Out of all the other videos available, yours is the most helpful. You’ve put all the essential tips really nicely, covering all the areas one can think of. Thank you!
My tip is, don’t only look at the temperature but the wind. It can be 5 degrees, but with the wind it feels like -10 (watercold) if you ask google the wil say what the feeling temperature is. On a nice day, with minus 5 degrees, blue sky no wind, it feels great.
Hello! Thanks for the tip! Do you have some suggestions about where can I buy a good rain jacket? Or boots? It is my first winter in the Netherlands. Thanks.have a good day
Fellow expat living in The Netherlands! Stumbled upon this video and boy oh boy, ever since I moved here, winters make me think of rainy and depressing autumns, haha.
Thanks for the tips, we are spending our first winter in the Netherlands and we will implement all your suggestions. I particularly love the idea about planning trips for the summer! Have lovely Cristmas and NYE.
Makes me chuckle when someone complains about cold and unpleasant Dutch winters. I come from north of the Europe. -10C... -20C is nothing unusual there. So winter in Netherlands makes me feel like heaven!
thank you for the clarification on "cold" winter temperatures. it seems that all the NL youtubers are from warm countries and just say winter is cold. this provides some context to what that means, this is different for me since our winters get to -40 degrees and summers can hit almost 40 degrees :P so lows of 2 is shorts and t-shirts weather.
Once you layer up like that, do you feel so comfortably warm as if you’re hugged or as if you are in Australia?🤣 I hate cold so much, and it is one thing that is stopping me from migrating to the NL!
You’ll always be a little bit cold but I feel pretty snug and warm when I’m wearing the right clothes! We spend a lot of time indoors during the winter season too. The weather is definitely not as good as Australia though so good to think about what you can handle 😅😅
I must say that I'm not really an expert when it comes to bike types/prices! I was lucky and got mine for free...! I will say that a normal bike (e.g. omafiets) is about 100-150 EUR second-hand. Batavus, Gazelle, Cortina are all good bike brands. A lot of people also have electric bikes from Van Moof but they are expensive. You can buy for cheaper on Facebook marketplace/street markets, but sometimes they are stolen which is a big problem. Sorry I'm not much more help!
Yes you can! But I personally find it a little bit heavy, and prefer to cycle in my Uniqlo down jacket (also because you heat up really quickly when cycling in winter) :)
Hi Leesa, I am struggling to find a fake turtleneck collar / vest (also had a look on Weekday) Maybe I'm googling the wrong thing! Where could I buy one do you think? Thank you!
The recommended dosage according to the NHS (UK public health system) is 10 micrograms of vitamin D (or 400 UI) for adults and children over 4 years old ✅
Just out of curiosity, why did you choose Dr Martens Chelsea boots? Does the zipper make it easier? Sorry I'm asking all these questions. New to this cold weather.
Yes I liked having a zipper over the laces, and I liked the black stitching for a more subtle look (usually Doc Martens have yellow stitching) :) I cycle with anything I feel comfortable in and that I don’t mind getting a bit beaten up - for me that is boots and sneakers. Obviously people wear all kinds of shoes, whatever floats your boat!
Hey Leesa, thanks for the video. I noticed you said that you wear mainly jeans, don't your jeans get wet and cold for the area that's not covered by your jacket? Was contemplating a waterproof jacket but wonder if it's overkill. Thanks for the informative video 😊
That’s why I love my longer winter jacket, because it covers most of my legs and I find the lower part of my legs don’t get wet if I’m wearing a jacket like the one I showed :) and if you’re planning to live in the netherlands than a waterproof jacket is a must! Definitely NOT overkill
Hehe, thanks for the response. I guess a long jacket would probably cover my legs as I am pretty short 😂 Even though it's not what you do, can you suggest any waterproof pants?
Hi Leesa, Could you please share a link to the black Uniqlo coat that you wear? The one that looks put-together? (I can’t seem to find it on their website). Thanks!
Just returned from Amsterdam to the UK. Weather pretty much the same in both countries - either: clear blue sky & sunny, but cold; or cloudy, warmer, but wet. Put tyour nose out of the door first to test for temperature & therefore how many layers of clothing you need; and, if it's overcast, always take an umbrella!
hi leesa, i’m going in the netherlands this coming march. i just want to know if it’s still cold there by that time (basically i’m going there second week of the month). do you have any suggestions what clothes should i bring?
Yes I’d say that it is still a bit chilly! Average temperature is 2-10 degrees celcius. I’d bring a warm jacket/coat (if it’s waterproof then even better), jumpers and some long sleeve tops. Maybe you could get away with dresses and stockings and jumper. The key is to layer! Enjoy your trip!

I can relate to that! If you have any other tips on how to survive winter in the Netherlands, I’m all ears!
That’s when we make it “gezellig” at home.❤
the weather here is also cold every rainy day, thanks for the tips
Hi Leesa Yu, nice vlog how to stay warm, good tips! I wish you a Merry Christmas and a healthy ( and warm ) 2023! 🎄🥂
Thank you, same to you!!
Super useful tips! Thanks for sharing!

I hope these suggestions will help make winter much more enjoyable in the Netherlands! And Merry Christmas + happy NYE to you too!☺️
Me too. Our first time in Netherlands and our first winter. I'm following your guides. And I appreciate your video sooo much
Very helpfull, thanks!
Makes me chuckle when someone complains about cold and unpleasant Dutch winters. I come from north of the Europe. -10C... -20C is nothing unusual there. So winter in Netherlands makes me feel like heaven!
😂😂 fair enough! I think I would not survive where you’re from!
You never lived in a Dutch winter, you can better have -10, than a wet 3 or 5 degrees with cold wind. It’s a horrible cold.
@@Harrypjotter7that's true -20 dry and no wind in Austria feels like heaven for this Dutchmen
I lived in Kazan for a few years. -12C with dry air felt great. I would take that over gloomy rain windy sad boring weather any day.
@@1977Basyep, the Netherlands has the worst winter weather on the planet, where people live. The worst. There's literally nothing good about it
Could you do a video for Autumn clothing please? This videos are super helpful
Good idea, I will think about it!
I have the same hygge game you have in the background, I love it! 😊🥰
I love it too! It’s such a great game, perfect for staying in with friends and family 😍 and for those long winter days indoors haha

Yes winter coldness is all subjective! I have friends who absolutely love the weather and find it quite comfortable :)
Merry Christmas! 🎄
Merry Christmas to you too!
Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the video a lot.
I enjoyed making the video! Glad to hear it 🥰☺️
Lol from Chicago and wore shorts and t shirt today at 38 degrees. Lol we are all so different
So helpful as always, Leesa! Merry Christmas :)
Aww thanks good to hear! Merry Christmas to you too! 🥰

You can use Vaseline or something like that for your nose (and other exposed parts of the skin).
Ah interesting! Although would my nose then be quite shiny from the Vaseline? 😂
@@LeesaYu Maybe, but who cares. It's better than putting on a clown's nose.
Can you make an episode about bikes' types and prices!

Hi Leesa. I love the Elvine Allyson jacket in your video. Can one cycle with it as well?
Yes you can! But I personally find it a little bit heavy, and prefer to cycle in my Uniqlo down jacket (also because you heat up really quickly when cycling in winter) :)
@@LeesaYu Thank you so much for the feedback. I appreciate it so much!

Hi Leesa, what shoes do you use to cycle in? Thank you
usually sneakers or boots, but people will cycle in anything they feel comfortable in :)
i tried finding the fake turtle neck on weekday website, no luck. Could you please share the link
Unfortunately it was a few seasons ago, so no longer for sale. You could google 'neck warmer' to see other options :)
