Rich out here teaching us all to be Plastic Surgeons...
And golf……
Okay.. maybe not golf… 🤔😳😂
@@malcolmyoung7866 plastic surgeon.. golfer... Same thing
Listen, not an "awesome truck" or mega project, but by far one of my favorite episodes. I do like the breakdowns at the end to give people a ballpark of they want to do it themselves. But it's also nice to see you have fun
You can always have more lights. The key word when working with lights is "festooned". I love that word. :P
Watching you and Andy goof around is so entertaining.
That plastic welding was very good tutorial.. thanks 👍 Keep on Rock Lighting 🤘🤘
Nice ride, I bet Rich and Andy would be a blast to go golfing with!
Andy wearing goofy golf clothes is hilarious!
Hey Rich, the less common SPST 5 pin “Bosch” style relays are common between the 87 and 87A terminals. That’s probably what was in the socket for the 4WD, making it irrelevant which terminal was used. However, if someone replaced that with an SPDT relay, it would definitely not work!
You can have more items plugged in like main system and accessories.
Great tip with the steel wool! I just bought a 72 Monte Carlo that’s actually in really nice shape but the plastic inner fenders are cracked up and I’m absolutely gonna try to fix them with this technique before I break down and spend the $300 on new ones 👍
Maybe fibreglass would work better so it can't start to rust and show rust spots? Afterall, pa66 is just glass fibre reinforced nylon plastic.
Tyre change at 26min looks like giant Lego with those yellow wheels 😂 cool project!
My front lower fender(its decoration only) is held on with de-soldering wire melted into both halves, the woven type works well and has been on for about 5 years, no corrosion as its copper.
Andy always make me smile 😁
Lawn tractor has the same engine and I learned that the alternator on them is really wimpy. So it helps to replace ALL the lights with LED to reduce the power drawn which in turn helps the battery charge.
Beats the wire Frankenstein stitches. I cut out a piece of my front motorcycle fender and pop-rivetted in a screen to allow more cooling air flow.
As for that 4wd relay, having 4wd on full-time unless you power up the relay would be the preferred way, because then you can never lose 4wd due to a bad relay. Similar to how ford engages the front hubs in their pickup trucks. The vacuum lines actually disengage the hubs, and their normal state is engaged. This way you can never lose 4wd due to a vacuum leak. Food for thought.
Keeps the grass looking better.
Looks good Rich!
Great upgrades and Fixes!
I really love our power dump on our gator. Also wench install would be fun to watch. Turn singles and tail light as well.
That light looks like it could give you guys a tan!
Use the cut ends of zip ties as filler works great
It's meant to be in four wheel drive when the ignition is off, that means the handbrake is working on all four wheels not just two. That's why it was wired that way.
Hi DGHD & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks DGHD & Friends Randy
Should take the rear light bar off and get those small ones that you have pointed sideways for the rear that have a red taillight function .
Superb. I love that thing!!
Well done rich, used to work for a customer with 4 of those things, all different ages, my fav was the petrol one.
Best upgrade we did to our Gators was replace em with Honda pioneer 1000’s. Faster, rides better, more comfortable seats, seats more people, WAY better transmission, more ground clearance, and is much more capable in mud and sticky situations. Used on a cattle ranch…
Yes,but not $2300.
Good job guys
I have the same gator. Got it for free from a job I did. Spent $100 on parts for it and 15 min of welding. The only add on I’ve put on is a hand winch to help lift up the box when it’s full of rocks from the field.
You should definitely put a radio in it.
I love the gators! Love the content!
