People do not realize what they would have lost without a three hour Raw. In a two hour show, The New Day, Alpha Academy, Wyatt Sicks/American Made segments would likely be getting cut more often.
It’s a fixable issue though, they can cycle out talent and have a rotation of stars getting screen time. We don’t need everyone on TV every week. Smackdown hasn’t had that issue at 2 hours as it is. If the argument is Raw’s roster is too big, send some of them to Smackdown and even it out, let some people go who absolutely aren’t in future plans. It’s not my job to be creative and figure it out for them, but the solution to a big roster isn’t to add more time
I think SD going to 3 hours is a good thing overall. It will give opportunities for stories to get fleshed out, additional opportunities for more wrestlers (old and upcoming new hires), and treat raw and sd as equals.
It feels like a USA move more so than a WWE move. With Raw leaving the network, they wanna keep that 3 hour block for ad space and revenue and what not. I get it I guess but man, Smackdown is so mid right now 😂
Don't you think it means they will focus on Smackdown more? Maybe bring a few exciting NXT talents into Smackdown. You say its so mid, but if they have a show with Cody/Roman/Bloodline/Trick/Oba Femi/Charlotte Flair/Tiff/Usos and so many others wouldn't that be a great show? They have the ability to decide to push forward the same way they did with Bron/Bronson/Braun/Judgment Day/New Day and the other talents getting shine on 3 hour Raw
As RAW showed, 3 hours is only bad if it’s a bad three hours, a good three hour show can breeze by, and with the chance to let more things breathe and get more talent on, I’m willing to see it out
I don't see how it's a bad idea. RAW being 3 hours means soooooooooo many more talents are featured compared to SmackDown. It could be either show goes 3 hours or we bring back some Attitude Era booking with 3 minute matches followed by car crash TV or whatever Russo called it.
I mean, Smackdown is currently mostly mid in its two hour form, so I would focus on getting the two hour show working first before you add another hour to it.
@@gerryzink3176 I think a reason it feels that way is the pacing. Cody, KO, Randy, Bloodline, Nia and Tiffy, Bianca and Jade if they aren't busy on RAW, and then whoever else they can fit. If there's the extra time they could fit more on. A 2 hour show with commercials is 1 hour and 25ish? A 3 hour show is just over 2 hours I think. Less risk of time and segments being cut I'd say.
I disagree actually. I think its a great idea. Theres so many talents, and even titles that gst very under utilized, so nore TV time makes sense to do something with them, especially with most PLE csrds being 5 matches. It would actually give room for midcard women's titles, more space for non titke feuds. And having stories and feuds that play out entirely on weekly TV and never touch PLEs isnt a bad thing. It gives more of a reason to actually watch the weekly shows. Example being Bronson Reed abd Braun Strowman. Probably not going to get a PLE match, but every week we're wanting to see them brawl and what will happen next. Or rhe Carmello/Andrade series we just had.
I mostly think they should use it to give matches more time. Like if AEW can air a near 60-minute match on a 2-hour program then there is NO REASON why WWE shouldn't have longer matches on a 3-hour program
If Roman is going to be appearing on more smackdowns for the time being and then when we have the Rock coming back next year we are going to need the extra hour just for the entrances.
While objectively, the idea of 3-hour SmackDown can be exhausting. I feel like we're omitting the fact that things are changing behind the scenes, and we might be dealing with a situation that is beyond WWE's control. There's already been reports that they are planning to cut down on their house shows, which is where a lot of people who don't get featured on TV make their money. So if they're not performing on House shows and they're not on tv, then what's to stop them from getting cut? And then we start running into that situation where we cut too much of the roster and end up where we were a few years ago during the pandemic. Also obviously this decision for 3 hours Smackdown is coming from USA. They want a 3-hour show and if WWE doesn't give it to them it could affect the deals in place for both Raw and SmackDown for the end of the year.
Yeah, Lucha Bro's just got signed, AJ Styles is on the sidelines without a storyline and would be taking up time from younger talent, Randy & KO can't get any momentum with lack of time, Cody is STILL tied up to the BL because there is no time for him to build up a solid feud
I think it's a good idea for three hours of SD. It gives more TV time to the roaster, and it will make get more stories time to breathe. RAW is killing it with 3 hours right now, and the ladies have more time to shine there. It's also the same creative team that's doing SD.
