In the working field telling the truth builds trust with your team.

It's important to be upfront with people. And I believe you CAN tell the truth - even it's not complimentary. You just gotta know HOW to talk to people. It's not always what you say. It's HOW you say it that effects people more.

The truth matters, and so does taking responsibility when you know you have to. When it's your place to do so and not anyone else's. It's the only way to make things right.
Especially when we're the biggest representative for our community.
    "Am I my brother's keeper..."
    You're damn right i am.
I had better be lest i be a coward, and I refuse to be as such.
"Fools multiply when wise men are silent."
This boils down to weak or bad leadership just like Jocko says.

I think there is a subtle distinction between being honest and "telling the truth". In my mind "Telling the truth" is a straightforward, no sugar coating download of accurate information. No fluff. No excuses. Just facts. Whereas, being honest allows the nuance of personal preference, personal responsibility, and ownership to come into play. I can be honest with my wife about her cooking. If it's not great I tell her what could have been done better. We both acknowledge that I'm a superior cook. However; I don't hit her with a harsh truth as that would be unnecessarily hurtful. I chose to say what I think, honestly like "it could use a touch more salt." Or "tastes a bit like oil burned. Was it smoking a lot when you were cooking it?"
Instead of telling the truth of "I don't like this." Which is blunt and a bit hurtful. But if I'm being honest. I'm a picky eater, so I will let her know that I'm going to eat it anyways and that I appreciate her effort and dedication to cooking me food. In this way, we have developed a feedback system where I can be honest with her, while also taking her feelings into account. Is she still a little disappointed when it doesn't turn out quite right? Of course, but she doesn't walk away with her pride in tatters and her feelings destroyed by a cold, callous truth

What if you gave guidance, resources and can't find any other way to get better with someone? Is it really true that every person can cooperate with every other?

    You had something to hide
Should have hidden it, shouldn't you?
    Now you're not satisfied
With what you're being put through
It's just time to pay the price
    For not listening to advice
    And deciding in your youth
    On the policy of truth

The truth will set you free. Yes and no - She knows I am not keen on the texture of eggplant, yup.
absolutely - "I don't don't like it." that does not help much - need actionable information. It is not easy, when we are close to the issue, close to the truth.
It is not just me and E - go -I go for my walk. Limping - bad to walk in dress socks - there is a place and time for everything. I am lazy and the truth is easy. Nor me, not perhaps for others - Would you rather I lie or "Shut up Ed." your call. I am a short timer - door gunners in Nam evidently lasted "two weeks" on average. With the Lord on my side, perhaps a bit longer - I hear your words and see the lips moving. What would you have me do? Be like them. Dinner is great, gag - so this becomes a staple. Or no, it is me, I am not fond of X, Y Z. But I like your, ... or the way you ...
There is more to life than heating TV dinners. Guess this is why I live alone. I would rather you / she tell me the truth. Actionable data is good, it may simply be a matter of taste.
When I get tired, sun burned, sore - you get the truth - fire bullets - get out of the way - too tired to play. Stand down or get out of my way - I am going somewhere. No more fing around. Just do it.
There is a time for polite and a time for truth. Just do it.
