Great video...just a few days ago I drove to 400 Smith Road in Parsiappny NJ looking for any remnants of a venue called Joint In The Woods after learning they played in 1974...as expected its now a bunch of stores and hotels.

That building was a insurance company. The auditorium stood next door to the building you are showing. The auditorium was destroyed in the early 90’s. So no they did not play in the building. The empty lot is where it took place.

Wow, that's sad. If Ronnie hadn't gotten so drunk the night before, he might not have taken those sleeping pills & would have been coherent & known what was going on & had seat belt on that mighr have saved his life instead he was out of it & thought Gene Odom was messing with him, Gene shoved him in his seat & put seat belt on him & Ronnie took it off. It might have saved his life. Hard to say because Allen & Gary were in middle facing each other & Dean, Ronnie, Cassie & Steve were surrounding them.
Really sad because the band was tryin to srraighten up & had been doing much better but Jack Daniels had a strong hold on him. I believe at least some of them would have gotten off the drugs & booze as they all got married & had kids. They n3ver got the chance & esp Allen & Gary lived with the guilt & ended up costing Allen his life. Gary was lucky. Thc for the video

Or what if Ronnie didn't say that if you don't get on the plane ,your fired?what if everyone looked at each other and busted out laughing and saying",cool let us know how our replacements sound..
What if artimus wasn't over an hour late while the plane stayed running burning fuel the whole time....
I always wondered what if Ronnie survived but Gary or Allen did not? Would the guilt be too much for Jack Daniels to help Ronnie? Would Ronnie have written any songs about the whole ordeal? Cassie Gains had purchased plane tickets because of the fear of that plane, Steve decided to stay with the band and that pos airplane and Cassie didn't want t leave steve

    • @kathyrais574
      @kathyrais574 2 роки тому +6

@@davehelmick7395 I don't think Ronnie said get on plane or your fired. According to Gary, Ron Eckerman tour Mgr, & Jo Jo who wasn't on plane but had talked to Allen to beg him not to got on plane. She had dream abt plane crashing. Anyway they all said Ronnie said if it's your time to go, it doesn't matter what you are doing, Gary felt same. IDK if that is a southern thing but my dad was from the south & always said exact same
He said I don't care how you get there, just don't be late. Cassie had talked abt riding with equipment guys in the truck but didn't. You know it is when you are young, you think nothing will ever happen, think you're invincible.
I am not sure if Ronnie could have handled it honestly. He was really trying to quit drinkin but he would slip up here & there but was doing so much better. I think the guilt would have been too much & he would have drank himself to death. Especially Gary & Allen because they were the original 3 guys & were super close & he was very protective of them esp Allen. He felt responsible & promised their mothers he would take care of them.
I know Gary says he & Allen felt a little of guilt for even living because they were sitting across from each other w/Steve & Cassie on one side & Dean & Ronnie on the other.
Hard to say man but I still think abt it after all this time what if?
Anytime someone young or in their prime is taken, just such as waste of a life, same with Duane & Berry dying so close young.
Gary said that is one reason he still has the band, because it was their dream & they didn't live long enough to see what an impact their music had on people, they didn't get to see the songs become classics. That people think Ronnie was a great songwriter & Allen great guitarist.
By keeping the music alive is his way of honoring his friends that he lost.
Poor Steve after struggling for years, finally got his chance & was finding his place in the band. A year & a half he got to enjoy playing with them, recording a live album, tour the world, write songs with Ronnie & sing with Ronnie & even had 1st Skynyrd hit that didn't feature Ronnie singing, one of my favorite Ain't no good life. I am glad he did have that time regardless how short because you watxh him & you can tell he is having the time of his life!
I know tragedies hapoen all the time but this one is hard to get over. They were/are my fav band, I never get tired of listening or watching them but I never got to see them live. My mom had cancer 74-77, she died 2 mos before plane crash so for me the 2 are forever linked. They were gonna be comin to my town in Nov so missed them by 1 mon.
I did get to see RCB & they were great but.....
I think 100 yrs from now people will still be listening to the music. I hope they know how much people loved them. I hears RVZ talking abt Free Bird once & think he was bothered that that & Sweet Home were all some people knew them for. If you watch the concert at Asbury Park, people are yelling Free Bird before 2nd-3rd songclike they usually did & he comments yes I know that song very well but we got some other music we wanna play 1st. I think it bothered him, just the way he answers that like Free Bird is great but we have dozens of other songs besides Free Bird.
Gary I'd having another heart surgery any day so anybody that reads this, please say a prayer for him.
Sorry this was so long, I get to talk abt Skynyrd & don't know when to stop!

@@johnnydynamite7153 There have been rumors abt that for yrs but I never heard anyone from Aerosmith speak out abt it til Joe Perry talked abt it in his autobiography. He said it was very common to swap planes, Fleetwood Mac has this plane then we took for 2 wks. Whoever they sent to look at plane put his foot down & said no to that plane.
Some people said they saw pilots drinking but never heard anyone confirm it. He said they felt it was divine intervention, that when they hears qbt crash they were devastated. They knew Skynyrd, liked their music.
I imagine it was a really creepy feeling, just like Jo Jo having dream that plane crashed & called Allen begging them to not get on plane.

Look up the Brown Box in Greenville SC and you can see where the Memorial Auditorium was until it was imploded in the 90s.
It was a brown brick, and from the aerial view you can see the white building and fence surrounding where the Auditorium used to stand.

a lot of the venues in London where fans and followers of hard rock and roll/heavy metal music used to gather have gone a long time ago, there were two places I used to roam with my two rock and roll partners in crime, whenever we heard the call of the wild; THE ASTORIA (close to Tottenham court road tube station) and THE STANDARD (Pub) where we saw good tribute bands like DIRTY/DC, LIME HOUSE LIZZY, PARANOID, RAINBOW RISING and other tribute bands I cannot remember...... now the places all have been demolished and turned into shops and stores for cloths ad stuff........... soon will have no place where to rock if we carry on this way.

Bottom line is simple common sense, the band and entourage should NEVER have gotten on that plane in the first place, particularly after it landed the first time and there was fire coming out of one of the engines. Just tragic and preventable. Plus, pilot and his incompetence were comparable to manslaughter on his part.