WWE has a lot of wrestlers and not enough TV time. 3 hours of Smackdown is good. Remember this isnt the Vince era anymore. The New Day storyline that’s going on right now. Not possible without a 3 hour show where it has the time. Roxanne is getting called up, Ray Fenix and Penta are coming to main roster, talent shift in and out all the time, nothing wrong with extra time for more stories.
Isn't this a good thing? I thought people whine all the time about how WWE and AEW don't let their stories breathe. Yet people get upset when those shows add content. People also complain when workers get fired or released, but they also want WWE and AEW to cut down on content hours. Can't have both. I do wish Smackdown wasn't on Friday however, i miss episodes occasionally if Friends want to hang out.
The Over the Edge thing was such a gray area. Some people there believed the show much go on and some thought they should stop the show. There was no good answer.
Hot take?? Smackdown for 3 hours in January is a GREAT idea. We know the Bloodline story will pick up with Rock, etc. Having three hours will actually let that storyline breathe and have multiple segments across a show.......added emphesis on the tag division and maybe womens midcard and you have a breezy three hours. I'll let HHH cook with this.
I’ve always enjoyed how quickly an episode of Smackdown flows when it’s going well. On a Friday I can come home, watch from 5-7pm and then go do whatever I want with my Friday night. Not sure I want to sit there for 3 hours
Selfishly, I'm down for SD being 3 hours. I just love nothing more than numbing my brain by watching wrestling, and if I can numb my brain for a little bit longer than usual, so be it. I'm probably 1 of like 4 people total that probably wants 6 hours of weekly main roster programming. Fuck it, give me a 3rd hour of NXT too, idgaf
WWE is a kid-friendly product, so it is shown on Fridays when children do not have school on Saturdays. They like to stay up and watch their favorite show. WWE knows what they are doing.
I think it’s a great idea. This will give HHH more time to actually pay attention ti character development and we’ll have time for those backstage segments that set up better character dynamics between characters
Its easy for people to look back and be saying things like they can't believe Vince didn't cancel the show after Owen passed and that they would have without hesitation because they are the better person... but it really isn't as cut and dried as that. In a little over a year and a half prior to the Owen Hart accident there were four times at wrestling shows where the fans got in to a riot/near riot frenzy where the arenas were tore up, mass fighting broke out, fans were injured and police came and made arrests... and another 4-5 from concerts and other events. If Vince had just come down to the ring and all he said was that they had to cancel the show then it probably would have led to another riot-like incident... if he actually explained why, that Owen Hart had died, there is a chance it could have gone even worse. As far as making a decision goes, it wouldn't surprise me if "Do we cancel the show or not?" was the toughest decision Vince made in his entire life... and we will never know how it could have gone, but it was most likely the right decision.
Two hours is long enough to get what you need and, and let us go away happy. It’s like the guy at the party telling hilarious jokes and he just won’t stop.
It’s good because it gives alot of wrestlers more time to shine especially the women’s division on smackdown as well as so many wrestlers who barely get tv time remember Candice and Indy non existent the 3 hours to smack down. Could give opportunities to more talent I think that’s fair
Smackdown Underground for the third hour, let's goooo 😆 (I think in all fairness Triple H was laying all his chips on big payoffs at WM this year; similarly when Raw's A story with the Judgement Day civil war has its big payoff probably at War Games, we might see that show go into its own rebuilding phase)
Y’all say this but I remember the backlash to Raw being 3 hours. “Too long can’t watch it” but now it “needs” that extra hour to showcase their talent… as if smackdown doesn’t need that? SD will get better and then we’ll all be saying “Smackdown needs that third hour!!!” And the cycle will continue.
Though the angle is great, Smackdown has been dedicating 45 minutes to an hour to the Bloodline, Roman's entrance has taken 15 minutes in the past, and the new regime likes to include video recaps to help the audience keep up with stories. Apollo, Corbin, Vinci, Davenport, etc deserve a chance to get over. You can't maximize minutes you're not given.
As it pertains to the Owen thing, they just could've faked something like the lights going out and just said due to technical difficulties they were stopping the show or something similar. But, that's in hindsight. I'm not sure that I would've been in the head space to make a rational decision if I was one of the performers or crew in that situation.
