    I don't think some people realize that people who own albino snakes are doing them favors. (people who know how to care for them) because they can't camouflage in nature because of their bright colors, they would be dead within days/weeks if they were in nature.

    • @redzgaming6880

      Anonymous Gravity Not to mention that with any species of animal,the albinos have bad vision.

      Animatotron not true it's a mutation AND can be genetic so it would be more rare but wouldn't just stop being in existence.

    • @pykamirulol
      @pykamirulol 6 років тому +3

      Albino's aren't really as natural as you're making them out to be.

    • @IsiTheGooseGirl17
      @IsiTheGooseGirl17 6 років тому +4

      『Za Planet』Well intentionally breeding albino traits isn't exactly natural, but albinism in and of itself is simply a spontaneous mutation. Spontaneous mutations are not inherently unnatural; if anything they are a vital part of nature; without them life as we know it could not exist. The difference is which mutations favor survival in a given environment and which ones do not.

    • @Sylan-ms9kj
      @Sylan-ms9kj 6 років тому

      Agreed though albinos don't happen very often in nature mostly through breeding programmes.

    My god these snakes are so beautiful. I'm a beginner I'm getting over my fear of snakes. I love the Gartner snakes I don't like the idea of feeding them rodents. They seem calm and perfect size for a beginner. Although I love those bigger snakes so pretty. 💗

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 7 років тому +5

      Garter snakes aren't really good for beginners, they also musk a lot (spray you with a bad smelling liquid). I recommend a corn snake or ball python. If it helps at all the rodents you feed them aren't live

    I have to say this was outstanding. you've helped me make a decision on what I should have and should never attempt to own. you were very knowledgeable with everything. so thank you..
    I've decided on the apparently popular hyper tangerine haundrian milk snake. the color is captivating very beautiful animal. I almost got some sort of Gartner snake because feeding them is so much fun and their diet ranges so widely. so my last to were the ball python or the milk but I've chosen the milk because of you once again thank you!

    In my opinion if you’re not going to feed the snake what it’s meant to eat than just don’t get a snake at all. Most snakes eat rodents and other mammals.

      I get what you mean, but if the snake is still healthy and can survive, is it really any different then a person eating vegetables over meat? Yes it isn’t the snakes preferred choice but neither is captivity

    • @prettyricky9676
      @prettyricky9676 5 років тому

      Garter snakes don't naturally eat rodents. They eat earthworms frogs fish and salamanders and toads(which they resist the poison of) in the wild. Captive bred ones will usually take rodents but i kept many wild ones very healthy on 90% nightcrawlers with the occasional amphibian treat. Sometimes would put minnows in their water and they go into it and catch them underwater.

    my first snake was a around 6 foot Burmese Python and i named her Lucile lol she was alot bigger when i had to part with her probably around 10 feet fully extended. Had her for 3 years she was so amazing. Had to move out of state and wasnt going to have the space or time to properly maintain her needs so i found a breeder in AZ where i was that was so happy to take her in and i still get updates to this day lol miss her so much but shes well taken care of and happy. Things have changed now years later and im seriously considering a Ball Python. Always been in love with snakes. People just dont know how much love and personality they have once tamed its incredible!!

    The rainbow boa is beautiful. Great advice though I do think should start with typical beginner snakes as you reference. Fairly low maintenance, easy feeders and easy to handle are what makes them starter snakes. It's all about getting the reps in. By the time you move on up, experience with basic care develops your patience and expectations, and the main objective is the care and health of the animal. These videos are really awesome and informative, and I enjoy the channel very much. I'd love to get a tour of place like this to get a good look at all those amazing snakes. I'm gonna need to search for the nearest one, I know there aren't any in my area like that.

      The chance of them escaping is too high honestly. I would never. The hot room would definitely never be hot enough. You would have to make the whole room like 90 degrees. You could lose them behind furniture. you could step on them. It is a minefield. Just buy an enclosure dude

    I'm so happy that you're showing off your Brazilian rainbows more often ! They are my favorite snake, and I love my little fellow to the moon and back. I've never met a snake with such an amazing attitude. He always gently takes his rats from me, and isn't even head shy! I'm hoping to get more in the future, with different colouring or morphs, although my little normal is gorgeous the way he is =)
    Although people warn against having them as first pet snakes, I've always been careful about his husbandry and thus been rewarded with an amazing pet.

    • @ninafrost0
      @ninafrost0 7 років тому

      Ailex Mercer OK here's the thing, if your mom just doesn't like them then trying to turn her into a snake lover is a bit much to ask of her. Try giving her all the benefits of owning a snake and explain how if you were to own one you would take sole responsibility for care of said snake. Also mention that if you get a snake you would be paying for everything and it would be kept in your room. Usually after buttering them up with facts about the Snake you want and how you plan to deal with all of the things having a pet would entail, if you say that she wouldn't even see the snake that often because it would be in you room, then she'll most likely give in. Parents like it when you take on responsibility. Trust me

      Well, I'm Christian. And snakes are the sign of the devil. Eve was met with a snake, possessed with the devil, and told to eat the forbidden fruit. THey then were aware of sin. So, my mom doesn't want me to have a snake. I think that not all snakes are the sign of the devil.

      ThatOtherNate can't you get a job? i was 13 when i got my first job, i earned £4 an hour, working at a local reptile shop. Bought my first snake for only £15. ($25) they're really not that expensive...

      It depends on the snake. A snake isn't a hobby it's a huge investment. You need a steady job to pay for its food and many other things. Certain snakes cost a bunch. I want a hognose or a ball python. :D So I'm saving up big time.

    • @cammcgrandle5940
      @cammcgrandle5940 9 років тому

      Yuki Aburame why is a ball python a big investment? depending on morph £40 for the snake and £40 setup. piss.

