Nikkie. I watch you and heard you say that your dream would be to work with Lisa! I love seeing that you're a Lisa Groupie like some of us. Hahahaha. Lisa is amazing and so generous to share. You're wonderful too. I love your vids!!! 😘😘😘😘.
Thanks Nikkie! I love exploring different approaches and ideas of beauty. As I replied to someone earlier.... Im just happy that we havent got to the stage - in what is relatively (because of technology) a small world - were there is a homogenised vision and take on beauty and make-up. Hope that never changes X
I'm Korean😊 and really appreciate to Lisa! Most of korean girls has cushion foundation! The puff which Lisa used in this video, is named "air puff". Lisa used this puff like foundation brush but if you want to get glowing skin, tap it on your face not spread👍 I hope that all you guys love korean beauty💕 If you want more question about korean beauty, then just comment below!!
Thank you zzang_mango for your super helpful tips and friendly demeanor- I sure appreciate it. Thanks to a few lovely Korean's here on this channel have supplied us with websites to shop from to get these amazing products; is there any that you too can provide us with? Thanks again for being a lovely person and you should be super proud that your country has excellence and innovation in the beauty field.
Beauty Duty I'm also Korean. Hera is the most common cushion in Korea, but It is not really the best one, I should say. The coverage is great but the finish is not that beautiful. But if you want some coverage Hera is what you should go for. If you have a dry skin, and likes the "GWUANG"look, I would definitely recommend Amorepacific CC cushion, which has poor coverage but a real nice glowing finish and moisturizing effect. Sum37 is also really good, especially when concealing pores and redness, but the colors a bit too yellowish. I don't really recommend the Laneige & IOPE even though I know that these two are really famous out of South Korea.
Sumeyya Justme As you know, really really many cosmetic brands are launching and accordingly various beauty products coming out :) Above all, I want to recommend "Amore pacific" brands. This brands is the biggest cosmetic brand in Korea and also has many cosmetic brand such as Etude House, Innisfree, Hanyul, Mamonde, Iope, Aritaum, Espoir, Laneige and etc!!! Soooo many brands are affiliated to the "Amore pacific"(www.amorepacific-cosmetics.com). Ah! these days, some small businesses are emerge now! Like "bbia" (www.bbia.co.kr) And brand "memebox" is similar with sephora but not expensive! This brand has their own products and also sell other cosmetic brands' products! (www.memebox.com) oh..I want to tell you more and more infromations..! I really appreciate to you that having a great interest of Korea beauty!
Beauty Duty If you want to buy various brands of products, then just go to "Myeong-dong 명동" in Seoul! Myeong-dong has many cosmetic brands on there, so you will easily find the shops :) Actually brand "Etude House" has 6 shops in Myeong-dong! Other brands too. But some brands can only buy in the department store. Like "Amore pacific", "Sulhwasoo", "OHUI" and "Hera" you said. If you interest in "Hera" and have a chance to visit Korea, then visit seoul, Apgujeong-dong "Hera Boutique". You can see all of Hera's products :) I hope that It will help you
These videos are really refreshing! With all of the Kim Kardashian/Kylie Jenner makeup tutorials out there, it is so nice to get back to basics and be gorgeous and beautiful with less makeup! I feel kind of stupid now, for wearing all of that makeup before with the harsh eyebrows!!! Tonight, I am trying this look! Thank YOU!!
APPLAUDING YOUR REMARK ON THE KARSHITTIANS..gawd i can't stand that familly..I was so (and still am) sick and tired of seeing so many freaking videos on Kim's look(the highlighting under her eyes). now it;s the over drawn lip look with the other knucklehead sister...I always loved how the asian females can have that serious natural look with cosmetics and still look fabulous..it's like "r they wearing foundation or not?" the only thing is I just can't get used to the shineness(sp?) of their bb cream and not use powder..but other than that I love their cosmetics/skincare products..
Valerie Torres Korean make-up isn't actually "less" make-up. Same amount of make-up is applied, but it's a lot lighter and meant for showing off your natural features. Koreans actually use a lot of make-up. That's why they're so good at it. :) And the Western look is good, as well. You can mix and match. It depends on your face and what you want to show off!
+Spumante Q I agree that the Korean make-up look doesn't actually involve "less" make-up. The reason why it tends to look more "natural" is that most Korean women are afraid to try many of the colors and techniques that Western women wear, especially on the eyes. Whenever I go to my local Sephora, it's full of Korean tourists buying all the latest Western beauty products. Koreans love Western beauty products, and many of them actually prefer Western brands over Korean brands.
I always prefer a glowy looking skin! It looks much healthier and always makes you look younger. Specially when you are in your late 30's, you don't want to have a matte finish! It makes your skin so opaque and tired! Thanks for posting Lisa, amazing as usual.