I stream both Smackdown and Raw about an hour after the live shows start. For both, I skim or outright skip the chaff. The overall length of the shows is kind of irrelevant to my own viewing experience. I think a lot of viewers are in the same boat nowadays. Each week is a good to great show when you can be your own editor.
As a viewer, I personally much prefer a 2 hour experience compared to a 3 hour one every week. It's just easier to consume. Give me 2 hours of the best jam-packed shit they can fit and I'm set. That's just me though
More time for Corbin, Apollo, Nakamura, and others. More emphasis on the tag division and potential IC title are obvious pros. 3 hrs though will drag though with no Roman along with Cody because Raw has Gunther, Punk, Seth, Drew, Bron Breaker, Jey Uso, and others like Sami Zayn at times that are over and can be world champions. SD heel/main event scene isn’t sufficient enough.
I'm a bit torn. three hours of already struggling SmackDown could just make it worse. but it could also compel them to try harder in all stories, not just the Bloodline and Women's Championship.
I look at NXT and I see what they can do with 2 hours. I always think why cant Smackdown do this? But then main roster should have longer matches and more time for segments and audience interactions. I do think Smackdown should be able to accomplish this while highlighting all divisions and developing midcard and non title feuds in 2 hours. But when the bloodline is involved everything takes a LOT more time. When the Rock shows up again its gonna need three hours.
The only one I disagreed with Steve on was Goldberg coming back. As a huge fan of ko and bray, him squashing them both was just shitty. Brock and Goldberg did not need the title to be a big match. Goldberg coming back for me, bad idea.
I understand why some may like this but some are saying 3 hours is necessary for a wrestling show nowadays which isn’t true, wwe just moves their shows at a slow pace, they could easily find time for everyone on the show in 2 hours if they paced the show differently and sped up the entrances
Ive been saying this for yearrs that raw should be 2 hours and smackdown 3 because people work on Monday and can't reasonably stay up to 11 on monday night while friday you have the weekend
I still think Raw on Netflix won't be a fixed run time. If smackdown really goes 3 hours. They need a draft by next yr to balance out the rosters. Trim the fat. Send them to nxt too.
TERRIBLE idea to go to 3 hours. I'm tired even just thinking about it. Smackdown has already been pretty... boring a lot of the time recently... and they want ANOTHER HOUR?! 😫
The USA network is losing 5 hours of WWE programming so the fact anyone would be surprised that the one show they do have they want to get the most out of
No need for an additional hour for the "Blue Brand". Like you said, SD hasn't been very good the past several months. Worry about making the 2 hours you have better rather than finding crap to fill a 3rd hour. There's some Wrestle Juice engagement for ya.
I do not get why wwe doing this? Why is Raw dropping to 2 hours in Oct to only jump back to 3 when jump to Netflix? Then Smackdown jumps 3 hours in Jan? This is just viewership whiplash.
3 hour shows is alot of wrestling to watch and has a tendency to make you care less about things that are less interesting. But at the same time its giving talent more screentime and opportunity.
3 hour Smackdown... that's what makes Smackdown good is that it IS 2 hours! atleast Netflix on Raw will be commerical free... i hope. who knows! there's gunna be sum lackluster shows coming up when it isn't going good. well just have to see.
There still will be commercials on raw it was already said they are gonna integrate commercials into live television which raw will be so even with a no commercial plan there will be some
If RAW is going to streaming why does it have to be the same hour amount each week. Have it start at the same time and have it run between 2 and 3 hours
Continuing the show after Owen fell, is literally the number one worst idea ever in the history of WWE. Every person I’ve ever told about this instantly has a look of disgust and thinks of WWE in a negative light after hearing this.
Personally I don't watch any wrestling live I wait till it's at least an hour into my DVR recording before I start it so I can skip commercials and any nonsensical bs
Everyone keeps saying that more talent will be featured. What world are you living in? This just means that the wrestlers who are "hot" will be featured in more segments. See the Judgement Day as a perfect example. 3 hours didn't allow for more talent to be featured during these past spring and summer months. It just meant that the Judgement Day had 3 or 4 segments. Ditto for the Bloodline. I feel like people who want 3 hours are young people who never lived in a time when 2 hours was more than enough time for Raw/Smackdown.
If you actually time the actual matches and promos compared to commercials for a 3 hour show compared to a 2 hour show, you’ll see you don’t get a full extra hour of product during a 3 hour show. More commercials and filler to fill the time.
