Use the hi hat as your metronome and don't overplay with bass drum fills, which will often speed up the tempo.

Live BPM is a good app to check your live recordings with. I'll check in with the app on a gig by placing the phone behind me and taking a quick glance if I think the time is getting a little wonky during a tune.

How to play 5/4 swing pls

Play 4/4 and then add a quarter note

You can also throw some of your waltz groove ideas in followed by a bar of two and vice versa

5:3 polyrhythm on ride cymbal sounds great, swings, and is very easy to play with one hand up to medium-fast tempos at least for me.
