I'm Brazilian from the state Santa Catarina, and I have Luxembourgish citizenship too because of my ancestors. By the way, the souther region of Brazil has a good standard of living! I'm currently living in Portugal, but really miss my life back in SC, a true paradise.

I have another interesting fact. Brazil had 10 times more African slaves than the United States, and they also ended slavery without conflict in 1888. It was a law signed by Princess Isabel called "The Golden Law"

This is actually a myth. There's a myth about Brasil not being a racist country and everyone living here in peace. What you told is part of the myth. That's how history was taught back in the 80s and 90s. That's not how history is told today.
The law came to be not because, one day, a princess decided to free the slaves. It was a long process that involved the abolitionist movement and the slaves themselves fighting from freedom. There were hundreds of revolts from slaves in the years before the law was signed. Conflict was everyone and many of the "quilombos" communities from back them exist to this day.
Also, the law that came to be was not the law the abolitionists wanted. They planned to have a law with reparations to give the former slaves jobs and land, so they would have a place in society. But that didn't happened. Instead, Brazilian society ignored the black population and the government started a "whitening campaign" (look for "Branqueamento racial" on Wikipedia), by bringing European immigrants by the millions to Brazil and giving them land (while the former slaves got nothing).

And then the rich and powerful of the country who "lost" their slaves deposed the monarchy and created the republic, and have ruled in their own interests ever since.

There are several comments I'd like to make. Russia with its 17 million km2 is the biggest country on Earth, and it has double the size of Brazil but is a dictatorship (it has never been a democracy in its long history), and it has very serious racial, religious and political problems and speaks more than 30 different languages.
The second biggest country on Earth, Canada, it has always been a democracy, it has about 9,9 million km2, and has no racial or religious problem, and it speaks two languages, but it has three serious problems. (i)One of such problems is its demography which points out to sure trouble in the coming years. (ii) The other problem is its ridiculously small population size, and such ridiculously small population size creates its (iii) very serious political problem. Canada is for every practical purpose the 51st American state and it operates as an appendix of the American economy. I guess there are only two reasons why the Americans do not annex Canada for good. One, a secondary reason, is that in the event they incorporate Canada they will have to swallow the French Canadians, which are as cocky and smug as the original French, and the most important reason it is that while they allow the Canadians to nurture the illusion they are an independent country, they have a much weaker dollar, and then the Americans are able to buy Canadian goods at a much cheaper price. In the minute they annex it, the Canadian dollar will disappear and it will have to use American dollar and then such comparative advantage will disappear...
The third biggest country on Earth, is the United States with about 9,8 million km2, which has always been a democracy, and it faces currently extremely serious racial and social problems, and it speaks 2 languages, but it is facing the most serious challenge of its entire history, with the Democrats bidding to destroy the US, which, if the Republicans are not capable of stopping them, that is what they are going to achieve: total destruction of the United States. But whether the republicans are or not capable of stopping the never seen depredations the American left is doing, it is guaranteed that by the year 2100, the majority of the American people will speak Spanish, not English. English will be spoken by a minority of Wasps, and this enormous difference in the population size of the Spanish-speaking Americans will cause a devastation in the Congress, because the majority of the Senators and House Representatives will bear Spanish heritage, and will speak Spanish, and sessions in the Congress will be undertaken in Spanish, not in English. And the US will become one more Latin American banana republic. Again: the United States, never in its entire history has faced such a serious challenge as it is facing now. And make no mistake: it is an existential threat.
The fourth biggest country is China with about 9,5 million km2, and its 1,5 billion people. It is a dictatorship (like Russia, it has always been a dictatorship) and it has very serious racial, religious, political and economic problems, and to aggravate things a bit more, they speak more than one hundred different languages. The western media keeps saying China will surpass the United States' economy in the next decade or so, and I flatly challenge that theory. I think it is the other way around: we will have to see if China will continue to exist in the next decade, because the enormity of the challenges it faces is indeed truly gigantic.
And then we come to the 5th biggest country on Earth: Brazil. We are 210 million people, we do not have racial, religious or political problems (we have the normal fight between political parties which is the normal process in any democracy). And we speak only one language. We are different from the other big four countries in this matter (speaking only one language), and above all because we are the only tropical country among the five big countries, and it is not only that we are the only tropical country among the 5 big ones, it is that we are by far and without any term of comparison, the biggest tropical country on Earth. And We Brazilians are beginning the 21st century introducing three real game changers: (i) One is the fact that we are building two transcontinental roads linking Brazil to 6 different Pacific ports. That will produce tsunamic effects in the Brazilian economy, (ii) Brazil is for the first time in its history crisscrossing the country with efficient, modern railways, which will reduce logistics costs; and (iii) Brazil has mastered the tropics. For five hundred years the tropics worked against us (as the tropics works against all other tropical countries what explains why they are all, without exception, very poor countries), and we learned how to make the tropics work for us, not against us. Brazil is already one of the major food producers on Earth, but in the next 10 years we will become the biggest food producer on Earth. And we are self-sufficient in energy, self-sufficient in raw materials and minerals, and we have a sophisticated financial and banking system, with an efficient and independent Central Bank which knows its business (and as a matter of fact, the annual inflation rate in Brazil is far more civilized than that of many a European country).
So, I think that Brazilian women shows off their bodies much more than their European counterparts because of the weather and this is why feel feel that urge of making plastic surgery. The Swedish women does not go about in Sweden all year around nearly naked showing almost every thing as the girlies here tend to do. About infidelity, I really think you are being hypocritical gentlemen. We have this here, true enough, as there is the same thing in France and in Italy, etc. What is different I guess is the openness with which this subject is regarded here, but if you have good music, good dance, good food, good booze and nearly naked girls around, and the anonimity which 210 million people propitiates. I would suppose that infidelity in small town Sweden must indeed be a difficult issue in an environment where everybody knows everybody. But here, where nobody knows anybody, who cares?
I think what really should have "shocked" you is the fact that we have every single race on Earth living here, we have zillions of Arabs living here, zillions of Jews living here and we have never had any Arab here expliding himself in a synaguogue, or a Jew invading and shooting the people inside a mosque. Much to the contrary, they not only live in peace, which they do, it is far more impressive than that: they are truly friends.
And about this remark that the great majority of the Brazilians do not speak English. You are absolutely right. The majority of the Brazilians do not speak English, in the same way the great majority of the Japanese people do not speak English, as the great majority of the Russians do not speak English, the great majority of the Chinese do not speak English. You guys have to speak English to begin with because nobody else speaks Swedish, except the Swedish, and secondly because in the very least for the past two hundred years the Scandinavian countries have been tributaries first of the British Empire and hence had to learn English and then of the United States. Which speaks English as well. We Brazilians do not need to speak English as you need to speak english. For you it is a matter of life and death. If the english speaking world decides to turn their backs to you, in a matter of few years and you will be speaking another language too.