This video is so educational to those who aren't familiar with Korean makeup. I love it. Please keep doing makeup tutorials. I learn sooooooo much from you😄😄
Lisa Eldridge Could you do a Korean makeup look on an East Asian model? I would really love to see how to flatter skin and eyes like mine (and also where to find the right shades in the US)
Hehe yeah Jun Ji Hyun wore the YSL Lipstick in #52 in You Who Came From The Stars and it sold out so quick! Another popular one was Yoon Eun Hye wearing Nars's Schiap in I Miss You! I definitely encourage people to try out the cushion foundations; they are so innovative and quick to use! Laneige's Pore Control Cushion is great for oily skin!
I really dislike the trend nowadays - packed on bronzers, matte lipsticks, matte foundation, using blushes that are either too bright/dark and so obvious you have it on....I hate when I go to Nordstrom and the SA automatically wants to pack blush or bronzer on me! ugh...
I'm from Korea and I loved this film. Natural pretty look is definitely the most popular makeup look in Korea, although nowadays, you do see more people adopting the western trends. For instance, this winter, all the girls were wearing bold eyebrows and dark lips, with a rather matt base. But they do it in a quite subdued way. You definitely see more of these styles on the streets than on K-dramas. I think fashion and beauty trends are becoming more and more global and universal these days. Btw, you are amazing as always, Lisa:)
I love how excited she is when talking about the new makeup that she discover in Korea, kind of like how I feel when I open a packet of new flavor chips:P
I like mixing korean and western elements in my make up because it makes a really natural look. For example, last month I got a mascara called Magic pole and i love it because it really opens de eye. I wear glasses so that it really fits me, andI think its a great choice as everyday makeup in combination with a BB cream and a nude or coral lipstick
I don't know how this is possible but, Lisa, I think you look 20 years younger with this makeup. comparing the start of the video and the end, it was like going back in time. this is amazing considering you were not using many products to begin with. it's like magic. Korean makeup sure is amazing
I gotta be honest I was apprehensive seeing a makeup artist such as yourself who is more steeped in 'western' beauty to try and recreate 'asian' beauty but I must say it was a pleasant surprise. And it just shows how versatile of a makeup artist you actually are to be able to watch, respect, and recreate beauty trends from around the world and from across cultures. And i must say I think this 'korean-look' really does suit you since you are already especially beautiful!
oh wow :D i was really shocked to see this in my youtube newsfeed :D i'm so glad you show other culture's beauty trend and inspired makeup tutorial :D i'm a korean-american and my channel actually focuses on korean (k-beauty) makeup so it's refreshing to see popular youtubers (like yourself) who showcases these types of makeup as well :D
To everyone in the US, Laneige is sold at Target. The cushion is $35 dollars and comes with a refill. 'No. 21' would be 'light' at Target. It's an awesome cushion and lasts a long time. It's about the same price or cheaper than ordering it from Korea. Laneige is an Amore Pacific company so they have quality products.
What?! Where are you that you've seen it at Target? Maybe that has something to do with it? Oh me oh my, I'll be on the look out! I hope I can find something that suits me and my sister in law who's Thai. (Side note: I find it HYSTERICAL that she fears the sun because where she grew up in Thailand, it's ugly to have a tan. Where ass I was ridiculed my whole life in Puerto Rico for being so pale no matter how long I let the sun kill my skin cells. Oh, the difference in this world are both crazy and endearing)
GoodandDelicious That's true for pretty much for all of Asia. Pale skin is a symbol of beauty and wealth while tanned skin means you work outside (meaning you are poor).
Usually, when applying cushion foundations, it works a lot better to dab the skin with the sponge. The concept of the cushion is to stamp your skin with the thin layer of foundation and it works a lot better and gives you better coverage if you pat the skin rather than rubbing across your skin like you did in the video. Plus, I found out that rubbing tends to wear out the sponge really quickly, mine started to fray whenever I rubbed it across my skin but my second one lasted forever because I always patted rather than rubbing. The dewy look is pronounced gwang (goo-ong the g and the EW in dew and the ong in gong) Also, the actress that you were talking about is named: Jeon Ji Hyun (pronounced jun-jee-hyun) from the drama, My love from another star. A makeup Rec is the eyebrow mascaras that first debuted with etude house. We Koreans tend to like a natural eyebrow look so we prefer to coat the hairs of the brows to fake thicker brows rather than drawing them in. Or powder, since it looks more natural to the eye because it avoids harsh lines.
So, you wouldn't use a tool from the cushion to your face? The sponge looks so sunk into the packaging! Wouldn't that be bad for bacteria? I'm so curious about cushions now!
