I am now 82 and have loved Swamp Blues since I was 14. I used to listen to WLAC at night only since I live in Mass. No other music like it. Slim, Lazy Lester, Jimmy Reed and all the otherrs. Nothing like it. It doesn't make any difference if you are white or Black. I am White. Music is music no matter what genre you enjoy.
I can listen to this shit for the rest of my pathetic life and never get bored of it, blues is such an impeccable style, and bluesmen are heroes to me.
if you like these blues that much and show such respect to the blues masters, and RECOGNIZE your life cannot be wholly pathetic. Helping to keeping the blues alive is what you're doing just by just listening and talking about them...and that's a great thing, keeping the blues alive. .
This is Louisiana Blues at its original finest -- Slim was from Baton Rouge and one of the major swamp blues artists. He is pure perfection with his harmonica, so smooth and natural, with a voice to match.
Since I was 13 years old in 1954 I have been hooked on the Blues and Slim Harpo is great. The Blues is the baseline for music in this nation. By the way, we are all members of the human family. Old white boy from Marion, NC. Robert Boggs
SLIM'S ONE OF THE BEST!!!! I'm an 82 yr old white boy that's ALWAYS luv'ed the blues. Used to hide my radio under my bed and slide it out late at night and listen to the blues
Robert you are spot on I'm a 67 year old white geezer from England. The blues gets into the souls of many people last year I heard it on holiday in Japan
Wow! Just so bluesy. There are so many great blues musicians, past and present, but I always come back to Slim Harpo and Sonny Boy Williamson II. No one makes me feel the blues more than those two. They leave space and let the notes creep into your soul.
I've been enjoying this kind of music for over 70 years my daddy said he thought I was the wrong color I said no I just know whit is good and I love it !!!
These Slim Harpo tunes got me into learning/playing harmonica (harp) in 1960 and still blowin almost 60 years later....vibrato is flawless and so is mine....funny how that goes in one lifetime....

@Evan Hodge Who said "have heard them all"?? Certainly not me or is your command of the English language lacking? Perhaps you are defining what I said as hyperbole which I won't deny although I don't agree and think you are sour grapes.
I just love this music, my dad played both the guitar and harmonica by ear and could play any song if he heard it and he played a lot of blues and this song brings back so many good memories of him his guitar, his harmonica and he and mom singing, good times I miss.
at 12 yrs old was playing 45's. didn't understand lyrics back then but it rocked me...saved $$$ so I could go to the "record store" and get some music, never could afford albums...there was something in my soul that gravitated to Major Lance, Slim Harpo, etc... Now at almost I'm a skinny assed white woman who still loves to dance to this music. Have been rocked a few times since 12.
One of the best. I love Mick Jagger's reply (from memiry) when someone asked him about the Stones version of King Bee.. "Its ok but why listen to us when you can listen to Slim Harpo"
You are right Bill,Mick Jagger said that in an interview with rolling stone magazine .This track is yet another example, of why he held Slim Harpo in such high regard.
I love this understatement. He keeps the energy all contained. It's up to the listener to fill in the blanks. Not today's histrionics. Keep the magic potent that way.
IDK....my Grandma made the best biscuits i ever put in my mouth. But The Blues are amazing. My Grandma's been gone a few years so im left to sing the Blues.......
My Mother played all this on big records when I was a child in the 50s and I took to it like a duck to water, so thankful to u-toob for giving all music an opportunity to meet the listener's demand, for example, Leroy Dallas was presented today with his raw tune {Your Sweet Man} recorded in 1949! peace
When I first heard this one, I thought he'd be around for a long time, wrong He was new to me anyway, plenty time to see him, wrong His star was short but blinding I'm crying for the shortness but lovin the precision Oh my Oh my, second time doubles the effect
I got into Blues in my teens, back in the 1970s. My father introduced me to Jazz even earlier. However, when I heard Blues, I like it every bit as much as Jazz. I liked English Blues Rock as well, but not as much. I'm a Tenor Saxophone Player, so I was attracted most to blues artists who played harp, although I really like what Hubert Sumlin did with Howlin' Wolf. Slim Harpo actually had a few hits on the Billboard Top 100 Singles charts. Not many Blues artists did that with original versions of their recordings.
Slim was born in Lobdell, the town my Pa was born in. It's just adjacent to Port Allen and probably no longer exists. But yeah, he's basically from the Baton Rouge area. the community called Mulatto Bend. Not too long ago, a monument was dedicated to Slim Harpo on South Mulatto Bend road.

I like this slim Harpo version of rock me baby. I do believe it was written by King/Josea. I don't know if they're referring to Albert King. I used to play this version of this song by Robin Trower, on the live LP over and over when we had 8 track tapes! Remember those.

Play that! This is the music that played in my home when I growing up. I'm 60 now, don't let this kind of music die.
Slim Harpo was a brilliant musician with an ability to touch you inside. The creativity of the musicians in this period can never be duplicated.
The beat, Slim's voice, pure magic, enough said.
Can’t get enough of Slim Harpo’ style. One of the absolute best blues singers. His harmonica is second to none. Too god dam bad he died so young.

Yea, the Stones version sounds like a bunch of pimply faced, prissy English boys.
