usually don’t have sewer and often just electric, but the sites are much larger, usually somewhere green, cheaper and quieter. I could see paying the premium price for a big site that allows more than one rig or more than the normal number of people staying at them. I could see it also for those who don’t do this often and are there to enjoy the park itself.
what is needed is a rv bill of rights. I have heard of many new rvs that the heater, hot water, awnings etc are defective the first few weeks of ownership. The cost of these units should insure quality and we are not getting it.
From my experience, the problem with the RV industry are the Dealers. Most don’t know squat about the product they sell & service, even warranty work, is a pain in the posterior on several levels. Until manufacturers hold dealers accountable for the lack of customer service & crappy, if any, repair to the product, it’s not going to change.
The manufacturers are the beginning of the problem chain. They were whipping crappy workmanship and taking in the bucks figuring dealerships could handle any complaints and many might miss the warranty period. They were wrong since the supply chain couldn’t keep up with higher demand at both ends and other reasons as well.

Like when the dealer tells me “yep your solar isn’t working & we don’t know how to fix it, and they hard wire the lithium batteries to the chassis alternator… it goes in & on. And it’s not just me… same experience for others in the owners group I belong to.

Kids are now grown so we look more for a quiet, off grid experience. We still use KOA but only if we have to. The way rates are going, soon we wont be able to afford a KOA stay!
No. We would not pay extra for a larger site. We are full-time RVers and watch our budget. However, we do appreciate not seeing or smelling our neighbors sewer at our front door. Which has happened while camping in California!
The only way I would book a signature site is if it allowed 3-5 families to share the space. Like a small family/friends Reunion. Many parks offer Buddy sites where 2 rv can put the awnings facing each other and create shared space.
Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of a signature site, specifically that some RVers will pay extra to be located away from the crowded and noisy masses? Not that I’d ever book one, or even stay in a KOA campground. Sounds like hell on earth!😁

Just reading where these people picked up what they thought was an abandon baby elk. Put it in the car and brought it to the West Yellowstone police department. When asked what they did with it, they said when they took it out of the car it ran off into the forest. No word if they went looking for it.
I usually travel with 2 of my sisters, spouses and all our kids. It’s a big group. If they got regular sites and we split the cost of the larger site, I’d 100% consider it for sure!

The Everglades has a vulture issue also. There were signs in some of the parking lots warning they may attack your vehicle. They also had tarps you could borrow to cover your windows and wipers while visiting those area parking lots. Weird!
I guess either way, that bison was doomed. Bummer, the guy was trying to be a decent human being. It would be very difficult to ignore an animal in distress, if you have any conscience.

*If* we had a large number of family or friends camping at a KOA, I'd consider getting one of their large Glamping sites. For myself, wife and 2 kids...oh heck NO! We have a KOA stay this weekend and the campsite I booked is just a plain pull through with 35 amp svc, etc...I didn't bother to opt for the sites that have the firepit and patio that are a few spaces away
Regarding the KOA signature promotion- is this more about exclusivity than about having a bigger site? One thing that I love about camping is the class barrier is usually broken. You can have a single mom who works at Walmart camping near a CEO of a large company. And often their kids are playing Marco Polo together at the pool. If this “favorable site” becomes more popular we could start having an “us and them” camping area- the haves and the have nots. But again, I probably am not the clientele KOA is reaching out to in this- I’m more of a boondocker in a national forest person.
With all the animal rescue organizations out there, they probably could've placed the calf somewhere. This man has a heart and was trying to do something to save the calf. Not like the idiots who keep approaching bison to pet them or take a selfie.