Dear Lisa, I never write any comments on youtube but it would mean the world to me if you could read this. I 've watched every single video you've done, you've taught me everything about make up and I am proud to tell you that you made me a make up artist. My passion became my job which makes me the happiest person in the world. I just want to say thank you, you're my biggest inspiration as a professional but also as a person. Many many thanks, Xoxo
I loved this video, Lisa! I am very inspired by fresh, subtle Korean makeup so it was lovely to see your take on it. I've never seen a western well known makeup guru make a video like this, and I'm glad you have! As a western lady myself, it was nice to be able to see it translated to how the look would look on me! More of this please!
love a lot of the korean makeup trends, not as intense and artistic as the western styles, but have that natural and elegant feel^^ very flattering for just about all ages
I was in Korea for the first time around the same time as Lisa so was really excited to see the outcome of her trip. Korean makeup and skincare formulas in the last decade have really been inspiring and really coming into its own in the last 5 years. Makes me slightly misty eyed remembering the early 90s - 00s when the Japanese makeup industry began to really inspire the global cosmetics scene with products such as non-sticky lipglosses, buttery smooth eyeshadows, amazing foundation formulas, effects and formats - all things we take for granted now as standards in Euro-American brands. This was probably missed by many but thank you Lisa for the effort you made to draw distinction between Korean and Japanese trends as opposed to lumping it all in as just "Asian".
I'm personally Japanese but, Koreans skin is super amazing. I watch a lot of their dramas and, both men and women look like they have no pores. Always so glowy and smooth (even old people!). I loved this tutorial over so many of I've ever watched on youtube. With no bias, I think asian makeup is great and best in the world. I really feel like asians don't cake their face and respect the aspect of always looking like themselves. Personally, daily makeup=asian makeup and night/party/special occasion=western makeup is a good balance :)
Yes its soo good! It'll probably take you a couple weeks to finish cause its 20 1-hour long episodes. Kdramas are an investment and addicting but they are definitely worth the time:)
a more recent drama is healer! seriously you know how sometimes you just want to dress guys in better clothes? well that won't be a problem at all bc the main character has literally the best fashion taste i've ever seen in my life.
I find it so interesting that they never do a second series (even if they have been hugely popular!). Here in the West the popular TV shows have second, third, fourth etc series. Quite cool that they just leave it at one I thought X
What a beautiful look! Can you do a video about Korean skincare? They're so big over there on beautiful luminous skin and their makeup really enhances that. Are there any skincare lines you'd recommend?
+Marlyn Smith (Mar) I used to have oily/problematic skin but after I stoppped applying tons of powder it got a lot better (not completely oil free but make up with a nice, healthy glow). I highly recommend to try it ! :D
Marlyn Smith I used to have oily skin as a teenager but overdid it with strong peelings etc now I have the opposite problem so I know both. Believe me oily skin is a blessing compared to dry one and your skin will stay youthful longer
lisa thanks, really this is a breath of fresh air among all those tutorials with highly contoured face, exaggerated illuminator, crazy eyebrows, and tons of makeup that make you look cake face, this is great I hope this kind of makeup become fashionable in more parts of the world, I love it , and if not use Korean makeup because is very hard to get where i live at least i will try to recreate it with my own makeup
I had no idea the Korean word for "light/glow" sounds exactly like the Mandarin Chinese word for "light/glow"! :D I'm sooo happy you did a Korean-inspired look! ^o^ Thank you! It is so fascinating and fun. I love seeing the culture differences reflected onto modern makeup all-across the world and it fascinates me that even though the East Asian countries are so close to each other and share so many cultural similarities that the makeup is still noticeably different from each other. My favorite thing about Korean makeup is how much it focuses on youth. Their look is definitely more suited for my face over Western makeup. Western-style of makeup, unfortunately, tends to age me quite a bit (but I also have a baby face, so I guess that doesn't help XD). I love that the quality of both Korean and Japanese makeup and skincare are amazing from drugstore to highend due to the high demand. I love how experimental Korean companies are with skincare ingredients. There's always a new ingredient that becomes a trend throughout the entire industry. Sure, sometimes it's a bit annoying and gimmicky, but more often than not they unlock something awesome that western companies may have been too afraid to add to the mainstream ~cough~ snail secretion ~cough~. I also love how Korean makeup always finds a way to be innovative rather if it's in formulation, packaging, or delivery. It's mind-blowing to me. Korea and Japan both have huge and powerful beauty industries and it's interesting to see that starting to be recognized in the West (though too bad they often mess it up badly in the beginning). It's also fun to see Korean shops popping up here in Hawaii the past few years. I still got my fingers crossed for Étude! If you haven't heard of Peach and Lily yet, you should definitely check them out! It's a store based in New York that curates Asian beauty products. One of the co-owners was an esthetician in Korea for over 20 years I believe? So she really knows her stuff and I have loved everything she has recommended for me.
Amy He THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm Japanese American, and all the asian beauty vloggers I follow just do western makeup on east asian faces.
