Hi
Best teacher
I am very interest your lesson
I'm an English teacher and I still watch your videos to improve my English and hear your beautiful accent which I trully adore. Exellent job!
I think you're good teacher!
@@nurdauletzhunisov2374 I think you're good, teacher!*
Or:
I think you're A good teacher.
*truly 🙃
Aw this comment is so cute!
Same here.
I'm actually a native English speaker, and an older Russian friend asked me about these a while ago, I didn't know! Of course I know what sounds right, and what should be said, but not the rules. Until today, Tenses knowledge to me were just past present and future, so you have been a great help to a native (present perfect) what a perfect present! Thanks!
@@JulieJune8 Surely "I will be going to the cinema later" would be future tense?
broo i had the same exact problem, I am no native English speaker, but thanks to the internet I am able to speak English fluently. But I never once thought of the rules of grammar and all that stuff. I just speak what sounds right lmao
@@blue_rangerYes, and no. It depends on who you ask. Your example is considered a future tense by most modern teachers, but to some linguists, it’s more like a present tense.
Basically, it boils down to what is considered a tense. In the strictest sense, word endings have to change. It doesn’t with the so-called future tense in English.
We can argue that the word “will” simply expresses one’s intention-one’s “will” to do something. This is actually how the word was first used. Grammatically speaking, it acts very much like the word “dare” in “I dare say . . . ”
Yes, for Russians it's a great problem to learn English tenses :D
For example, we don't have difference between "I study", "I am studying" and "I have been studying" :) but we can understand it.
And English Past Tenses drive us crazy :D
@@Kakaokletocka also no difference between "study" and "teach" - it helps a lot 👀😆
You nailed this lesson Lucy.
it's also worth noting that we choose the present perfect simple rather than the continuous to emphasize that something isn't short term:
-simple: I've worked her most of my life. (long term)
-continuous: I've been working here for just a few days. (short term).
we can also choose the continuous to stress that something is repeated:
-continuous: I've been using the swimming pool since we moved into this neighborhood. (repeated)
-simple: I've used the swimming pool since we moved into this neighborhood. (one or two occasions)
I love the precision and simplicity with which you explain English grammar. In this clip you show really well the beauty and subtlety of this surprisingly beautiful language.
My understanding of Enligsh has been increasing since I started to watch your English lessons.Thank you so much.
I see what you did there!
@@lebeccthecomputer6158 :D
"Since I've Been Loving You" a well known song of Led Zeppelin. Perfect continuous with stative verb.
Same with the present continuous in "Mc Donalds - I'm loving it"
she's so pretty omg
As being an English class teacher, this was by far the best explanation video about the related subject I have ever watched...perfect job👏👏👏
I'm from Indonesia. I have been studying English for 2 years. It means Two years ago, I studied and Now I still study English.
Obviously, this is one of the most helpful lessons I was looking for here on this channel!
Thanks a million, lovely teacher Lucy Bella! A lot of love!
I taught English to kindergarten children in my twenties.
Please explain someone
I have slept badly yesterday??
I slept badly yesterday??
What's the difference
@@thegangsta1526 I dont think there is a difference
@@thegangsta1526 "I have slept badly yesterday" is wrong because you said when it happened > yesterday. The second one is properly right because you used simple past, which is for a past action finished at some specific point in the past.
I am from Morocco, so I tried many Moroccan and Arabic teachers as well, but I could not understand when I found your channel, even though my English is not good enough, but through the available translation, I was able to understand my lesson better than before. I would like to thank you very much for these efforts.
I’m an English learner. I’m still on the basic level, but your accents is so beautiful and easy to listen for me.
Also I have struggled with present perfect and present perfect continuous, but Thank to this video, I may be able to solve this problem.
I would like to give my grateful appreciation for your dedication.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the grammar breakdown! My students were struggling with this in class today and this will definitely help them. You offer wonderfully clear examples ;)
OMG this video is literally an EPIPHANY..
I need to explain these and other tenses for college and this video came to me as a guide. Thanks a lot for all these videos ♥️✨
Thanks for being so clear!
Thank you for your brief explanation.
I started watching these videos yesterday and now I'm addicted, I haven't had a good English teacher since seventh class and now I'm looking forward to reviving my interest in English, thank you for these great videos :)
That's a difficult lesson to learn, but you did a great job teacher Lucy! Thank you for your effort!
I agree with you, we need to study a lot to learn this lesson. Hi from Brazil.
You can study wth Rebecca .She is very good teaching
It's NOT difficult...