Thank you! This is a really dumb idea. Why?! If anything Raw should be permanently brought down to 2hrs. 3hrs a week on one show is too long. Smacked has already felt like most of it is filler this would only further compound the issue.
Smackdown can barely fill 2 hours with watchable content, how are they going to fill 3? How long are Andrade and Carmelo supposed to wrestle every week?
Once they found out that Owen died, you have to stop the show. The death in the ring effectively has become a crime scene and must be immediately investigated as you don't wany evidence to be compromised. The people's entertainment or the worry about hearing about what happened is ultimately irrelevant. They should have been evacuated.
I love 3 hours for stars. yall are babys. you don't have to watch all 3 hours and we can watch anything at our own pace now, rewind fast forward etc. grow up with your tik tok attention spams. 😂
It’s gonna be a monkeys paw. Yeah more guys get time but it’s gonna be slower to fit 3 hours. Yeah you have a good match here or there but the casual is just not watch all of it or watch clips than the show
3 hour SmackDown is a bad idea and I don't understand why people who hate Raw being 3 hours suddenly want the same thing for SmackDown. An extra hour means 8 hours every week for anyone who watches WWE and over 12 when there's a PLE. The brand split is a good idea only when you have separate PPVs/PLEs. Without that there's no point of having two or more of anything except mid card titles and Triple H proves that by only having 5 matches on every PLE card. Both because it was for the Undisputed Championship however the storyline could have been a lot better. On top of that a once in a lifetime generation vs generation match like The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan is a must see that definitely should have main evented a big PPV like WrestleMania. Good idea at first, the problem was giving Goldberg the Universal Championship just so he can lose it to Brock Lesnar. A mistake WWE made 3 years later when Goldberg won the title from Bray Wyatt just to drop it to Braun Strowman because COVID stopped Roman Reigns from competing.
My guy, for real I don’t want to come across as disrespectful but is GIR now going back towards a Fed/Vince bad type of content weekly. I’ve been really enjoying your shit lately (last 6 months) but over the last couple weeks seems to be straying back into the pandering to the IWC type thing. Completely get why you have to do that and I’m not knocking you for it but I just wanna know so I can decide whether I’m gonna listen on the regs. Big love to you guys as ever x
@@edwardcoulden1432 oh it’s all good feel free to explore other channels, no offense taken. I can only tell you we’re always as honest as we can be. Smackdown is a bit mid, which is why I don’t feel three hours is a good idea. But I can’t tell you what you want to hear so by all means there’s a world of content out there go enjoy!
Brand split is a bad idea. 1) The brand split doesn't exist right now...people randomly cross brands sometimes for good reasons (Orton) sometimes for no reason (a SD tag team was on the same show where Orton appeared for no reason...can't remember which). 2) Brand split limits your options in a bad way. SD lacking heels...immediately fixed. Tag division or womens division is light on one brand? immediately fixed. Too many titles because of brand split...immediately fixed. 3) No brand split doesn't mean talent float constantly among shows. See AEW. No brand split but talent find a general home. The only way no brand split is a bad idea is if your booking sucks along side of it. If we get 5 judgment day segments every Raw and SD for months on end people may burn out on them too quickly. I'd argue we already get too much on Raw alone.
People do not realize what they would have lost without a three hour Raw. In a two hour show, The New Day, Alpha Academy, Wyatt Sicks/American Made segments would likely be getting cut more often.

SD heel/main event scene isn’t sufficient enough.
Steve Here, i told you 3 hour Smackdown. I guess i was a little off when i saw it with when it started
It doesn't bother me since I usually play games or clean while watching Raw and Smackdown lol
What do you mean its a bad idea? Havent you heard WRESTLING IS COOL AGAIN! We are in a Renaissance Era! How could this be bad thing? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Noooooooooo! 😂
Isn’t RAW 3 hours but we only see @43min/hour due to commercials. Will that change on Netflix ?
Bad news they struggle to keep 2 hours interesting every week
Good idea because Bloodline take so much time and I want to see more LA Knight get more time to work
I'm a bit torn. three hours of already struggling SmackDown could just make it worse. but it could also compel them to try harder in all stories, not just the Bloodline and Women's Championship.
NXT has short promos and short matches. NXT and Smackdown have two very different purposes. Smackdown needs to be more like Raw, not NXT.
