Madonna makes a powerful statement, and hopes that instead of focusing on her being on a cross, you will remember the message of Jesus, and read what is on the screen behind her and realize the terrible tragedy that AIDS is STILL killing people in huge numbers, and leaving victims in it's wake. It amazes me how many ignorant people are simply focusing on her being on a cross, and not on the message. Thank you Madonna for trying to open people's eyes to this terrible epidemic.
She became a success when gaga, britney, aguilera, kate perry, k$sha and etc were just babies (or hadn't even been born)...And she has been a success until now...She stops when she decides to. I just want to see any of those pop singers of the moment just become 51, 52, 53 years old and still go on a tour with thousands of people singing their new and old songs...When that happens, then madonna's over...For now...she is the queen...
In reply, I will simply give you a quote from C.S Lewis himself who put it so well: "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic...or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is the Son of God; or else a madman or somthing worse." Jesus made it very clear through His words and actions that He was and is Emmanual (God with us). That's how I see it. Take care
i cried so hard watching this, just thinking about what is going on over there. I get what she's saying and don't think it's blasphemous...because Jesus was not the only one on the cross beside him hung 2 thieves i believe and one of them gave their life to him. I believe that she was right with this performance
We as Christians focus on the cross because it is Jesus's death AND resurrection that is the pivotal part of our faith. Jesus was God manifested in the flesh and thus He was the only one who could pay the sacrifice for ours sins. It was his sacrificial death on the cross that pardoned us and gave us the ability to come to the Father. So His death is important, as is His resurrection, not just His teachings...Amen
she is just expressing herself. The criminals on the cross next to Christ made their confessions by believing and being sorry for their sins. It is through grace and not works, SAVED! Their works are of that of a criminal. Confess, repent and turn from sin!
jesus had many tales to tell. he had a light that nobody could see until it was too late. he was poor and weak, and didn't have the strength to go very far. madonna is jesus.
it might be balsphemous but it doesn't go against what Jesus has taught and that is to spread the WORD and help those who are in need. What if Cece Winans or any Gospel singers out there portary this during the Holy Week, will it considered blasphemous still?
I don't really understand which of Jesus' teachings would be considered Satanic if he is not God. Why would Satan tell us to love each other and to love God? Why would Satan tell us to care for the weak and downtrodden?
This is the best song Madonna sang love it. I don't get it as well why she made an entrance on a cross it isnt like the song is about anything to do with religion
@tyme4mike Symbolism is a language created by people. Even if Jesus was not killed on cross, the cross has become a visual symbol for the death of Jesus. When I see this video, I see a statement in symbols that says Jesus cared about the poor and suffering, and when we ignore the suffering of the poor (like the AIDS orphans in Africa), we are ignoring the sufferieng of Jesus. This is in line with everything I learned about Jesus. What message do you see in it?
She is linking the poor to Jesus. She is playing the part of the poor in the lyrics of the song. By being on the cross as Jesus, she is restating what Jesus said, that what you do to the poor, you do to Him. She is not Madonna the sexy pop icon in this song; she is the downtrodden whom Jesus identified with. People complaining about this should forget their preconceived notions of Madonna, and look at it on its own merit.
mmm I don't agree too much because Jesus was a great great man (just remember that history is divided into two parts, before and after Jesus) and for me his teachings are so full of wisdom, mercy, I don't know, there are lots of adjectives to describe Jesus' life but, I insist... The cross ain't mean anything but the way he thougt us love and compassion.
@tyme4mike I will admit that I do not know exactly the details of the capital punishment devices of the ancient Romans. Christianity has adopted symbols from many cultures. It sounds like you are not objecting to Madonna's message, but the use by almnost every Christian on the planet of the Pagan cross as asymbol of Jesus' suffering. Does this mean you get upset at every church you go into, and at every Christian you see wearing a crucifix around his neck?
I wonder one thing, Was Jesus the only person who could be on a cross? It's too bad that people (mostly catholics and christians) only focus on her on the cross. Remember Jesus by his teachings not the way he died.... amen
To louisxiiii (3): It's so easy and right to talk about poverty and love and humanity and world peace, EVERYONE ACCEPTS them, along with the not so obvious "side" messages. She's not with Christ, she's against him. I’m sorry but I can’t accept acrobatic interpretations. These images are insulting for a Christian (and a poor African).
If you believe in the Bible, then you believe that Jesus words alone are not enough. The letters of the apostles that fill up the end of the new testament (Romans, Corinthians, Ephesians, etc) are evidence of this; otherwise, they could have just sent out copies of the Gospels. Clearly, not everyone reads the BIble, so are not touched by its words. Many people who see this performance would not have given much thought to Jesus otherwise. She reached people traditional preachers can't.
To louisxiiii (1): Jesus Christ is Alpha and Omega, he is the Word of God and God and his words are MORE than enough. You're completely wrong saying his words are not enough. His apostles were sent to evangelize the world with the message of his resurrection. They said nothing new to what Jesus said, how could they? Their mission was to spread the Church of God and deal with its early problems (with the letters).
@louisxiiii 2ndCorinthians4:3 & 4;3 "If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through." Who is the "god of this system of things"? Yes, none other than the father of the lie, Satan himself. Thanks for responding.
@louisxiiii Jesus died once for all and he died on a torture stake, not a cross, which is a Pagan symbol. Do your own history if you don't believe me. So she is being blasphemous towards our savior's purpose on a Pagan cross. God will judge, it's not our business to do so, but I know wrong when I see it...and THIS is WRONG!
Are you serious? You mean Jesus Christ's words were not good enough on their own? they needed to be restated or represented?? then why believing in Him? Don't try to excuse her. It's obvious she doesn't respect Christ's Cross. And yes, she IS the (sexy) pop icon, she'll always be. Wherever she stands, whatever she says is under her unique and specific quality as an icon who knows the impact of her actions to the masses. The only poor here is your arguments, sorry. a greek orthodox christian
Unreal and one of the most bone chilling things I have ever seen in my life. A masterpiece. Absolutely genius and forever life changing.

Me, too. The woman is just amazing.

Pero por supuesto que la llenaría aunque se presentara solamente durmiendo. Madonna es grande y lo ha sido desde la década de los años 70.
