Mine behaved exactly like this. The cause turned out to be stretch in the timing chain. I advanced the injection pump timing, which entirely solved the smoke issue and returned the engine to normal.
My ‘84 K2500 diesel (bought new, now at 275,000 miles), recently started blowing some white smoke. Turned out to be a faulty thermostat. I replaced the thermostat with a Gates 190 degree and the smoke stopped.
Go through all of your fuel lines make sure there is no leaks those rubber lines will break down after a while. You can run a clear hose off the injection pump to see if you have air in the system. Usually will be no fuel in the hose when it sits if there is a small leak even the slightest leak
It comes down to two things 1. Head gasket on driver side is bad or the timing of the injectors outing fuel in piston at wrong time and comes out as smoke. In my book it says blue smoke is caused by unburned fuel
I got one that doesn't smoke on start but going up a steep hills at higher rps blueish smoke starts coming out the passenger side pipe first then driver side what do you think it is
I’m pretty sure you have a cracked ring on the drivers side bank. The one side smoke is a dead giveaway. I had a 454 that did the same thing. Smoked real bad out of the passenger side. Did a compression test and saw that cylinders 4 and 6 had a low reading.
That smoke must have smelled good, delicious. Too bad it was so little, it could have been a lot more. And as long as it smells so good, the amount of poison doesn't matter a damn, as long as it comes out and a lot!
Did you fix it? Am thnking of buying a 6.2 step van that smokes like that and wondering what the problems could be heard of bad fuel, fuel filter, injectors, headgaskets, etc.

I'd do a compression test and make sure you're not throwing parts at a bad motor. I would keep the 6.2 but i'm an IDI fan.
I am an IDI fan as well.

try changing the lift pump or test it using a low pressure electric gas pump to see if the lift pump lost pressure
"Smokes my neighborhood" 😂😂 hell yeah
Probably a mix of both oil consumption and an injector or a few goin bad

advance your injector pump that will help a lot
Did it smell good. I love to smell diesel smokes
I have a 6.2 with bad injectors trust me you don’t want to smell that 😂 I still have a headache from starting it 4 hours aho
He says “it doesn’t smell like coolant or anything.”
Me thinking - “Okay that’s good”
He then says “But it burns my eyes…”
This insane 😂 please let me know if you fixed it
Looks like you might have an air intrusion issue

decent shape ? 😜 I live in Atlanta so what do I know.
Fix the diesel that’s in it
Seams like need to adjust time of injection pump.

I changed out with known good injectors and nothing changed.
I wouldn't get another 6.2. Gutless wonder.
Have u found the issue my 6.5 does this
Put money into the engine the Detroit's aren't that bad if anything LS swap it don't Cummins swap it
Change the injectors.
I did with known good ones and no change
Are all the glow plugs good?
With the smoke it’s blowing out it probably has a blown head gasket. You should Cummins Swap it
