- The (high school) Maine All-States Choir singing Elijah Rock, during our performance last year. Conducted by Dr. Jonathan Talberg.
There are many different versions of this composition, but I found a small part of the one that we sang. I couldn't find the lyrics to the other compositions without paying for them online. .
"Oh Elijah. Oh Elijah.
Elijah Rock shout shout
Elijah Rock comin' up Lord
Elijah Rock shout shout
Elijah Rock comin' up Lord.
Come on sister help me to pray,
Tell me my Lord done pass dis way.
Elijah rock, shout, shout.
Elijah rock, comin' up Lawdy.
Elijah rock, shout, shout.
Elijah rock, comin' up Lawd.
Satan ain't nothin' but a snake in the grass.
He's a conjur. He's a liar.
Hallelujah Lord.
If I could I surely would,
Stand on the rock where Moses stood.
Elijah Rock shout shout
Elijah Rock comin' up Lord
Elijah Rock shout shout
Elijah Rock comin' up Lord."
It took me a while to realise the video was just a picture
Shout out to the altos, the best voice part! Seriously, they were loud and rich. And as an alto, I take pride into that.
Overall, amazing performance.
altos ruin everything
+Ahmad Anderson In my experience it's so hard to find good altos. Because of that they actually really do make or break the choir.
+Ahmad Anderson as an alto I have to disagree!
+Ahmad Anderson well as a tenor i have to say tenors ruin everything unless they are near perfect
In this song, they really do have the best part. It's super fun to perform this as an alto! Most of the time I find we get stuck with the repetitive, boring (though admittedly important background) parts. For example, Shut De Do. That bored me to tears
Tell me why I'm here singing "Elijah rock, oh Elijah rock Elijah!" to myself, 7 years after singing this in High school, leading me to search this song up
I knew clicking on the all state chorus version was a good idea.
The pitches may be right but other than that I don't know what you found to be good about this haha
Marthurx2x You obviously don't have a good ear or appreciation of music, especially performed by middle/high school students. :)
Kylie Hood no one likes to see a bunch of white kids stand there motionless singing a spiritual
Penile Dementia I think these are pictures
Penile Dementia Why does that have to be about their race? They are honoring the song, if anything.
I’m proud of those tenors singing that high hallelujah lord.
I was suppose to sing this for choir in spring, you can guess why it never happened. I loved this piece, being a bass, and it was such a bummer that I'll never get to sing this again.
Who’s still here in 2023!?!?
Mother of two All State singers from Pinkerton Academy (one made it all four years). 2024. My ten year old granddaughter just got into Cab Calloway School of Fine Arts in Delaware. Get to do it again!!
THAT SOPRANOS RUN IN THE END 😍😍 IT WAS TO BE ELEGANT AND OPERA-LIKE! YET WAS IN A WAY INTENSE LIKE A YELP OR CRY OUT LOUD! IT WAS PERFECT!
I loved singing this when I was in choir. My fellow tenors loved jumping in the soprano bit hallelujah jesus
Justin Stacey yes tenors are a different breed of human.
@@keatonsilver2662 we are indeed
We've been singing this in my chorus. :D Oh yes. First soprano is fun to sing with this. :)
FIRST SOPRANO HERE I ADORE THIS SONG
FIRST SOPRANO HERE I ADORE THIS SONG
Sophiemaster12 LOL SAME
Luna Blue IKR! Same. This is a great song for first sopranos
Luna Blue omg my chior teacher is actually picking first soprano and I actually hope he doesn't pick me. its an amazing song but really hard to sing.
This Piece will never cease to amaze me.
The feeling we’d get as a choir together was so energizing when we would nail this one. And we would constantly just sing this one for fun in the choir room when we had time to kill listening to this 15 years later makes me tear up. Love this song and it’s such a beautiful spiritual piece. 😊
To the singers of the high soprano split, you have very bright futures ahead of you. That was professional level!
The basses omg. My honor choir singing "Didn't my Lord Deliver Daniel" could never. I just wish the low E section was stretched a little longer than it was just because it's a rare moment for basses to shine.
a high school honor choir did didn’t my lord deliver daniel?
@@gabrielgaplanian1837 Yeah, we did
Moses Hogan is one of my favorite composers, I always love performing his pieces.
Yes, it's really good
Mine too :D
My junior high concert choir class is singing this and Battle of Jericho which is also by Moses Hogan. We are doing it for our last choir concert this year. After 27 years, this is our amazing teacher's last year here so we are going big. Rocky Mountain Jr. High will miss you Mr. Saunders 😢
2:33 HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THAT IS SUCCULENT
Thorn Walker I KNOW RIGHT???
i listened to this full volume on my airpods and literally started CRYING OF HOW AWESOME THIS WAS 😭
I was in this choir and it still gives me chills (:
This is my choir's favorite song to perform, and whenever we are bored, we just sing it because it's so fun. We always have the greatest time.
This song gives me chills every time I sing it
One of the best choral pieces ever composed. And this is a GREAT rendition.
Incredible performance. And without a director too. Impressive!
oh man does this make me miss being in choir and singing soprano
I still get goose bumps every time I hear this!!!
Another choir in my recital performed this tonight and it was captivating
Love the bass part in this song, it was one of my faves to perform.
Elijah is RISING now against Baal. Jezebel and it's prophet/Prophetess are getting ready to FALL!👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
Sang this in high school honor choir. You guys did this song some JUSTICE!!! WOW! Shout out to the alto 2’s! You know it’s a good choir when you have goosebumps the whole way through !
When your choir is small enough that half of our tenors are girls... Including me.
