Wow! Really cool! All I know is that when he played in Oslo, Norway he didn’t bring this guitar because his back was hurt after using it on tour for so long 😂
The Hydra took over 13 years to make. The Hydra weights over 50 Lbs. The guitar has four outputs being run through an Ethernet cable. The device on the floor is a 4 channel preamp that is used with the Hydra. Steve also has a dedicated 4 channel Ax Fx 4 rack mount effects processor for the Hydra. Steve also did a song called Knapsack fron the Inviolate album. Steve had to compose and play it one handed as he had shoulder surgery. There is a video for Knapsack.
7:40, just the one song dude - the guitar itself is called The Hydra. He did do an album during lockdown, but this is the only song on it (as far as I'm aware...) that has this particular guitar! There's an interview somewhere where he explains how The Hydra came to be and it's really insightful!!
He performs this song live with this Hydra guitar. Check out his song Knapsack from this same album. He performs it in a video from his home studio. He had to have surgery on his picking hand and arm, and the doctor said no guitar for several months. Steve started writing legato based songs with his left hand only, and this song is the result. It's absolutely terrifying what this guy can do with just one hand.
hi jeff, i tried to reach you through your email but it has been 5 days without a reply. i apologise for posting this here, but i see no other way to contact you. you posted the peter gabriel cover and in your commentary you told a story and mentioned Tony Levin. so i replied and mentioned that my cousin is in the levin bros band and included a li8nk to a video of them giging. a little while after posting, i went back to watch the video again and i noticed my comment was goine. so i chalked it up to a senior moment thinking i never submitted my comment. so i posted it again, but again it has disappeared. what did I put in my post that it would have been deleted for? if i broke some rule, I apologize and please let me know. tyvm
Hi David, UA-cam is notorious for killing comments when there are links involved. I looked in my "Held for review" section on my side but did not see your comment there. Maybe don't put a link but rather let people know the title of the video so people can search for it.
@@StrateleStudios ok, problem solved. it is weird because i post links in UA-cam frequently and never got flagged for it before. weird considering one link was to a UA-cam video, and the other was a link to the artists website. tyvm for letting me know. ☮
absolutely amazing! Thank you Jeff that was just amazing.
Steve Vai is a guitar GOD !!!
Thanks Jeff! we finally have Mr. Vai 😁
Did you notice the 13 harp strings he is strumming at the bottom? Brings it up to a 36 string I believe😂
@@alexviksnins I thought something like that was going on. I was straining to look on my screen, but I didn’t know exactly what was going on. 😆👏

Crazy stuff.
Yeaaa! He has always been a heavy jammer. Nice!😁
Steve Vai does not currently have the same projection that he had a couple of decades ago, but he is still a fantastic and creative guitarist.
He has a stand to play live BTW😂
😆
Steve Vai saw Luca Stricagnoli and said hold my beer kid
