Other than Ruffin and Kendricks, Woodson was the best replacement singer. His vocals were soooo strong, powerful and soulful..Since he left, no one else has filled those shoes.

I saw The Tempts perform in 1988 when Ali-Ollie returned to the group and me and my aunt were in the front row. Ali was a great performer and cool person he shook my hand 10 times and was glad to see a Black teenager singing and dancing to the music of the Temptations.
I purchased Meet The Temptations hot off the press in 1964. Since that day, they have been my favorite singers. Eddie was lead on the early hits I jammed to as a 15 yo, then David took the mike. If I could have, I would have walked away when David was discharged, but the guys were still good with the addition of Dennis. Through all of the different combinations and lineups, the quality never faltered. In my mind, no lead compares or stands ahead of Ali Ollie Woodson. A Grammy and Platinum record songwriter and a voice unlike any other, Ollie cannot set the standard for other singers, he is simply too good. Thank you, Ollie, in the sky for all the joy I still receive listening to you entertain me. You are truly missed and never ever forgotten. May God bless your soul and keep your family and fans in His grace.

Now, the last man I heard hold a note that long was the DELLs "Stay in my Corner" man o man, brilliant job
They got a video no audio w her David Ruffin does such ansimilar feat .Otis introduces him as he was at one of their concerts. I luckily came across it and cant remember any of the particulars. I think he was singing My Girl.
They were "lip-synching" during this telecast but I heard him hold that note in person. He was one of the greatest.
Also, listen to Jennifer Warnes' version of "Don't make me over". As the song prepares to close, she holds a C note!

What a great singer. It;s so sad that The Temptations' storied legacy also includes all of their greatest singers dying sad, sad early deaths. I know Otis Williams, Ron Tyson and Richard Street are just heartbroken. My prayers go out to Mr. Woodson's family. Temptations Forever.

I watched his funeral and not one of the temptation's were there. His wife and son and his 2 daughter's were so sad the loss of their father.
I worked Ali’s funeral I still have his obituary he used to go to my church and you are right I didn’t see any Temptations there at the funeral.

He was the only lead replacement who actually filled David Ruffin's shoes. Dennis Edwards was great, but his vocals were not as clear and crisp as those of Ruffin or Woodson. Clearly, this is only my opinion; many others have a different opinion.

I hear you Gary, I'm from Detroit and I am a singer. I definitely love the Temps ( especially when Ali Ollie Woodson became the lead but i still have to roll with The Mighty Dramatics as the Baddest singing group out of Detroit period and that ever touched microphones (their from Detroit as well).
@@qharper3827 sorry bro I'm a singer too sang with a group over 30 years worked with them all except the Jacksons. No doubt LJ Reynolds is a beast and so was Ronnie Banks. But no group and I mean no group was the Temptations equal. By far the greatest group of all times. Man for man the Temptations are just the best. None of the others could have survived and stayed true to who they are with 17 changes in personel. I would take David. Dennis and definitely Ali Ollie Woodson over Leon Reynolds, Eddie Kendricks over Ron and no base was equal to Melvin. Not only are the Temps better they dressed much much better. The Dramatic were not a well dressed group. And the Temptations have much better choreography. Love LJ worked with them a dozen times or more but The Temptations are on a different level. The Greatest Singing group of all time.
No question about it. The Dramatics are good but the Temptations are on a different level.
My one regret is when we worked with the Temptations David and Eddie were gone they had Dennis and the closest tenor to Eddie they ever had Damon Harris , Eddie's first replacement. Damon, now deceased was from Baltimore MD, I'm from NYC but met my group in Va.
That whole "Touch Me" album still gets regular play in my house, car and office!!

@Mike Wall Ali-Ollie was the absolute best! He didn't even need a microphone and you could hear him at the back of a large theater. He didn't need music. He could blow singing acapella. I had the great pleasure of meeting him, a very cool, nice brother. Thanks for watching.

When Theo Peoples came he was a notch below but close they shared lead on Some Enchanted Evening that combination was better than David and Paul Dennis and Paul and Dennis and Richard and Ali and Richard. Theo Peoples was a monster too.

The Temps were so good with Ollie at lead it truly amazing 😢 too bad it ended.

I grew up with the temptations, lived on the East side of Detroit, on Trombly, and the temptations, would be over the Crawfords, singing on the corner of Dubois and St Aubin, I remember like it was yesterday, I was just a kid, but do I remember, they were the best male vocalist group ever, then later I moved right across the street from Otis x-wife Josephine, my friend then and my friend now, Otis son was my heart, miss him so much, Rip Lamont, the Temptaions will live in my heart forever!!!!
Like i told a gentleman on here i sang with a very good group over 30 years of my life we met in high school like many others. We worked with them all except the Jacksons we worked with the Temps at least 11 times. Unfortunately for us David and Eddie were gone but our first gig with them they had the first and best replacement for Eddie they have had to this day, Damon Harris He was almost identical in tone to Eddie since then all the replacements have an Eddie sound including their current tenor Ron but Damon was Eddie Jr. The Temptations are without question the greatest group in history. One guy here says the Dramatics are better they are good The Temptations are Great.

The Temptations were fortunate to have great originals but there were other greats that sang or sing with the Temptations. Ollie was great, Dennis was great, Ron Tyson is more than great. He's been a Temptation for many years. You don't have staying power if you're not up to par. The group now has Otis W. who is the only original & Ron T. who has 40+ years of greatness! They are world wide stars for more years than most realize. You cannot compare. They all have given the Temps their shining reputation & still going strong! ❤ 💟🛐☮️🕎🌺💟😊🤗🙏🏾💖💖⭐🎗️⭐🎗️⭐🎗️

Yes!!!! I saw that same play, here in NY at the Beacon Theater! He just whipped this "mic" out from his back pocket and proceeded to lift the roof off the theater with that song. I love the original record, but that song will NEVER be the same again for me after Ollie's rendition.

I lived on the North End, my brother owned a Record Shop on 12th St & all the Motown Stars purchased their music there. Then my cousin got me a job at Hitsville as a student work project sponsored by the Det. Board of Educ. I was there part-time from 66-70. Knew everybody, went to all local Shows free, even snuck in Night Clubs with fake ID's they had made for me! LOL Watched all Motown Revues @ the Fox with front row seats but had sense enough to vacate them before the Temps came on stage! :-)

Ali was to me and many other singers when we talk was the best lead singer the temptations had and when Theo Peoples was beside him on Some Enchanted Evening that combo was definitely equal to David and Paul. Theo later went on after some years with the temptations to replace Levi Stubbs with the Four Tops,