Mine has 120 kids XD It's lovely, but also very cramped. You gotta learn to love your neighbor lol. Keep rocking your tenor part :)-Being a Soprano one, I so envy altos who can hit those nice low notes.
-Your choir may be small, but you don't have to be big to make beautiful music. Keep singing :)
My choir only has two tenors and they are both female
I am the only tenor in my select choir at school.
Stephanie Kay 😂😂😂
Miranda allison ours was the opposite and I got put on Alto 😂
Honest first impression: that was fantastic! I’ve done the “elite”!choirs in HS and college. Decades later, I want to sing with these kids!
I’ve listened to this live before and it brought me to tears it’s honestly such an amazing song!!
Funny, my name is Elijah.Your choir did a great job.
Are you rocking?
I named my son Elijah because of this song!
@@bellemyjade686 oh fr that’s literally so cool
I've had this in my playlist since middleschool. It's my senior year, were actually singing this! I didn't even ask it's just too good!
i dont think ive ever heard anything that good in my ENTIRE life. It was amazing
This is the best Elijah Rock! Congratulation!
We used to sing this in high school 😍 I love this. They murdered this❤️🤗
My Vocal Ensemble is singing this of our March concert and we have about 18 singers. It's a difficult song for a small choir. And I thought this choir executed it excellently! The dynamics in this song were sang beautifully and the Sopranos weren't over powering. It sounded beautiful!.
I heard this sing by another school and i couldn't get it out my head and its so bomb
The altos KILLED it on this version.
The choir did a great job, I'm proud to have Elijah as my name!
You really came back 3 years later to comment that again 😭 you commented this 6 years ago then again 3
This makes my skin tingle every time I listen to it... absolutely brilliant
Learning this song in middle school coming out good 7th grade they sound amazing
chills, chills, chills :D
literally immaculate. this is coming from a choir kid. everything was exactly on point
Young folks always do this version better than the wobbly voices of their elders! Excellent.👍🏾
took me a minute and thirty seconds to realize it is a picture with sound recording instead of a video lol.
OH MY GOOD LORD DELUXE! Dees chern’ blew this piece clean off the cosmic map! And no director; so far as I could see! This is the most amazing performance ever. They had verve, suave, dynamic, cool, diction, just everything for a superlative rendition. The famous Morgan university choir arrangement pales in comparison. So glad I happened upon such distinguished young people. Bravissimo! Pwg
There was a Director--Dr. Jonathan Talberg from Cal State Long Beach
This is such an amazing piece especially the alto's
I sang this song in Concert Choir in high school back in 2010 as well. I was feeling nostalgic and listening to the repitoire of my high school days
A stunning performance
Wow! This is FANTASTIC!!!!
O. M. G.
I was thinking of my 5th grade choir singing this song and stumbled upon this video.
AMAZING!!! 💙
Great Rendition! 👍🏽
Loved every bit of it!
this is one of the songs my choir and I are going to be adjudicated on, and I'm so obsessed with it 😍😍
Wow such amazing voices, I sing with song as well in a choir and wow! You guys blew the crowd away. Good job altos and tenors very strong .
I love this song from my high school choir days.
Had it in my mind. Thanks for doing it justice
One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.....tears in my eyes
Senior year of high school, I won't forget performing this song. Bass 2, here.
Beautiful we are doing this song it's good to hear the Legends of this song
LOVE THIS! We're singing this in Honors Choir at school, and I'm really looking forward to it!
I love these guys ❤️❤️
I love this arrangement. It’s quite a bop
i lovwe this!
NEED MORE SOPRANO 1s that top note important in this piece. Those altos strong. Sound amazing still.
Wow! Takes me back to High School!
@neverunderestimateit this song is actually REALLY hard. I'm singing it in my high school choir, and this choir is AWESOME. The altos are spot on, and the vowels are supposed to be off for the different parts.
I remember signing this song back when I was choir so many great memories for me even singing it in bass so fun
Just did this performance! It was amazing!!!sung this Tonight! Wish we got a full video we were amazing!!!! 💕💕💕👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️😊as were yu as well
Our school choir loves doing this.
THAT SOPRANO 2 SECTION 😍😍😍
Best version I've found so far, a lot of other videos I wasn't able to hear all the harmonies in the women's parts, glad I found this one!
My high school choir was doing this around the same time, always loved this song. Am a Baritone.
aawesome piece!! I dont know who sung it better them or our chorus!! But I can see why the Elite chorus sings it!! Moses Hogan is a song Genius
Fantastic! Specially for a high school choir!
Beautiful!
I'm speechless
THIS IS PERFECT!!
la musique m'a sauvé la vie suite à un cancer que je combat depuis 9ans ,les melodies me font oublier les douleurs merci santé
I loved it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song takes me back to my days in chorus. We sung a version of this back in the late 90s. This choir sounds good
Love the dynamics
Loved singing this piece.Sang the real high D in the end.
Beautiful ! I discovered this song during my trip in NYC 2012, wandering around the campus, I entered a church and among other songs, one choir sang Elijah Rock... Same arrangement, same tempo... It took time to find it again cause I'm not used to that repertoire, finally I find your version : YOU DID ROCK ! Cheers from France. :)
I love this song...
Amazing!!!!!
Beautiful
Since thus was sung at a state competition, probably several choirs involved, so it would not be perfect just darn near! Good to all if you who make music part of your education. It will bless you all your days.
beautiful!!
Such a beautiful arrangement :)
Welcome! Maine AllState Choir! Blessings!
i love this song
Just went to a choir competition with my school and our chamber choir (the best of the best) just sang this song and it was the best thing I ever heard