Well see how things go
The nfl stopped a important game for the playoffs for a potential death
As long as we see more of the wwe champion it will be worth it, now they have no excuse to not give cody a 20-30 min segment
I still think Raw on Netflix won't be a fixed run time. If smackdown really goes 3 hours. They need a draft by next yr to balance out the rosters. Trim the fat. Send them to nxt too.
A video released at midnight MF Steve here??
SD has aj styles and nakamura in catering
TERRIBLE idea to go to 3 hours. I'm tired even just thinking about it. Smackdown has already been pretty... boring a lot of the time recently... and they want ANOTHER HOUR?! 😫
Why would they do this to us 🤣
Definitely Nick Kahn thing
But they just moved to the USA Network and last week wasn't boring
Then don't watch.
Wake up karen
The USA network is losing 5 hours of WWE programming so the fact anyone would be surprised that the one show they do have they want to get the most out of
No need for an additional hour for the "Blue Brand". Like you said, SD hasn't been very good the past several months. Worry about making the 2 hours you have better rather than finding crap to fill a 3rd hour. There's some Wrestle Juice engagement for ya.
It's a "makes sense to me" idea 🤷🏿♂️
Seeing people rejoice about another 3 hour show made me mildly concerned 😂
I do not get why wwe doing this? Why is Raw dropping to 2 hours in Oct to only jump back to 3 when jump to Netflix? Then Smackdown jumps 3 hours in Jan? This is just viewership whiplash.
Bad bad bad idea
I’m fine with Smack Sown going to three hours. 🤣
3 hour shows is alot of wrestling to watch and has a tendency to make you care less about things that are less interesting. But at the same time its giving talent more screentime and opportunity.
3 hour Smackdown... that's what makes Smackdown good is that it IS 2 hours! atleast Netflix on Raw will be commerical free... i hope. who knows! there's gunna be sum lackluster shows coming up when it isn't going good. well just have to see.
oh I didn't know RAW was getting cut to 2 hours.. thats good. so I'm guessing the Brand Split will still be in order then?? ugh I hate the DRAFT
I think the going rumor is Raw is still gonna have commercials on Netflix
There still will be commercials on raw it was already said they are gonna integrate commercials into live television which raw will be so even with a no commercial plan there will be some
Hey I hear you might need a notes guy for a three hour show 😂
Oh shit we probably do now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
12:13 "I prefer, the harder the better" -SteveHere 2024
3 hour show=more wrestling=good
It isn’t that hard to figure out
If you actually time the actual matches and promos compared to commercials for a 3 hour show compared to a 2 hour show, you’ll see you don’t get a full extra hour of product during a 3 hour show. More commercials and filler to fill the time.
Thank you! This is a really dumb idea. Why?! If anything Raw should be permanently brought down to 2hrs. 3hrs a week on one show is too long. Smacked has already felt like most of it is filler this would only further compound the issue.
It won't be 3 hours. It will be 2hrs 10 minutes like raw
Still a three hour viewing experience.
@WrestleJuice why is it? They are all 2hrs 10 minutes no where near 3 hours
Friendo
Some of yall so weird, yall like a product but want less air time for it 😂
Raw isn't smackdown
I love 3 hours for stars. yall are babys. you don't have to watch all 3 hours and we can watch anything at our own pace now, rewind fast forward etc. grow up with your tik tok attention spams. 😂
W decision
It’s gonna be a monkeys paw. Yeah more guys get time but it’s gonna be slower to fit 3 hours. Yeah you have a good match here or there but the casual is just not watch all of it or watch clips than the show
going out and doing...DRUGS?
DRUGS
LOLBLAMEUSA
Your wrong but it's okay for you to be wrong. lol
It would be disingenuous for me to be like oh yeah I’m gonna love everything wwe or whatever. If you watch our raw review you’ll know I love what they’re doing there now. Smackdown is a bit mid, which is why I don’t feel three hours is a good idea. But I can’t tell you what you want to hear so by all means there’s a world of content out there go enjoy!
@@WrestleJuice top notch mate x
Three hours on a Friday Night is a bad idea. The third hour is almost always a chore.
3 hours on a Friday night is a huge ask.
Gave up on Raw years ago when it went to 3 hrs. Thank God for highlights.
EXACTLY. In an age of twitter and youtube most people do not sit there and watch 3 hours of show. They watch the clips online.