Aaaaaahhhhh love love LOVE!! You Lisa, are one of the few youtubers that TEACH your viewers something new in every single video. You are nothing short of revolutionary. Thank you, truly.
This was so refreshing to watch!! I have always wanted to reproduce asian women's skin look! I also find that they achieve the perfect color. Could u maybe do a video on the products you bought for in detail. Thank you Lisa xo
There is alot I like about you but your exuberance for makeup and beauty and your willingness to conquer the globe to find it for us is number one. For me this channel is a favorite treat.
I always find it very amusing how korean makeup is just EXACTLY opposite to western makeup. Straight thick eyebrows as oppose to clean arched eyebrows, ombre lips(darker on the outside and lighter on the inside) as oppose to gradient lips(darker on the inside, lighter on the outside). In my opinion, korean makeup focuses more on brightening their face, looking more awake while western makeup are more on creating different looks and vibes.
From what I've seen, Korean makeup is super diverse (creating different looks and vibes) but is meant to be more flattering on East Asian faces (TYPICALLY less natural shadow, so skin becomes more important, gorgeous lips) and western makeup is more flattering on non-east asian faces (TYPICALLY bigger eyes of different/light colors, defined crease/socket, etc). Korean makeup is more about looking youthful, and western makeup is more about looking sensual. These are, of course, huge generalizations.
this is literally my dream kind of makeup, so fed up with everyone's dramatic contouring and this is just so refreshing. also, really hoping the cushion compact styles make their way over here look so good!!
I absolutely watching all your videos. Learned so much techniques and found so many good products. I appreciate you creating these videos. :) I just wanted to let you know, for the cushion foundation, the best way to apply is not gently smoothing out with the applicator but tap the skin. :) it allows you to have more mulgwang! :) Being a Korean and seeing a fantastic makeup artist to do korean inspired makeup makes me feel so happy :) thanks Lisa for your great work!
I adore asian skincare! It's remarkable that almost every asian woman I met had very flawless skin (from the ages of 14 to 60). Makes me want to have some of their genes too! *haha* This tutorial was very educational as always, gotta love your videos, Lisa! :)
This is a great example of why I love your channel and tutorials. It's not just about make up and making yourself pretty; it's about the art and the cultures of the art. Loved the Marilyn Monroe make up video as well. I 've been learning so much since I subscribed to your channel!
omg, Lisa Eldridge on my post *---* i saw u in a tv program and i said to my mom "ohhh i know who is her! she has a channel in youtube and i follow her" hahahha
I'm Korean, and I was so surprised when I read the title for this video! So honored that you would film a tutorial based on Korean makeup/products haha. It was really interesting to hear what you had to say about the trends there lately because I haven't been there myself in over 5 years now. And the look was lovely~
Koreans tend to be very picky, they don't like spending money on things that don't work. You would think that is how most people are, but they take it to a whole other level. They are all about the skin, so most of the trends involve minimal makeup looks, and big emphasis on skincare. It was so nice to see your opinion on everything! Loved this video!
OMG I LITERALLY FREAKED OUT WHEN YOU MENTIONED MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR!!!! Ahh!! Ok done now lol but yes kdramas are getting super popular!! (I've been obsessed for a few years now and I'm not the slightest bit Asian just thought I should point that out lol) and I love how natural their looks are I used to question if they even wore makeup but obviously now that I know a lot more about makeup I notice the tight lining etc like you mentioned! And the lip tints especially the gradient style where the color is concentrated more in te center of the lips is really pretty!
You are wonderful, Lisa. Not only do I admire your expertise in makeup, but also your respect for different cultures and different approaches. Congratulations on your new job, thanks for being wonderful! Xx
Oooo micapetey you just BLEW my mind!!! :-))) And YASS Nay that would make so much sense!! Ooo lotsa of interesting things happening with our dear Lisa!
Hi! Lisa i'm korean university student. Your video is cool! i want to tell you how to use the air cushion puff! The puff is to use by tapping to skin! But your technique is fine too. Thank you for your interest about korean😁
THANK YOU for highlighting Korean cosmetics! I had a Korean friend in middle school and her female relatives always had flawless, dewy skin. I regret not asking what brands they used! I can't wait to see more regional cosmetic trend videos from you! :D
So amazing to see and learn about popular makeup trends and application from different cultures and countries. I think in general we tend to only give importance to our own cultures and forget that there is a whole world out there. Amazing video Lisa!