We now have a quarantine facility so bison can go through the months-long testing protocols for brucellosis and, if negative, be used to start conservation herds elsewhere. However, the use of quarantine for a newborn calf that's abandoned and unable to care for itself is not a good candidate for quarantine. This is a conversation that's difficult to have on social media. But it's important to understand that national parks are very different than animal sanctuaries or zoos. We made the choice we did not because we are lazy, uncaring, or inexpert in our understanding of bison biology. We made the choice we did because national parks preserve natural processes. By this we mean undomesticated wildlife and the ecosystems they both depend on and contribute to. Every day in national parks, some animals die so that others may live. In fact, as many as 25% of the bison calves born this spring will die, but those deaths will benefit other animals by feeding everything from bears and wolves to birds and insects. Allowing this cycle of life to play out aligns most closely with the stewardship responsibility entrusted to us by the American people. Unfortunately, the calf's behavior on roads and around people was hazardous, so rangers had to intervene: but the calf’s body was left on the landscape. The answer to what's attracting the vultures to vehicles is probably the same thing that's caused rodent attraction to vehicles to skyrocket. My mechanic told me many rubber and plastic parts manufacturers have incorporated PEANUT OIL in their processes! This is a FAVORITE of rodents and it's causing all kinds of destruction. Feathered creatures love to eat seeds. Peanuts are actually seeds, not nuts. So, I strongly suspect that's what's now drawing the vultures to vehicles.
The guy who helped the calf up the bank should probably have been given a friendly explanation why he should not have done that (I could see myself doing the same thing even after this new info). The bimbette with the selfy on the other hand.... at least she gets to be the poster child with all the notoriety due her.
Quickly checked in Marcus Lemonis. He’s currently CEO of 4 companies including Camping World, and Gander RV. So he’s only part time for each of these companies, and making something like $20,000,000/year from them combined. Mind boggling how a part time employee could be worth that much, and yet be that focussed on any one company in particular.
We won’t give camping world a dime after going to the local dealership where we used to pay $5 to dump our tanks. Camping World bought them and when we went to dump they wouldn’t let us dump unless we bought a Good Sams membership. NOT ONE DIME As for the Good Samaritan getting screwed over for help the bison calf that’s BS.
No way would I pay KOA for an enlarged site. I actually avoid KOAs because I have found them, on average, more expensive and poorly maintained than numerous other campgrounds.
Camping World has a terrible rep with most of the people I've known who've gotten an rv there. Especially if you need warranty work. One CW kept their RV until it passed warranty on a repair and then refused to fix it because it was out of warranty. The manufacturer did a "good faith" complete repair much quicker than the 4 months it sat at CW. The manufacturers that are good, need to vet their sellers and punish when they pull nonsense like that. I got mine from a local deal after checking them out. CW put a higher MSRP on the same unit and had it on sale for a couple of thousand more than our dealer who had a lesser MRSP on it.... BUYER BEWARE.
Going to hold onto our 1966 Serro Scotty for as long as possible!! Have already owned it a number of years. Very low tech....which is what camping is all about.
I owned a Serro Scotty and sold it to a guy around 1987 or so. He was going to use it as a hunting shack on land he owned. I've occasionally wondered what happened to it. It was built like a tank. Incredibly solid and sturdy. I'm sure it is still around somewhere. It was solid as a rock. We couldn't fully stand up in it. The guy who bought it was probably 5'5" or 5'6". He looked right at home standing in it. I hope it brought him happiness.
In New Zealand, we have an even worse problem with our alpine parrot, the Kea, as it causes heaps of damage to vehicles, as well as other things. Look for vids using the words 'Kea bird car' and you'll see them in action.
In all fairness I know a few places here that just need to go out of business. Some of their reps don't listen and they're not very helpful and management does nothing to fix the issues.
I live in Evergaldes NP. There are signs EVERYWHERE that say "it is illegal to feed or disturb the wildlife, up to $5000 fine." Some yo yo drove a DRONE across an osprey nest and got caught (by my co. adn the NPS.) he got three great "take home prizes" 1. An INSTANT $500 fine. 2. A FREE RIDE all 38 miles POUT of the park. The ranger drove the guy's car, he sat in the back. 3. ONE YEAR BAN on entering ANY National APrk, ANYWHERE in the US or beyond. ANYWHERE. these peopel DO NOT PLAY...then again, they have NOTHING else to do!
Comment about KOAs. I prefer state and national parks to KOA because they give so much room! We were just at Pfeiffer Big Sur campgrounds and we loved it! Our local RV-only campgrounds are packed together like sardines. You feel like you are in a parking lot. If I could find a KOA with an environment similar to Pfeiffer Big Sur I would jump on it. There are times I do want hookups.
As to the Vultures and vehicles, showed what I believe to be a Ford pickup. Don't mean to start anything, however if I recall correctly "Found On Road Dead" comes to mind and they are Vultures?
Don't EVER buy a covid built trailer. Quality control and standard equipment were thrown out the window because the industry was pumping them out as fast as they could and the shortage of parts led to a lot of scaling down of standard items. Less windows. D/C fridges only and smaller. Smaller A/C units. Nothing but trouble if you buy one.
Its cause all these places are too damn greedy instead of trying to get new customers. I am looking to buy a used class and trade mine in and they won't come up 8k on my trade when they will still make probably $40k between the 2 RVs
Decided not to purchase anything camper or motorhome , used or new. After 2 years of researching and looking in person at the quality , production, warrantees and sales , this is one of the most horrible purchases a person could make. I ll leave it at there needs to be a serious oversight committee on the quality and safety of these overpriced death traps
Black vultures have a terrible sense of smell? I don’t know if they’re related to turkey vultures that we have down here in Texas when I buried my 15 year old dog the vultures were around, when I went out the next day there was one standing on his grave. That guy could smell him from 2 feet under the ground. I find that very hard to believe that Rey headed vultures any different