Amazing and clear explanation of something so complicated. Thank you! xx
Lucy, you don't know how much you helped with this video. I've been studying for the intermediate language exam since 3 months. I was struggling with the Perfect and the Perfect Continuous tenses but for now I don't struggle with any of these and it's thanks for your videos.
Thanks for everything
Once again, remarkably precise and helpful video, as always. Thank you Lucy! 💜
I think there is another huge difference. I will take the example with the therapist. "She has been seeing a therapist. " means that she has seen him more than once whereas "she has seen a therapist." can mean that she has seen him him once.
I should disagree. The Present Perfect Continuous form of this sentence would mean that she had been seeing a therapist until the moment this sentence was uttered. It is akin to such a situation:
- Hey Lucy, where have you been? I’ve been looking for you everywhere!
- Oh I’m sorry, I have been helping my mum with some housework.
I understand what you say but I dont see why is my explanation wrong based on your comment...
There is a way to make things perfectly clear:
She has seen a therapist once.
She has seen a therapist many times.
Just by adding "once" or "many times".
Similarly all the uncertainties and trouble in English can be eliminated by just adding a few words in the sentences. No more changing of the root words because of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, singular vs plural, tenses, gender, individuals vs group, etc.
I have been explaining this present perfect and present perfect continuous to my friends and family but the way you explained is so easy to understand. Thank you.
An awesome explanation! Thanks Lucy!
Ahhh, love her. She’s such an inspiring teacher! ✨✌🏻
This topic is really tricky! I've had difficulties teaching that because I realised that, in some points, the theory was contradictory. Thanks for the explanation!
Thanks Lucy for wonderful lessons And the technique you apply, I just love the way you taught and I started to watch your informative videos to easy my learning path. 🙂
Thank you! 💖 This video was all I needed 🙏🏼 super clear!
I‘ve been told so many times that there is always a difference between these two. This lesson clears every doubt in my mind. Thx!
I have been looking for find out a situation that "whereas " word can be used in, really I was surprised when I saw that you use it . it was maybe a coincidence or a chance for me, I gained double benefit from this lesson, thx teacher lucy😊
Thank Lucy for your effort. this lesson makes it clear for me.
Really a very enlightening channel for keen followers of the English language and it's nuances . The more you watch the knowledge rich videos here the more you realize that there is no limit to learning English and improving upon one's knowledge of English or for that matter any language .. This particular video for some reason reminded me of my English grammar book by Wren and Martin .. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful pearls with all..
Thank you Lucie for all your easy to understand hints about the many English speaking pitfalls :-)
Hello Lucy .. thanks a lot for this lesson. I have been looking for explanations about these two tenses for such a long time.. this one answers lots of my questions.. thanks again for your precious help.

I'm an English teacher living and teaching in Turkey and though I've known most of them, third rule surprised me because I've been using it all the time however I just didn't know why I used it that way.
Also, your accent is so clear and easy to understand that I think I'm going to send your videos to my students so that they can benefit from you, too.
Congatulations! You were brilliant explaining this lesson. And I appreciate your British accent.
How interesting to hear the rules behind how we speak. I never gave a second thought to why we say things the way we do. You're an excellent instructor.

