  • I give a lot of details of how to set the basic timing on a Cummins injection pump on the 4bt and 6bt diesel engine. I also give the torque spec for the delivery valves and and torque specs, ensure that your injection pump will work correctly and fire each injector like it should . It’s real important while working on your injection pump that you keep things very clean and prevent any debris from falling into the injector pump itself or in any passages or injector line tubes, so keep a clean environment. It will help you out in a long run, Important information of basic knowledge for those diy guys and gals doing a diesel conversion or swap. Thanks for watching!!!

    Thanks for the video! I pulled my pump off the other day to replace the o-ring on the distribution block and forget to lock the shaft. I'm really hoping that's why it won't start right now.

      As long as the key way on the shaft lines up with the scribe mark on the housing it is timed. Did you put everything back in place before tightening down the distribution block? Make sure the pump timing mark is lined up to the mark on the back of the front cover housing on the engine. Bleeding air can be difficult sometimes out of the pump and all injector lines.

      @@brians7185 OK try this take off the air intake tube and if you have a little two cycle gas mixture like for weedeaters or gas blowers poor just a little bit down the intake and crank it over it will fire up and will not hurt the engine and hopefully that will help get everything primed. Ensure that you have at least two injector lines loose at the injector to help lead the air.. then do the same thing with the other two injectors hopefully will start for you

    I'm the same guy 1999 Cummins diesel generator 4 cylinder injection pump. There's no tension in the pump when I turn it with a wrench but it does have the bolt on the side where you lock it in time then you slide it through the whole back into the gear. Just a reminder this is a brand new Cummins diesel engine fuel injection pump. Could this be a bad fuel injection pump. I went ahead and tried it but I don't get no fuel coming out of the fuel pump itself. I even primed the pump. It's got a brand new pickup pump on it.

    I have a 1999 Cummins diesel generator 4 cylinder. The fuel injector that was in it the camshaft broke. I ordered a new fuel injector pump. And I done what you showed me in the video that you showed how to time one The new pump camshaft just goes around and around it has the bolt on the side of it to where you and then you time it, but it does be no good to turn the camshaft cuz there's no tension but it does have the bolt on the side where you lock it in place to keep it from moving, I have looked online to find out if it's possible to get a bad fuel injector pump a new one.

      You feel some resistance every 1/4 turn of the pump shaft. Sounds like something is wrong with the pump.

    Great video, thanks! Do you happen to know the pump # of the one you were working on there? I have a B3.3 in an old Toyota that has a Roosamaster I'd like to replace with a VE. So many numbers and combinations.. altitude compensation and road governer would be great! It's maxed out at 1,900 rpm.

      1/16 to 1/4 you can make your own, as long as the bolt is backed off the shaft and not touching you will be good. Hope that helps!!!

    Hello. I have a 2010 kawasaki mule 4010 with this style of injection pump and for the lofe of me i can not get fuel to squirt out of the check valves. I cleaned it hundreds of times over. I even bought a used pump and swapped the parts over and still no squirting out of the check valves. I know the solenoid is working i checked it. And when i spin it over with a drill at similated engine rpm fuel is coming out of the retuen lines like a waterfall but not out of the check valves. I even tried bleeding the pump of any air

      Do you have a an additional supply fuel pump on the side of the engine or possibly an electric fuel pump that supplies fuel to the injector pump? I’m not familiar what this pump looks like, but I do understand theory that when you spend your pump over with a drill, you have fuel coming out the return line, but not the delivery valves.. That is very possible it could be a broken cam plate because without it working properly, there’s no way to increase to the high-pressure fuel to come out of the delivery valves that lead to the injector lines and then to the injectors.

    • @KodinKing
      @KodinKing Місяць тому

      @jeepmanking3577 I didn't put the top back on and I can see everything moving as it should so the cam plate is good.

    I do know that there has to be tension on that pump before it will work, and it also has to be timed.

    Hello. I have a Case 580K backhoe, with a Cummins 3.9 diesel. The foot throttle linkage leaver, on the top of the injector pump was leaking terribly,,, I was losing all of my fuel line pressure, & the motor was extremely hard to cold start.
    After managing to get it started & warmed up, it would repeatedly start, easily, & then ran perfectly. This motor has a Very clean running exhaust, & it was totally dependable. Now, to FIX THE LEAKING PUMP.
    I 'locked in' the motor to TDC, & 'locked in' the pump. It seemed to take quiet a bit of pressure to pull/ POP the gear off of the tapered pump shaft. ??
    I was told that the gear, without being on the pump shaft, could NOT move out of position, or jump a tooth out of timing!?
    I Removed the pump & had it rebuilt. ($1000). After the rebuild, I was told that the pump was locked back in 'time'.
    My very intelligent (electrical engineer) Son & I TRIED 3 times to re-mount the injector pump, place it back on the 3 bolts & back through the housing & into the keyway in the drive gear. No matter how hard we tried to ADJUST/ turn the pump on the 3 mounting bolts, we were still 1/2 of a key off! The gear would not go on!
    PLEASE,,,, what went wrong? What do we have to do to get the gear onto the pump key,,, & then, how do we make sure all of the timings are right? We already removed the #1 valve cover, & doubled check the rocker arms & valves for TDC.
    As far as we can tell, we would have to rotate the motor, so the gear would turn 1/8", about 1/2 the key, to be able to slide back on.
    AGAIN,,, HELP PLEASE!

      @jeepmanking3577  8 місяців тому +1

      OK does the keyway on the injector pump shaft line up with the scribe mark on the injector pump housing if it does then the pump is in time. On the back of the timing cover where the three studs are that mount the pump did you push in the timing locator pin? Sometimes the little nipple breaks off of the timing locator pin not a big deal. So the timing gear inside the timing cover should be timed as you stated and not moved. Maybe when you pulled your pump out it wasn’t exactly at top dead center. That’s where the timing pin locator comes in handy now if you didn’t use the timing indicator pin Prior to pulling the pump not that big of a deal you can turn the engine slightly to line up the keyway to insert the pump and reattach the nut. Let me know if that makes sense. If not message me back. I’ll get back with you very soon.

      Been very busy, finally able to get back to you.
      Son & I doubled checked everything. He even took the inspection plate off the side of the injector pump to check 'the marks'. Everything seems right.
      I changed batteries & cleaned all battery connections yesterday. I also put on another fuel supply pump & pumped up pressure till I heard fuel dumping back into the tank,,, 5-7# check valve. ??
      Wondering,,, is it possible to use fuel supply pump to build up enough fuel pressure to BLEED OUT THE INJECTORS?
      If everything sounds right to you,,,
      We will totally HEAT block water,,, Hook up 2 huge batteries, & give it another whirl!!
      1st time, she blew out blue smoke, not black!? Still 1/2 out of timing? or just not turning over fast enough?
      WE WILL SEE.
      Thanks a MILLION, for your help.! ;>)@@jeepmanking3577

      Good luck, the only way to get the air out. Is at the injectors what I have done in the past is take off the intercooler tube on the intake manifold and I use a little two cycle gas mixture, dribble a little bit down in there, crank it it will help start a whole lot better and easier to get the air out and is a whole lot safer than starting fluid on the engine.

      @jdoboy6835 8 місяців тому

      Wow,,, I sure would'a loved to be there & watch you make that two cycle gas manuver! That would have made one hell of a youtube video!!
      I've been a heavy equipment operator for 35 years, never heard of that one, on any kind of diesel.
      OK,, I'll keep that trick in mind.
      But first, I'll bleed everything again, & try to crank the crap out of it,,, see if it'll pop.
      I'll letcha know,,,,,
      Thanks Much.@@jeepmanking3577