Absolutely loved this video Lisa. I think this fresh, pretty look is just what is needed after all these heavy contoured looks which I've never really been a fan of. This look is a lot easier to re create on yourself and will always be timeless. Thank you Lisa for always shedding a different light on makeup. I've followed you for years and you have helped my makeup career xx
Great to see a british youtuber into korean fashion and k-beauty :D I hope you had a nice time in Korea,i visited myself too i went to seoul and i got so many cute products especially from Etude house, tonymoly, holika holika,i really want to try Innisfree and Banilla co though ^-^ You should watch some korean dramas too they are amazing xx
aww i never thought i’d see a korean inspired look on your channel! thank you for spreading korean makeup trends around :) one thing though, the cushion foundations are supposed to be tapped onto the skin with the puff rather than smoothed onto the skin in brush-like strokes. i absolutely loved this video and thoroughly enjoyed it! xx korean dramas are so good and My Love From The Star is amazing!
I love this, so chic! I also love when I travel to see how the makeup is done differently. Even when I go to the South (United States) to visit where my husband is from, the way they speak is different, and so is the makeup style, than it is here in the NYC region. Makeup is like language in a way.
Cultural differences are so interesting ... im so pleased the world hasnt yet become completely homogenised when it comes to perceptions of beauty and trends etc X
I just recently started following you and I have been obsessed with korean make-up for about a year now. I thought that was a rather funny coincidence! I love all of your tutorials so far! For any other Canadians on here that are also interested in trying out korean products, The Face Shop is actually a korean company that recently opened up in many places in Canada! Their products are amazing but be warned that their bb creams and concealers are really meant for the asian olive or very pale skin colour. But their cleansers and moisturizers and all the other products are equally amazing!
I got a sample somehow of the Laniege and was VERY impressed. It was so light, dewy and made my skin look like porcelain. After this video, I am buying the full size. I love your videos, Lisa. They are so relaxing, informative and genuine.
apparently korean skincare is about 9 years ahead of western skincare! i've been getting into a lot of korean skincare and make up products lately due to the immaculate skin all korean people seem to have in dramas and such, and seriously, i'm never going back. thankfully i live in hk so korean products aren't that hard (nor expensive) to get my hands on. korean products are really no joke, and i have oily/blemished skin that i thought wouldn't go well with watery/glowy/moisturising korean products.
I love how Korean take care of their skin and their makeup on is Perfection! No strong eyeliner,no HD brows, no contouring, just perfected skin.thanks for the Video, Lisa! Much Love =)
I think its so refreshing seeing a different diversity of makeup! I'm scared how much money I'm going to end up spending on beauty products when I visit Seoul this year! hahah
When I first subscribed to you on UA-cam, I actually thought about asking you to cover Korean beauty trends because that was very big on UA-cam at the time (at least in my subscription feeds), but then I thought that you'd probably not do a video on that for some reason. I'm so glad you did this! You're my hero! ♥
Lisa, thank you so much for sharing your trip and experiences in Korea. I really enjoyed learning about a beauty culture that is different from my own. It definitely is intellectually stimulating to think about how/why we do make-up, what it says about us or our values, and why we emphasize or focus on certain characteristics...it's really just exciting, fascinating, amazing, so on... Thank you, thank you!
i love this! I love Korean cosmetics, in my opinion I think they're better than the ones they sell in the UK. You should also see K-Pop stars makeup look, they tend to have bold and dramatic eyeliner looks which I really love too :)
I love your videos and the passion you have for makeup. But what I really love is your spirit. You have such a positive aura about you and that's so refreshing for youtube!
I am a Canadian English teacher living in Korea, and let me tell you, EVERYONE in Korea is very in tune with the beauty trends that come and go very quickly here. One of my 10-year-old boy students noticed when my Korean co-teacher decided not to do her tight-liner one day that she happened to be in a hurry coming to work, hahaha.
Gosh! You look so youthful in this video! The Korean look works well for you! Very beautiful. Please keep up these types of videos! I love love love learning about different cultures and your story telling is superb!
I would love to see trends like this start to come into Western makeup. I'm so over the Kim K/drag queen contouring and highlighting and Instagram brows. Makeup has gotten way too heavy, it's really nice to see something so light and refreshing
I love that she is applying alot of the makeup with her fingers.I would love to use all the different types of brushes but they can be really expensive. Its nice to see a beautiful look look this with some of the products applied by hand.
Omg it's so funny when you're saying that the eyeliner is really subtle and then I think of CL who wears it basically instead of eyeshadow XD loved this tutorial Ho it was awesome
You are simply amazing! I get so inspired while learning so much from you every time I watch one of your videos. This is very true to what is popular, or trendy, in Asia.