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...I'm exploring the idea of buying a used, probably late 90s, C class RV later this year and would like to attempt to live/travel in it for a year (all of 2024). I don't know much about what to look for to avoid getting stuck with a bad RV, so if there's some type of forum (not Facebook; never got into that) where I can ask questions and learn the ins and outs of buying/owning/fixing a RV I would appreciate it. I've tried watching several channels here on YT, but have not found any videos that cover specifically what I'm trying to learn...thanks.

Not a fan of KOAs overall, so no...definitely would not pay extra. KOA fees are expensive enough, and most of them cram in RVs like sardines. If we wanted that, we'd still be staying in hotels. The only exception: Bangor, ME, KOA. We stayed there fall 2021. Absolutely blew away every single one of the dozen+ KOAs we've stayed in. It is more park-like than others, and the genuinely gracious service by management & staff was super impressive.)

The rv shouldn't come from the factory crappy to begin with! Dealers should complain about repairs being needed on delivery.

Vultures are after the brine, salt residue left on the rubber seals and crevices.... Especially in the midwest and north... MO
Then the lesson seems to be to frequently clean any rubber parts they can get to.

These are analogous to the luxury boxes at a sports stadium. The cost is irrelevant to the “one percenters” and corporate royalty and KOA knows it.

KOA's are usually just a rest overnight stop for us. Most are close to the highway. There's no real standard. Some are nice and some are terrible.

My mechanic told me many rubber and plastic parts manufacturers have incorporated PEANUT OIL in their processes! This is a FAVORITE of rodents and it's causing all kinds of destruction. Feathered creatures love to eat seeds. Peanuts are actually seeds, not nuts. So, I strongly suspect that's what's now drawing the vultures to vehicles.
Camping world wanted $3000 is dealers fees and to get the camper ready. Expensive.
The guy who helped the calf up the bank should probably have been given a friendly explanation why he should not have done that (I could see myself doing the same thing even after this new info). The bimbette with the selfy on the other hand.... at least she gets to be the poster child with all the notoriety due her.
Quickly checked in Marcus Lemonis. He’s currently CEO of 4 companies including Camping World, and Gander RV. So he’s only part time for each of these companies, and making something like $20,000,000/year from them combined. Mind boggling how a part time employee could be worth that much, and yet be that focussed on any one company in particular.
I’m glad I saw this. If I see a struggling bison calf I will definitely let it drown to save them the trouble of having to kill it.
We won’t give camping world a dime after going to the local dealership where we used to pay $5 to dump our tanks. Camping World bought them and when we went to dump they wouldn’t let us dump unless we bought a Good Sams membership.

No way would I pay KOA for an enlarged site. I actually avoid KOAs because I have found them, on average, more expensive and poorly maintained than numerous other campgrounds.