I did some plastic repair with a sacrificed soldering iron, with some stitches using electrical copper wire strands, but never thought about using steel wool for réinforcement, good idea !
You can usually find which type of plastic it is engraved in the piece, ABS, PE, PET, etc. Then you can buy little filler plastic rods, if you don't want to canibalize some bits of the piece itself :)
Steel wool is great with all the different angles.
Should get Andy too find a nice pair of matching seats from the scrap yard a pair of Recaros would go down nicely on that gator .
Yeah, but not waterproof, which was the idea of the seats they used.
Rims - ACBY - Any Color But Yellow
They make fluorescent golf balls.
Awesome job Rich! I agree, love savibg older things like that. Great video.
2 things to mention about relays; not all 5 pin are changeover relays, you can get 1 in - 2 out style, so possibly the wiring was always OK but when the original 1-2 relay died it was incorrectly replaced with changeover one. The other thing is, instead of running + through the switch, it is safer and easier to run earth through the switch to the relay coil and pick up the 12v that feeds the main circuit to the other side of the coil.
The Golf bit was hilarious, the Deere looks much better now. Also Rich, if you are going to golf, don't muscle the ball, lol. Not to be that guy, but as someone that's played both Baseball and Golf, Baseball is where you muscle the ball, Golf is more like Tennis, its about controlling the swing, the weight of the club is all you need to send the ball down the course, so you don't need to hammer it, lol. Perfect test of the lights though.
midnight golfing . What a great couple idea
For a better finish look on the liner, the last coast could be done with a spray can.
Little bicycle intertube on roof make good for add raddle proofing
They make some hot staples for dealing with plastic cracks.
I have an 05 HPX 4x4, as far as I have found no one makes aftermarket plastics for these. Also you have this listed as a 1996 but they did not start making these until 2004 as far as I know. The only thing I'm not sure on is mine has manual 4WD engagement and yours is electronic. I didn't even know electronic was an option. I'm thinking it became an option on later models. (serial number 090001 and above). Number is located on passenger side frame in front of the rear wheel.
Panel bond works well for abs and other plastic
Now that's a transformation! =)
This is the first time I've seen a UA-camr apply black bed liner to a build that I didn't hate. That's mostly because they do it to the body of a car...
Also, slides in the shop 😂
6:12 "... only rusty plastic Gator out there" 😂😂😂😂
Well I’ll be dipped rich didn’t diesel swap that gator 😂 them halo lights looks awesome on that rig! And the night golf was funny 🤣
The project sounds like my other 4 projects that are either driving or just not at all but waiting on me to buy parts, & me daydreaming abt the 5th project that’s Dsl truck 2 where I have a bunch of already purchased parts including 2 air ride seats off 2 school buses that work fine in good shape that were taken off cuz the customer wanted new seats but didn’t want the old ones so I brought them home.
My 1993 F250 already has decent seats so they are not going into it, but if I buy a 1995 7.3 in the next year that’s where a bunch of parts I have will go onto to make one badass pickup with a great comfy interior, & make it nice.
Some fiberglass and fabric, you could have made new fenders pretty easy. I did it for my bumper on my old 96 S10. I put new headlights on it and needed bigger holes.
Hey Rich another great video love the Gator ,also really enjoyed the last video at the mission such pretty country ,and wonderful people ,very interesting Truck sales 😅😅,oh and have you not got Toyota Hilux utes in Canada big big seller here in Australia ,i guess they maybe a bit small engine wise for you guys but they are unbreakable work horses.oh and its pronounced High Lux 😊😊😊😊
Cheers mate