It kinda killed me seeing you spread on the foundation instead of patting it on. Overall I love the look. I'm American and I'm in love with Korea. I'm always trying the Korean make up look but it always looked weird on me. I think I'll try this one out and see how it goes. :)
Well the difference is if you pat it on you get much fuller coverage. So if you spread it it goes on more sheer. Neither of the methods are more correct than the other, it depends on the coverage you're going for
+kitteh131 yes but she's introducing the Korean style and getting a tiny tiny amount and really patting it all over the face, if you want more coverage then there would be the second layer. This is THE Korean trend for the past two years. So it could have been nice if the Korean style applying method was introduced:)
Korean make-up is absolutely the best. I am from Germany and I watched many dramas online and Korean beauty tips videos on UA-cam. This way I saw the brands etude and innisfree. They are absolutely tremendously amazing. In November 2014 I have ordered online at etude and innisfree. I was really crazy cause I bought about 130 dollar products each. It was mostly about skin care like their mask and creams or they fantastic products against blemishes and make up like the 101 pencils mascara,up products or cushions. They are absolutely amazing. I could never stop talking about their products. Enclosed the UA-cam channel that I watched: insitetv. The videos are from ponys beauty diary.
I am commenting after 7 years and just have to say… I am so happy you are interested and inspired by makeup from different culture and time periods! you are a true artist
the frosted blue and peach look so good together :) i love it! i wish cushion products were available in the US> none of the common brands (i.e Sephora brands and specialty stores) have them hear. So need to go to Korea :D wait now, maybe i can go check out Korea town, Los Angeles! I can try!
I just wanted to say that I loved this video! Even though I am not Korean, I found everything fascinating and love how you embrace such a wide variety of trends! You've made me want to travel to Korea and try all their products for myself :)
And another video that taught me so much about the diversity of makeup. You're a legend Lisa! ♡
I agree!
Nikkie. I watch you and heard you say that your dream would be to work with Lisa! I love seeing that you're a Lisa Groupie like some of us. Hahahaha. Lisa is amazing and so generous to share. You're wonderful too. I love your vids!!! 😘😘😘😘.
I love that she doesn't elevate one culture over another, but highlights the beauty each has to offer.
dee doc I love that too! :D
I like that you don't put on a bunch of fake lashes in your tutorials, it's so much more relatable to every day wear!
Hi I am from Australia could you please tell me the best place to purchase Korean Makeup? I heard that Hera was very good too!
Same here, I feel a bit overwhelmed by the trend of contouring and super drawn eyebrows, not really my style either!
The jingle her rings make when she pats a product in is so satisfying lol
I always prefer a glowy looking skin! It looks much healthier and always makes you look younger. Specially when you are in your late 30's, you don't want to have a matte finish! It makes your skin so opaque and tired! Thanks for posting Lisa, amazing as usual.
This video is so educational to those who aren't familiar with Korean makeup. I love it. Please keep doing makeup tutorials. I learn sooooooo much from you😄😄
I had such a great time talking to all the Korean girls in Seoul about their beauty routines and make-up favourites. Loved it! X
Lisa Eldridge Could you do a Korean makeup look on an East Asian model? I would really love to see how to flatter skin and eyes like mine (and also where to find the right shades in the US)
Lisa Eldridge thank you so much for this video and even using Korean words for make up such as Gwang(radiant!) Love ♥
I'm Korean and I love the respect and attention to detail Lisa brings when she talks about Korean makeup :)
Hello, do you know a website to order? Thanks 😊
I ordered mine off Amazon but ibuybeauti sells it too if you want a more reliable source!
cassispie This blog has a list of stores in it:
www.skinandtonics.com/asian-skin-care-guide/
cassispie Amorepacific has a cushin foundation, it's sold on Sephora.
I got a sample of the Laneige cushion BB cream in my ipsy bag and loooved it. They sell it at Target now for anyone who is interested!
I love how excited she is when talking about the new makeup that she discover in Korea, kind of like how I feel when I open a packet of new flavor chips:P
loll
Yup got mine at target too!
Thank you!!
I hope Laneige expands their shade selection. For now, I use Amore Pacific's version for now.
GoodandDelicious That's true for pretty much for all of Asia. Pale skin is a symbol of beauty and wealth while tanned skin means you work outside (meaning you are poor).
Lisa! Your skin looked absolutely heavenly, even before the makeup, I'd love to see an updated skin care routine! :)
Oh thanks, I thought I was looking a bit red (its freezing cold her in the UK!) ... thank you for the compliment X
Positively radiant! XO
The dewy look is pronounced gwang (goo-ong the g and the EW in dew and the ong in gong)
Also, the actress that you were talking about is named: Jeon Ji Hyun (pronounced jun-jee-hyun) from the drama, My love from another star.
A makeup Rec is the eyebrow mascaras that first debuted with etude house. We Koreans tend to like a natural eyebrow look so we prefer to coat the hairs of the brows to fake thicker brows rather than drawing them in. Or powder, since it looks more natural to the eye because it avoids harsh lines.
her english name is gianna. just fyi
Well.... She is a very experienced make up artist...
Thank you for educating us about these matters, I appreciate it :-))
VERY experienced.
So, you wouldn't use a tool from the cushion to your face? The sponge looks so sunk into the packaging! Wouldn't that be bad for bacteria? I'm so curious about cushions now!
