  • Aloha! Here are 5 things not to do when visiting Hawaii. I'm sharing this from a Local/Hawaiian Perspective. I want to make sure you don't do these 5 things because these are Federal and State Laws, things dear to the Hawaiian culture, and to make sure you're safe and have the best trip when visiting Hawai!
I’m always more than happy to reply. But, that’s only if you liked this video and subscribed ☺

Here are the 5 things not to do in Hawaii:
    1) Do not touch or get close to the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and Hawaiian Monk Seals.
Report any of these violations to NOAA Enforcement Hotline
(1-800-853-1964) or the Department of Land and Natural Resources (808-643-3567). Taking a photo of the person in violation helps too.
    2) Do not hike when it's rainy
In areas that are off-limits, start a hike late at night, and do a hard hike that is beyond your limits. Downloading the All Trails App or visit website: www.alltrails....
    3) Do not litter or leave your trash behind
Seriously, 😠 look how beautiful these islands are. Please keep it trash-free so it can look beautiful for this generation, and generations to come! ⛰
Video Credit: @ryzone (Instagram). Follow @greenmanhawaii (Instagram)
    4) Do not underestimate the ocean 🌊
Mother nature is tougher than us all. Check the weather that day, go with a friend, and ask a lifeguard what they would recommend for your experience level. And.. don't turn your back on the ocean for pics! IG likes is not worth being swept away by the waves!
    5) Do not leave your valuables in your car or on the beach!
Although Hawaii is paradise, we have thieves that steal. Thieves understand that people park and leave their cars unattended for hours when doing long hikes. Keep your valuables out of sight, and just bring what's necessary. Don't leave any valuables on the beach when you jump in the water. Your valuables may not be there when you come out of the water 🏖
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    Enjoy and Aloha!! 😎

Thank you for posting this! As a frequent visitor visiting family in Hawaii for years, this information shared is VERY IMPORTANT. I don’t hesitate to check anyone disrespecting the islands, nor her inhabitants sea life or human life. VISITORS also need to practice Aloha. Visitors wouldn’t want other visitors disrespecting their home. Just like you said Sean, you want to preserve the beauty of the islands for generations. Much Aloha and Mahalo!

Fully agree! These things all make perfect sense and are basic... and every time we've been in Hawaii we've seen so many people NOT doing them! I also agree with adding the rule below - respect others hiking in the area, as well as animals and birds, and keep voices and music volume down! When you are welcomed to someone else's house/land show respect and appreciation. If you do this in Hawaii it is my experience that you'll get abundant friendly respect in return!

Thanks for watching the video! And yes, like Hawaii and everywhere else, I'm sure there's a lot of people that don't know the rules or have common knowledge they should know. Yes sir. I am here (Oahu) for the first time. Visited Kauai many years ago and learned all of these things.
The main thing that resonates with me is the power of the ocean. I unfortunately injured myself running a few weeks ago and my achilles is messed up still. Its been hard and very sad but I won't even step foot in the water right now while hurt. I was watching the local kids get pounded in the shore break on Sandy Beach a few days ago. Next time I am out here and not injured - I cannot wait to get in the water.
The steep shorelines, currents, and waves are unbelievably dangerous here. There's a reason so many of the locals are in such great shape. Gotta be tough in Hawaii.

    • @SeanKaleponi
      @SeanKaleponi  2 роки тому +1

Aloha Andrew. I hope that you are enjoying yourself here in Hawaii. And even some of the locals here, underestimate the power of the ocean. I'm glad you understand how powerful Motherature is and even more of a respect I have for you. Sorry about your Achilles and Sandy's is no joke. Bit there's so much things you can do without stepping foot in the ocean and experience Hawaii!! Maybe next time you can surf here injury free. Mahalo Andrew for your input!:)

I would love the opportunity to see a Hawaiian Monk seal... at a distance. To me, it would be the same thing as someone who was not from around here wanting to get close up and personal with an American Bison. Not only does it disturb the the animal, but they are a wild animal, and you never know when that encounter might turn very painful. It's one of the reasons why if I got the chance, I'd bring the binoculars.
I have seen a green sea turtle once when I was snorkeling on the Kona Cost. I did stay a distance away because I didn't want to scare it off, but I did want to watch it's behaviour. It was grazing on seaweed which was growing on the rocks. It was ultra-cool to see this beautiful animal doing its thing, and going about it's day. The next day, I found an octopus and a moray eel, both of which I watched from a distance also. I know that morays will not hesitate to chomp down on you if it thinks some part of you might be edible, and though octopus usually aren't dangerous, It was much more interesting to watch it go about its business than it would have been to get inked, and then see nothing after that. I have always been taught to live in peace with the environment and the other creatures in it, and though I enjoy watching my brothers and sisters in the animal world, and learning about their way of life, I don't want to make their day any more difficult than it already is.
It seems ridiculous to me to be hiking on anyone's sacred lands, although her on the mainland it is done all the time. Good examples would be the Black Hills, which are sacred to the Lakota People. Yet there are always things being done there which are disrespectful and destructive. The same is true in the shining mountains where there are many sacred places of the Ute tribe, and places where ancestors are buried, yet people are forever searching for the graves and stealing the grave goods, even of more recent graves. People are always walking all over Ship Rock in Arizona, which is sacred to Dine, and is on their tribal property, so what the heck? If it is someone else's sacred space, respect it, and only go there with respect if you are invited by the people for whom it is sacred. I see videos here on UA-cam where people are walking around in canyons in the American southwest, and they come across what they think is a "granary" It's not a granary. It's a place where someone was placed after they died. The reason there are corn cobs in there is not because it was where they kept grain, but rather because they put corn, (among other things) in there to help the person on their way to and through the afterlife. It is disrespectful to be shuffling around in there, moving stuff and taking stuff out. Leave it alone. It is no more yours than a grave in a well manicured graveyard is.
Be respectful to others, even if their ways died out centuries ago.

Seals will bite people if they get bugged or disturbed, especially if it's a resting seal or a mother nursing her pup. Incessant talking, laughing and playing music at full volume scares off animals and makes it impossible to hear birds, water, and other sounds of nature. It gets tiresome to have tourists constantly at my fence asking questions about my farm and animals. I live in the country and the illegal Airbnb bring these kine people to the neighborhood.
