Yes finally after so many years Mike and Nancy get some really sweet romantic love scenes For years they were so un-romantic it was like they were brother and sister!
Good to see Mike and Nancy working on their relationship. Their embrace onstage is part of the Pick-up-Sticks opening in a few months. The Dead Spouse Club was a good trio at this stage. It was nice to see the three have a little fun. The Isis Building is introduced. Buckle up for the crazy, bumpy, creative ride ahead!
Ok- I liked the ISIS storyline! It was so bonkers and like nothing I had ever seen or predict what I was going to see. Plus the first time I watched it I was sick in bed and it really took my mind off of things.
Another plus side to Lee Sheldon's writing. He brought romance back to Mike and Nancy's life. They had practically no romance in the last few years until now. So nice to see him writing these scenes for the older actors.
The bar sequences in this show contain the song Another World by Joe Jackson....copyright issue and music will be removed later tonight. The complete show is posted on Internet archive with music uncut. archive.org/details/the-edge-of-night-july-27-1983-wabc-tv-7-original-commercials
It was nice to see Sarah Tucker, too! She was iconic like Joann the Plumber. Rosie w/Bounty. Mrs Olsenw/Folger’s. Madge w/Palmolive. Mr. Whupple w/Charmin. TyDBowl Man.
I wonder if the complete closing theme was Grace Jones influenced? It reminds me of her brand of music. I found the closing theme on UA-cam and added it to my music playlist.
ABC was always courtious in allowing the vocal theme to play without their announcer promoting the nights shows. I always wondered if they asked for the vocal theme to end, so it would give them a chance to do more promoting on the end credits.
@@Edgeofnight80s That's the only reason I could ever think of (to give the network more promotion time); there was certainly no benefit to the show itself in discontinuing the vocal ending, unless it was to accrue a financial benefit from the network.
@@bramlintrent1145 Of course the theme chaned to a disco techno beat by Sept 83. So I would imagine that would be very difficult or would have sounded strange to have a singing vocal on that. At least it would not have been as good as the previous vocals.
@@Edgeofnight80s I would've liked to hear them attempt the change to the techno tune. They did a great job switching the vocals in 1980 from jazz to disco. I expect the coulda done it again.
When this was aired on ABC daytime, school lunch menu courtesy of the Glendora, CA Unified School District: Toasted Cheese Sandwich, French Fries, Creamy Coleslaw, Peach Cup.
So much to recommend in this episode. Edge has been generous in its action-sequences- historically notable, in part, for its action sequences, the action tends to be character-driven and normally taking place between 2 or 3 characters. The closing scene between Chris, Derrick and Miles reminded me of so many quiet moments between Nicole and Miles, making her death still shocking and the character, much missed. Jinx’s death was EON’s way of reminding viewers that it can def do soap opera of the teary variety. it’s nice to learn more about Walter from Chris but I wish some of this characterization had happened prior to his death. STILL, he was funny and I thought, a welcome addition to the cast, with his hand in many of the main character plot , having been married to Chris Egan and investigating Camilla and Spenser for Raven and Skye. And the dance between the Carr’s, showing that having survived over 2 decades on a show with a higher-than-body count, their marriage is solid enough to survive growing interests in activities outside of their solid marriage. Finally, I love a good seedy Gay bar and Edge has yet to disappoint on that front on the practical or subtextual level. Kudos, Edge. I hardly ever fail to watch At 11 or right before morning. 🎉
That was the one thing I applaud Lee Sheldon for. That is bringing back the action sequences. Edge always had a long run in the past years the 60s and 70s for doing some great suspensful staged action set pieces. For some reason Slesar stopped doing these around 1979 and his last few years were enjoyable, but were too slow and talky. Especially his final story "the Phone Book"
Yes brother Gianni. I loved the gay subtext as well. Bittersweet to see the final scene in this episode where both of the actors passed away from AIDS not long after the end of the series. ❤
Proctor and Gamble no longer care for their old soaps. A Retro station wanted to repeat Edge and some of their other productions a few years back, but they were told by P and G rep they no longer work with their past soap productions.
Lauri Laughlin’s bangs are annoying! But the sizzling mustache menage a trois with Miles, Derek and Chris provides interesting subtext. Ditto on the symbolism of Mike and Nancy’s sensual ballroom dance.
I love Mike and Nancy. These scenes in particular are fantastic.

@Edgeofnight80s so the problem is fixed with Internet archive. ??
You mean not Crystal Gayle's Another world. ??😂😂
I love the cat commerical. ❤❤
Back When commercials were funny and not in your face shoving drugs at you like they all are today.
Nice to see Betty White

I miss the vocal version of the closing theme.

Midnight express. What a flick.

Works for me! 🤤
Mine was distributed by the Garvey School District in Rosemead, CA. Memories
I always brought my lunch. 😂😂
By the time Steve Markem does catch up to jody and Del. It will be 2025. 😂😂 Thanks for the upload !!
Hopefully Markham will catch them before LOVING goes off the air in 1995!!
Is that Dick Cavett in the first scene with Gunther?
Yup
Why the dirty looks and terse responses from Jody with Chris Eagan?
Interesting that Lois Kibbee and Ann Flood had that same wit and sense of humor, sort of nerdy, “daytime tv” personalities of the 70’s.

Just wonder if they put this soap on DVD?
Don’t we wish.
If they put this on DVD I would be one of the first in line to purchase it! I am just so grateful we have the shows we have here!
No...

@@Edgeofnight80s such a shortsighted view of Proctor and Gamble. Thank goodness you have preserved and found as much as you have! It’s such a treat 😊

Oh brother. Enough already with LOVING. what a monumental bore and failure. What a slap in the face to the originality of EDGE.
