I agree with Rocky's logic of choosing something that works with your individual color palette. I also like the yet to be introduced Grand Canyon tartan.
Grand Canyon has ~officially~ been introduced! Check it out here: www.usakilts.com/america-250/grand-canyon.html
I tend towards the darker earth tones in my wardrobe. I have County Cork, Urquhart Broad Red Modern, and I just ordered the Appalachian Folklore tartans, greens and generally dark tartans. I like my Warrior tartan, purple and black, too, which I used in Highland competitions. But again it is relatively a dark tartan and goes with a lot of different shirts. Great discussion.
Thank you! And all good choices for your wardrobe!
The most versatile tartan I own is American Dream, with Nordic Heritage close to it.
I LOVE my purple kilt. It goes with almost everything. Black, white, red/dark red, blue, some browns, dark green, UTx-Austin Orange, and looks great with t-shirts, polo shirts, and formally with button down and a vest. It makes a purple tie I have really POP!!! Iso, I'd say purple is a good all 'rounder.
Interesting choice!
I concur that it really depends on what colors a person wears, and also if they want subdued versus bright.
Grey Granite and Black Isle likely will work with a large variety, by virtue of their colors.
For more colors but subdued. I tend to agree with Isle of Skye, Nordic Heritage, and Kilts & Culture.
The most versatile kilt I own for bright colors is Innes Red Modern. Despite it being in modern color palette, there are so many colors in it that almost any shirt and hose will work with it.
My first kilt is the Nordic Heritage, it definitely goes with almost anything.
My choice would be the venerable classic Black Watch aka Government aka Campbell Ancient tartan. Looks good with pretty much any other color. May be too generic for some tastes but I appreciate its classic beauty.
It's a good option, for sure!
I've become a huge fan of the various weathered tartans as you guys were discussing. Besides K&C, I like Black Watch weathered, Gordon weathered, and Forbes weathered. That's just off the top of my head.
I would love if you guys added tartan colors in ads that are in the ad. My fiance loves the ally the piper ladies full ad color but can't find it. Also i would love one in just oldschool like wool and natural dyes from scotland dull rocky woody as clans would have had prior to british influence.
Blackwatch
That's one of the most popular answers!