I love the Korean style. Its focused on this incredibly youthful look. It's so refreshing and inspiring! X
Many many thanks,
Xoxo
Congratulations!!! That is so great to hear. Thank you for taking the time to comment X
Personally, daily makeup=asian makeup and night/party/special occasion=western makeup is a good balance :)
i love that you keep up with makeup trends outside of your horizon. You are so universally knowledged it's wonderful learning these things from you!
GO WATCH 'MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR' IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT THE FASHION AND MAKEUP IS LITERALLY FLAWLESS
I'm totally going to watch it tonight! Can't wait to see the makeup :)
Yes You who came from the stars has great fashion and Jun Ji hyun's makeup was great!
Lisa + Korean Makeup = HEAVEN
What a beautiful look! Can you do a video about Korean skincare? They're so big over there on beautiful luminous skin and their makeup really enhances that. Are there any skincare lines you'd recommend?
I love the korean makeup trend and it's so fun to see more and more makeup artists try it out. I saving all my money for a future trip to korea.
I love dewy make up and I dont even mind if it looks oily. Matte finish is overrated.
You don't have oily skin...you wouldn't say that if you had my skin type.
+Marlyn Smith (Mar) I used to have oily/problematic skin but after I stoppped applying tons of powder it got a lot better (not completely oil free but make up with a nice, healthy glow). I highly recommend to try it ! :D
Marlyn Smith
I used to have oily skin as a teenager but overdid it with strong peelings etc now I have the opposite problem so I know both. Believe me oily skin is a blessing compared to dry one and your skin will stay youthful longer
I don't wear makeup, it basically runs down my face in like two hours. There is something to be said about younger looking skin. That's very true. :)
Marlyn Smith
Really? Even matte powder though?
lisa thanks, really this is a breath of fresh air among all those tutorials with highly contoured face, exaggerated illuminator, crazy eyebrows, and tons of makeup that make you look cake face, this is great I hope this kind of makeup become fashionable in more parts of the world, I love it , and if not use Korean makeup because is very hard to get where i live at least i will try to recreate it with my own makeup
I had no idea the Korean word for "light/glow" sounds exactly like the Mandarin Chinese word for "light/glow"! :D
I'm sooo happy you did a Korean-inspired look!
Oh and you should totally check out Jung Saem Mool on UA-cam! Her and her team of makeup artists are amazing! :)
Amy He THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm Japanese American, and all the asian beauty vloggers I follow just do western makeup on east asian faces.
23cokebottles Right? I tried to look up makeup tutorials but I know only a few of the ones that popped up would help.
YASS!! A splendid idea!
I love your videos! Not only are you teaching us about korean makeup you are also teaching us about their culture which is refreshing!
That mascara is unbelievable.
this is literally my dream kind of makeup, so fed up with everyone's dramatic contouring and this is just so refreshing. also, really hoping the cushion compact styles make their way over here look so good!!
You're a breath of fresh air amongst all this Instagram cake face! Love you!
Your technique is just so refreshing, Lisa
I absolutely watching all your videos. Learned so much techniques and found so many good products. I appreciate you creating these videos. :)
I just wanted to let you know, for the cushion foundation, the best way to apply is not gently smoothing out with the applicator but tap the skin. :) it allows you to have more mulgwang! :)
Being a Korean and seeing a fantastic makeup artist to do korean inspired makeup makes me feel so happy :) thanks Lisa for your great work!
I absolutely love**** got little too excited. Lol
I was amazed by how you accurately described the makeup trends in Korea. It really shows you put a lot of effort in!
My favorite artist doing my favorite type of makeup.
I need a moment to thank the heavens.
I REALLY enjoy hearing about how various cultures (and different times in history) do makeup - so THANK YOU!
I love allllll korean products! my fave is from etude house
LOVED that store! X
I love the Etude House hand creams! They come in such cute packagings ^_^
I am SO addicted to Etude House you have no idea! Walked in and came out with a canvas bag full of makeup and fragrance things!
Melanie Teruya Tell me about it! lol X
omg, Lisa Eldridge on my post *---* i saw u in a tv program and i said to my mom "ohhh i know who is her! she has a channel in youtube and i follow her" hahahha
Hi Lisa, will you be doing the Japanese beauty trend inspired make up? I would love to see the difference between the Korean and Japanese ones!
You are wonderful, Lisa. Not only do I admire your expertise in makeup, but also your respect for different cultures and different approaches. Congratulations on your new job, thanks for being wonderful! Xx
Fascinating! Can't help but wonder if you'll incorporate some of the style and technology you found in Korea into upcoming Lancôme launches!
My thought exactly !!!
konkaboti403 maybe that's why she was in Korea?
