    John Newton had a stroke at a fairly young age (in his 40s) which took away his ability to serve as a captain of ships... Yet he still saw the good in this as he was now able to fully focus on God's Calling for his life (preaching God's Word & discussing his life experiences to reach out to others & abolition)..

    God specializes in broken pots! I loved that saying. I needed to her that today! I heard about John Brainerd listening to Leonard Ravenhill. I found out about Leonard Ravenhill through David Wilkerson All mighty men of God.

      There's a Japanese art form called "kintsugi" where broken pottery is mended with gold, so that the breaks and imperfection become a thing of beauty and uniqueness. The breakages and repair are part of the history of the object, not something to disguise.
      One could probably use the same metaphor here.
