This tutorial is for the GameCube version of Prime. While Space Jump can be acquired first in Remastered, it requires a frame perfect extended dash with a change in control stick input midway through and is much harder to pull off than on GameCube. 23 years. 23 years I've been trying this trick off and on every time I played this game. Today, I finally got it, and was SO nervous I was gonna mistime the easy jumps to the space boots. Thank you for the video!
I've tried to do this trick for years, but I always messed it up with no way of knowing what I did wrong. Thanks so much for making this!!! I might whip out the old gamecube and see if I can get it working.
this is SUCH a good tutorial! i was following along and couldnt get it, but as soon as you said if you hold the button too long you dont get the height, i tried flicking the button faster and got it first try. excellent stuff!
Dude, 3 years late but I wanna say, Thank you, I've been trying this since I'm quite new to sequence breaking, and your How to for dummies finally achieved what others couldn't, teach me how to properly do it.
You are the only reason I was able to get these boots. I had so much difficulty with the half pipe that I wanted to do the ledge jump but I couldn't get it right at all. You're a lifesaver.
Years ago I played the original not patched version and performed it with scan dash and enemy lock dash several play throughs. Today I played on dolphin emulator and the scan dash is patched and not working on my used rom. Now the enemy lock dash worked for me as shown in the video and made it with the first try to be honest. Really great video and precise explained. Thank you very much, my man.
@@GarryDumblowski Hey man, I’ve played through the game twice already. I kept trying to use the strategy in this video, but could never get it, so I just went all the way back from Phendrana Drifts after getting the boost ball!
I have known for a long time that you could scan dash onto the ledge, but I just could not figure out how to do it. After watching this tutorial, I was able to get it the first try. Thank you
After 20 yrs...I finally did it thanks to your tutorial!!!!!! For me turning was the big problem. Once I stopped doing that I could do it repeatedly over and over
Ive been trying to get this jump for hours and i couldnt seem to do it. Until I watched this video. After watching this video it took me litterarly like 3 seconds to get the jump right. Thanks!
I am so glad you made this video. I watched one years ago and it had very little information. I was still able to figure it out. Of course I dont have the scan dash version either. Again valuable information. I did the 1st try after watching.
Very helpful guide! I've never done any speedrun tricks before, but I managed to get the scan dash in a few minutes. I'm not consistent at it, but I got it a few times. And the ledge jump in alcove I got first try.
I never knew about the red scan for the jump i usually manage my way up there using the other ones trying extra hard for no reason lmao Also I appreciate the smash comparison
I don't know if this will ever be updated, but there's actually one key thing that actually makes a consistency difference. With a single B Press, most times you won't actually dash -- It will just be a janky jump. You need to tap B twice when moving right while locked on to ACTUALLY get your dash. Once I figured that out, I get it consistently, every time now.
If you're still in a regular jump, it's likely because you have B held down for too long I'm glad that tapping B twice works for you, but that's not what makes the dash work and why I didn't cover that in the video For reference, I and virtually every Prime speedrunner consistently dash with one B press. It's all about having B pressed for as little time as possible
For anyone having reflex issues with letting go of the L trigger. turn on the “swap beam controls” option under settings to switch the lock on button to the R trigger. (Got it on my first try after failing multiple times with the L trigger)
Also since ive realized this but for scan dashing you fly more further depending on how much you hold down the B button if you practically tap the button it works flawlessly but if you are making those dash jumps but not letting go of B quickly enough you do more of a large side hop and fall to the ground fast but a perfect scan dash makes you dash in a good vertical line as opposed to a jump that resembles more of a curve downward
Unfortunately no, not at this time. Scan dashing was patched in later game releases and combat dashing got nerfed in the trilogy wii release which Remastered is based on.
I stopped playing Metroid prime for a long while but I grabbed the controller again and re learned it by watching the part where you stop pressing the button. Me secs later already have the Space Boots
I knew about this for a while but could never do it. I realized from this video that I must do the creature lock on. I just can't get it, I feel like I get close, though. It's also annoying to keep running back for the lock on.
I'm trying on the Wii Trilogy version (US), using the seedling enemy. I can dash, but I can't get the height required. Is it even possible in the Trilogy version, or is my timing just off?
Unfortunately this is only possible on GameCube as your dash momentum isn't conserved the same way on the Trilogy version. You *can* get space jump earlier than intended with a bomb jump, but it's quite precise if I remember correctly.
@@BashPrime Thanks for letting me know! I'll try the bomb jump and stop wasting time strafing. Just trying to make my first playthrough in years interesting
I think what's really sad about this is not just that this trick was nerfed along with tons of the other speedrunning tricks; I can only assume said nerfs will carry over to the (possible) next gen port in the future.
If you're getting enough speed but not enough height, your B press is still the issue. There's a video on dashing technique in my description that I recommend checking out
Alright I have been trying this FOR TWO DAYS STRAIGHT! This is driving me nuts. I am getting the speed EASILY, however I am not getting the height to reach the ledge, what am I doing wrong?
You're probably pressing B for too long. You want to press and let go of B as quickly as possible. Also, if you'd can't do any strafe dash while scanning, it sounds like you have the player's choice version. You can also find out by looking at the bottom of the disc and seeing if you have 0-00 or 0-02
@@BashPrime 0-02 I take it that's the player's choice version? If so no wonder I've been having trouble with this. I was trying to scan dash off that one scan point for over 4 hours. @@mrzeloswilder Sorry to reply so late. NTSC 0-02 is indeed the player's choice version so scan dashing is patched. I haven't tried using the beetle method, but the seedling method is nice because you have a good angle to dash onto the ledge.
