No offense, but in kitchens I avoid anything in the kitchen that'll absorb moisture like mdf.. If you live in an area with high humidity mdf can turn into blobs of fluffy real quick and kitchens are usually real humid or at least prone to water exposure. I like using good quality plywood and trim out things with cypress as much as possible. Cypress is cheap usually, nice and straight and easy to work with and next to bullet proof around water..