Camping World has a terrible rep with most of the people I've known who've gotten an rv there. Especially if you need warranty work. One CW kept their RV until it passed warranty on a repair and then refused to fix it because it was out of warranty. The manufacturer did a "good faith" complete repair much quicker than the 4 months it sat at CW. The manufacturers that are good, need to vet their sellers and punish when they pull nonsense like that. I got mine from a local deal after checking them out. CW put a higher MSRP on the same unit and had it on sale for a couple of thousand more than our dealer who had a lesser MRSP on it.... BUYER BEWARE.

Going to hold onto our 1966 Serro Scotty for as long as possible!! Have already owned it a number of years. Very low tech....which is what camping is all about.
I owned a Serro Scotty and sold it to a guy around 1987 or so. He was going to use it as a hunting shack on land he owned. I've occasionally wondered what happened to it. It was built like a tank. Incredibly solid and sturdy. I'm sure it is still around somewhere. It was solid as a rock. We couldn't fully stand up in it. The guy who bought it was probably 5'5" or 5'6". He looked right at home standing in it. I hope it brought him happiness.
In New Zealand, we have an even worse problem with our alpine parrot, the Kea, as it causes heaps of damage to vehicles, as well as other things. Look for vids using the words 'Kea bird car' and you'll see them in action.
In all fairness I know a few places here that just need to go out of business. Some of their reps don't listen and they're not very helpful and management does nothing to fix the issues.

I live in Evergaldes NP. There are signs EVERYWHERE that say "it is illegal to feed or disturb the wildlife, up to $5000 fine."
Some yo yo drove a DRONE across an osprey nest and got caught (by my co. adn the NPS.) he got three great "take home prizes"
1. An INSTANT $500 fine.
2. A FREE RIDE all 38 miles POUT of the park. The ranger drove the guy's car, he sat in the back.
3. ONE YEAR BAN on entering ANY National APrk, ANYWHERE in the US or beyond. ANYWHERE.
these peopel DO NOT PLAY...then again, they have NOTHING else to do!

I prefer state and national parks to KOA because they give so much room! We were just at Pfeiffer Big Sur campgrounds and we loved it! Our local RV-only campgrounds are packed together like sardines. You feel like you are in a parking lot.
If I could find a KOA with an environment similar to Pfeiffer Big Sur I would jump on it. There are times I do want hookups.
As to the Vultures and vehicles, showed what I believe to be a Ford pickup. Don't mean to start anything, however if I recall correctly "Found On Road Dead" comes to mind and they are Vultures?

Don't EVER buy a covid built trailer. Quality control and standard equipment were thrown out the window because the industry was pumping them out as fast as they could and the shortage of parts led to a lot of scaling down of standard items. Less windows. D/C fridges only and smaller. Smaller A/C units. Nothing but trouble if you buy one.
DC fridge is the best anyway. Works even when not level. Did I mention it works?

After 2 years of researching and looking in person at the quality , production, warrantees and sales , this is one of the most horrible purchases a person could make. Black vultures have a terrible sense of smell? I don’t know if they’re related to turkey vultures that we have down here in Texas when I buried my 15 year old dog the vultures were around, when I went out the next day there was one standing on his grave. That guy could smell him from 2 feet under the ground. I find that very hard to believe that Rey headed vultures any different

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...I'm exploring the idea of buying a used, probably late 90s, C class RV later this year and would like to attempt to live/travel in it for a year (all of 2024). I don't know much about what to look for to avoid getting stuck with a bad RV, so if there's some type of forum (not Facebook; never got into that) where I can ask questions and learn the ins and outs of buying/owning/fixing a RV I would appreciate it. I've tried watching several channels here on YT, but have not found any videos that cover specifically what I'm trying to learn...thanks.

Not a fan of KOAs overall, so no...definitely would not pay extra. KOA fees are expensive enough, and most of them cram in RVs like sardines. If we wanted that, we'd still be staying in hotels.
The only exception: Bangor, ME, KOA. We stayed there fall 2021. Absolutely blew away every single one of the dozen+ KOAs we've stayed in. It is more park-like than others, and the genuinely gracious service by management & staff was super impressive.)