Not sure about the Canadian laws, but the reason Toyota doesn't sell the Hilux in the US, and makes the larger Tacoma instead, is due to the CAFE standards the United States has. Because CAFE standards force automotive manufacturers to hit certain fuel economy minimums by track and wheel base, the automotive industry makes larger and larger trucks every year so that they can keep the attainable fuel economy numbers for a larger truck. Just as a point of comparison:
2004 Ford Ranger
~58" (1.47M) Track (width)
~112 - 116" (2.84M - 2.95M) Wheel Base (distance from front hub to rear axle)
2024 Ford Ranger
~67" (1.7M) Track
~127" (3.22M) Wheel base
If I were to look at the numbers for the 2024 Hilux, I can tell you that Toyota would have to pay a fine for every truck sold on the US market because the 28 MPG it gets with the diesel engine option would not meet CAFE standards for the truck's width and wheelbase. That is why the small truck sales are non existent in the US, because of our dumb unattainable fuel economy laws. There is also the issue of the import duties and taxes that would make imported Hilux trucks much more expensive than if they were manufactured in the US or Mexico, which the Tacoma is now.
TL;DR, the US federal government is full of morons.

Thanks mate appreciate the explanation ,its funny we get some American vehicles here in Australia Mustang has been a huge seller Ford were smart enough to make a Right hand drive factory car so they are well priced here Ram and Silerado Camaro have to be converted to RH drive when they land in Auss more cost .we dont build carparks here to fit Ram Silverado,Ford F series ,they arent very popular here cost is unreal and we dont do 5th wheel trailers like you do in the States,so they arent really work vehicles more of a mid life crisis toy for cashed up guys.
Heres a couple of prices for you
F150 Lariat Coyote 2023 159,980$
F150 PLATINUM COYOTE 2023 199,980$
F150Raptor 3.5lt ecoboost 2024 219,980$
F150 shelby street 5.0 coyote supercharged 2024. 339,490$

Cheers kym

Goddammit good job
Hi Rich. Whats happing with the C10? Would love to see on the road. Cheers
Are you going to add a clear plastic windscreen something simple to keep brush out of your face as well as rain or snow if you get caught out when weather shifts?
You're a plastic surgeon . Success !
Can you just piggy back the top light bar to high beam wire on the headlights?
Filthy Rich the king of pragmatic repair ! Well played sir.
Hopefully it will charge with all those lights.
To cool
What is that loom cover rich? ❤️
Waiting for the roof to be painted yellow to look like an old 7520…
“We’re gonna black this thing out”
🤷🏼♂️
It needs a holley dash lol
hey rich @13:20 i think this is a classic issue of "you got the wrong part" i've had my ass kicked by an old nissan that somehow used relays that are 5 pin but the center is backwards (the common one the center is on when the relay is "off" and this one it was on with the relay "on") why was it like that? i have no clue but i had the worse day of my life with that one cuz they swapped the relay + socket and didn't notice the relay was "special"... i personally wouldn't put it past john deere to do the exact same thing 🤣
Winning
I’d have Bulls horns and way more LED’s, under glow plus a sound system…. Oh that’s right, I just described mine….
Be cool to see one of those horns from autozone that does the different sounds like dogs barking or cows mooing. It also has a microphone so you can yell at people.
I'm positive it'll work when I'm done, contact.
princess auto ? They just opened this year in my city
You can feed zipties through a hot glue gun to make plastic repairs easy !!
Can't believe the price on that ignition module.
Wow, all that plastic. I had a Craftsman garden tractor with an all metal body, solid as a rock. Only the dash and fuel tank were plastic.
I have a 2005 HPX and my 4wd is all manual operation no electronic systems....interesting...wonder whats the difference
😎👍
Put a holly dash on the gator lol 😅😅😅😅
👍

One would first need to own a can am before needing upgrades for it.
Were your golf clubs used and repaired by repairing the shafts by welding in rebar? If not that’s not on brand…
Hello Rich. I would like to apologize. I am the Mexican boy who wired up that gator and I was very tired the day I did yours.
I'd insulate that roof from radiant heat if you live in the south anyway
South Ontario, Canada.
I thought Deere was made in India, or just the big equipment?
All those lights = Canadian 420 field police cruiser rofl duct tape wheres Red Green when you need them
I gotta wire and fix a ton of crap on a used trailer tom… Please channel Rich so I don’t screw this all up. Thank you baby Jesus. Force out..
Dors and window
Hayabusa swap the gator
You give any deere that is not a kawasaki rebadge too much credit. The fuse panels are exposed hot garbage, zero of the thousand odd connections in the wiring are environmentally sealed, the fit is terrible on most of them, and the driveline is neither reliable, or modern. Only the old diesel gators were reliable hot garbage.
There's a reason nothing else runs like a deere because it's actually better!
.
The Gator is now a buttface
This repurposed lawn tractor stuff in a golf cart frame is ridiculous. I never understood the appeal of the JD side by side. Rather have a kubota diesel side by side with a proper suspension and proper ATV tires.
How is Deere staying in business? The over priced junk they make. Eeeesh.
Don't sneeze near those cheap lights, the will start flickering