Thank you for this great explanation. You're such a great teacher. You have made English easier for us.
So clearly, thanks Lucy❤️
Thank you Lucy, hope you're doing well ❤❤
Lucy, will you please make a video about the differences between southern British accent and northern British accent?
The best class I watched here in UA-cam. Really thanks! Congratulations!
Thank you for this informative and complete lesson. I am going to watch it again and again because its very difficult material. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!
You know, recently I've been studying these tenses of the verb. The difference between present perfect and present perfect progressive and past perfect and past perfect progressive as this tenses is usually used for my upcoming english exam. Thank you Lucy for enlightening me with this. 💗
I'm confused 😢
It’s definitely an awesome grammar, and thanks for sending, I’ve already finished your PDF
Hi! Thanks for your help! I bought the English tenses course because I’m a Portuguese native speaker which is trying to learn English for at least 10 years. I was stuck how a really good listener but awful speaker and writer and I couldn’t understand why, so I came back to the most basics grammars with your open UA-cam videos until I could buy the English tenses and lass than a month I can try express myself without shame or feeling the need to translate every simple sentence to make sure I’m right. 😅😅😅 thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Crystal clear! Thanks Lucy, now I know how to use those 2 tenses😍
That's the clearest explanation of their difference I've ever seen. Thank you.

Lucy i love you so much! can you please make a video on how i can speak in a british accent? I am actually from India, and all english we learn is a mix of accents. I really like your accent and i REALLY want to learn it.
Hello Lucy! Thank you for the lesson. It was very useful.
You’re an amazing teacher! Very well explained. So easy to understand. Not only you’re beautiful, your accent is beautiful as well.
A perfectionist presenting continued perfection out of a present perfect continuous tense lesson. (I am sure this sentence is a mess hahaha but I couldn't resist)
I just wanna say thank you for helping us!
Yo have win a place on the sky. ❣️✨
easily understood, thanks a lot lucy
It's so helpful! Thank you!
I’ve been living in England for 3 years vs I’ve lived in English for 3 years - the meanings can be subtly different. The former emphasises a continuous unbroken duration while the latter does not have this association. If you say I’ve lived in England for 3 years, it could mean you have accumulated enough years of living in England. It doesn’t mean the process of accumulation is unbroken. You could live in England for a year and then lived elsewhere and then came back to England and lived there for 2 years so now you have lived in England for 3 years.
11:45 that's is a discovery for me. Will try to enhance my speech applying that. It's indeed a brilliant! Kinda information for advanced level. Thanks Lucy 🌺
Frankly, that’s the only list item I can reason about, and it’s the one that shows the difference between the tenses
This kind of video is what I was looking for! Thank you teacher.
Thanks again, a wonderful lesson!
The grammar book of Cambridge university cleared all my doubts about already and yet.

Thank you, Mrs. Lucy. In fact, I am from Iraq (Arabic). I am an English language student and I have an exam. I was confused, but thank God I found your channel. I really understood the topic and it became easier. Thank you again. I hope to become a teacher and trainer of the English language Good in the future I love you❤
Thank you so much Ms lucy for the explanation
Usually, when using the present perfect continuous there's an emotion involved like suprise, anger, etc
I've been living here for ten years an I have never met such a nice person. (Here the speaker is surprised)
I've been waiting for two hours! (The speaker here is angry and annoyed)
Another reason why we used the present perfect progressive in the second example is because it's uncommon to use the present perfect with the word "hour"
That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
Love you Lucy, and yes I am on my eighth cup now.
U know me so well 😂
Greatly explained!
Thank you so much for your explanation both tenses.
Hey Dear Lucy Sista.. Thanks for uploading this Beautiful video dear..❤

Really good lesson, I've definately enjoyed it! You've mentioned Seonaid below in the video, she has really good content indeed.
Keep it up!
Thanks a lot for the lesson!! That was very helpful. I am still confused about one thing :)
When you said that we can use PPC to talk about unfinished actions and PP for finished ones. I am wondering if it's a finished action, why not use the simple past instead? Hope that you can answer my question as soon as possible. I am a novice English teacher. Thanks a lot again.
We use Past Simple for finished actions when we know when they happened or when it's important, or when we don't want to emphasize the result of those actions on the present.
E. g., "I've already watched the film." - it's a result by the moment of speaking. "I watched the film yesterday" - we just give information about the past.
We could even say something like "I finished watching the film 10 minutes ago" and it would still be PS because in this exact sentence I just want to give info about the past.
I am a Portuguese student with an English test at the door and without understanding anything about verbs or grammar, I saw this video and a few more and I understood! Thank very much!