Oooo micapetey you just BLEW my mind!!! :-)))
And YASS Nay that would make so much sense!! Ooo lotsa of interesting things happening with our dear Lisa!
is it weird that you make me so calm? your voice and tehnique is so relaxing!
Hi! Lisa
i'm korean university student.
Your video is cool!
i want to tell you how to use the air cushion puff!
The puff is to use by tapping to skin!
But your technique is fine too.
Thank you for your interest about korean😁
Tapping makes more 'mul gwang' skin!!
THANK YOU for highlighting Korean cosmetics! I had a Korean friend in middle school and her female relatives always had flawless, dewy skin. I regret not asking what brands they used! I can't wait to see more regional cosmetic trend videos from you! :D
i think korean makeup is about looking youthful and healthy, thats why they rave about dewyness
So amazing to see and learn about popular makeup trends and application from different cultures and countries. I think in general we tend to only give importance to our own cultures and forget that there is a whole world out there. Amazing video Lisa!
it's so healthy looking ! :O
This video was so interesting, Lisa - loved every second of it. And the make-up look is gorgeous!
IOPE is pronounce eye-oh-pay by the way :)
thanks! good to know x
Great to see a british youtuber into korean fashion and k-beauty :D I hope you had a nice time in Korea,i visited myself too i went to seoul and i got so many cute products especially from Etude house, tonymoly, holika holika,i really want to try Innisfree and Banilla co though ^-^ You should watch some korean dramas too they are amazing xx
aww i never thought i’d see a korean inspired look on your channel! thank you for spreading korean makeup trends around :) one thing though, the cushion foundations are supposed to be tapped onto the skin with the puff rather than smoothed onto the skin in brush-like strokes. i absolutely loved this video and thoroughly enjoyed it! xx
korean dramas are so good and My Love From The Star is amazing!
I think it's better if you pat the product on rather than swiping.
I'm scared how much money I'm going to end up spending on beauty products when I visit Seoul this year! hahah
Its such a joy to see you be so excited about your new makeup. I love it!
I feel like this makeup routine is also like a tween/teenage routine. Very light, not heavy and basic and simple.
have you seen the makeup 12 year olds wear now it is for sure not basic and simple
+Taekook I dunno what 12 year olds your around, but no, I know no tweens who wear heavy makeup, their parents don't let them.
Many 12 to 16 year old girls in NYC, LA and Chicago are so into contouring and heavy foundations lol
that mascara is sooooooo beautiful i need one. its fence the lashes soooooo beautiful
I love it! What was the word you were using to define the Korean way of having a dewy look, again?
gwan
Guang...
It's so refreshing that you're diversifying your makeup collection and knowledge!
i love this! I love Korean cosmetics, in my opinion I think they're better than the ones they sell in the UK.
You should also see K-Pop stars makeup look, they tend to have bold and dramatic eyeliner looks which I really love too :)
Yes i know their look, its fun X
YeolDaFire most of koreans tend to have subtle eyeliner to get more natural-looking look.
feels like heaven watching this. if i feel sad and bored i just sit and watch all ur videos and i feel heaven.
korea haul please x
I wish Lisa did hauls, but my bank account would be empty, as I try to buy everything she uses lol!
Love this simple makeup! Additional features of Korean makeup look include straight eyebrows shape and tear drops liner.
So I guess its all about looking young and fresh over there, I love!
Yes the straight, full brows and lips without the hard edge/outline is all about looking youthful : ) X
You are simply amazing! I get so inspired while learning so much from you every time I watch one of your videos. This is very true to what is popular, or trendy, in Asia.
Did you get to meet Jung Saem-Mool? She seems to be the big Korean makeup artist on youtube.
Wow!! Aside from the gradient effect on the lips, this is pretty much my every day look! Love it!!
It kinda killed me seeing you spread on the foundation instead of patting it on. Overall I love the look. I'm American and I'm in love with Korea. I'm always trying the Korean make up look but it always looked weird on me. I think I'll try this one out and see how it goes. :)
lol yes! that bugged me too. i wanted her to pat the foundation on! lol
+Katherine Young She kind of knows what she's doing, though...
+JenKwon86 which is why it's "inspired by". I usually take that to mean that the person taking the inspiration can put their own spin on it. :)
I'm Korean and I've never expected this kind of video from you! I'm really chuffed!
So need to go to Korea :D
wait now, maybe i can go check out Korea town, Los Angeles! I can try!
they have them online and my favorite shop is w2beauty! :) (w2beauty.com/?s=21273108) alice(owner) is a sweetheart
***** thanks Sophie :D did you see that Moonshot will post an English website in Feb? so excited!!!
Oh really? That's so exciting! I honestly haven't tried any of their products so I'm really thrilled to know that!!:D
I just wanted to say that I loved this video! Even though I am not Korean, I found everything fascinating and love how you embrace such a wide variety of trends! You've made me want to travel to Korea and try all their products for myself :)