    • @yukiaburame5038

      Any kind of corn snake, whether it's albino or regular, will cost $50. The smallest aquarium size a corn snake may live in is 20 gallons. Top Fin® Glass Aquarium costs $26. For the lid, it says you need a lockable wire top, which is about $30 for one. For bedding, get Zoo Med Aspen Snake Bedding for $6 times about 20 for a year would be $120. For the bowl you can get either a small or large Exo Terra Water Dish for up to $15 depending on the size you get. For a hiding place, get Mac's Creatures & Critters Pet Refuge which, depending on what size you get, it ranges prices from $5-$14. For food, depending on what type mice you get, you buy Frozen Mice & Rats. For a corn snake, pinkie mice two 100 packs for a year. they'll be a total of $60. For heating, you will need to buy an under tank heat mat. The T-Rex Cobra Heat Pads costs $38. Altogether for a year of food and bedding, plus all the equipment, you get $353. So yes, this is a big investment. I mean as a display animal no it's not an investment, it's a decoration. But as a pet yes it's a huge investment. And for an 11 yr old that's ALOT. Well for anyone that's a lot. It's hard ( I would imagine) as an 11 yr old to find a job that pays that much. But for young snake lovers the biggest problem is the parents, not the money. I'm not trying to argue with anyone. I'm just trying to help.

    • @frockz69
      @frockz69 6 років тому +1

      Not really. Snakes don't really need to be handled, most species prefer if you don't. When you handle a snake too much, it can get stressed out and stop eating or delay a shed or bite you or even die. Snakes are definetly on the lower maitenance end, they don't need that much work to care for them unless you live somewhere really cold and not humid. I live somewhere thats very hot and extremely humid so it's not a problem.

    Brian, I wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how much your show snakebites means to my kids (I skip the not so kid friendly stuff). A little over a year ago my oldest son, Reuben, (now 8) asked if he could have a pet snake. Having been raised to think all snakes were dangerous I quickly told him no. But then I decided to do a little research because he really really wanted one. I came across snakebites on youtube and through watching your show I came to realize that snakes are great pets and many of them are super sweet and docile and nothing to be afraid of at all. So my happy little boy now has a sweet little corn snake named Kai, I have a hog island boa named Isaiah & my husbands red tail boa, Ziva, arrived this week. My 4 yr old is picking out a gecko at a local reptile show next month and he is sooo excited! We are a reptile loving family thanks to you. Keep up the awesomeness!!!

    Hey Brian, love your videos. I had a question about Brazilian Rainbow Boas. I own a ball python, my first snake, and for my second I was considering a rainbow. I did a lot of research and nothing I read mentioned anything about their sensitivity to humidity. One of the pet shop owners I've talked to said I wouldn't have to worry about humidity as much since I live in Southern California and the weather makes it good in that regard. So I've never had to worry about humidity much, I've just put some moss in the terrarium when my ball python needs to shed. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think I'm ready to graduate to a rainbow? Thanks!

    I had to red-sided feed garter snakes for this lab before. We would feed them worms or sardines (I think), but it was kind of funny when the worms would dangle and they would jerk their heads around trying to grab it lol. We got to see their babies, too- very cute.

    OK, I got an interesting situation over here that you may or may not ever heard of, but I figured I would drop u a line, since you are so knowledgeable. I have 7 balls right now ranging from 1.5 months - almost 1 year (in a few days.) I bought him older than the others, but have owned over 4+ months now. I know the ropes, but this is unlike anything I can find out about online or figure out myself, even the reptile guy was wrong at the local store (let me explain.) I have two baby balls, not related, that I bought close to the same time, so since we are going to an expo next week, I took a vivarium, since I do have MPI cages too, that really aren't much better than the full glass tanks all set up right in keeping in warmth and humidity, but I keep the whole upstairs the right temp. for them. (warmer than the main floor, basement etc.) BUT I do have one viv. split in 1/2 right now with glass for my 1st two balls, they never ever seemed to care or notice each other and are extremely well adjusted 'dog-like' ball pythons. I trust them 1,000%. One of my two new balls are fiesty and strikey, and if he were my 1st I may not have grown my addiction, but he was not, and I am not scared like I once was anymore, though I hope he will grow out of it. So they have been here only 2.5 weeks or so, and my husband has a temporary separation for their vivarium until the show, and my female kept managing (she's much tinier, though the breeder claims the male is the same age, I think he is off a month, as she is far smaller and a female, so I'd say she s 1.5 mo and he is 2.5 mo. now about.) She is a super sweet girl, but this issue of trying to get over is very recent.
    My husband would fix any issue but still somehow she'd get thru. He has no visible interest in getting to her side, but she started waking me all night fighting to get into his. Can't believe she could make noise at her size, but I am a light sleeper, and I sleep alone up here since this occurred to keep an eye out. Every time I woke up, she would be on his side with him in his hide, side by side or if it had to be, somewhat on top, but she has 3 HIDES, lots of bushes to hide in also, they both have the same hot spots, although the reptile manager said yesterday, to try switching their sides. That it's not 'snake love' and cuddling, but her just preferring his side/ hot spot. OK... so after her fighting all yesterday (no longer just at night), she is trying all day and night and getting into there eventually, so IDK, she used to sleep in her own hide fine, but again, a recent thing, and nothing changed to make this happen, and he didn't say anything about me needing to worry about mating at such very, very young ages at all, which I am glad there is no worry there YET, but eventually there would be, so I know this isn't good, but like he said, I took the sides last night and changed everything around so she gets his side/ hot spot as there might be a slight difference she likes and that this is ALL THAT IT CAN BE. I asked about dominance, although I know they are not dogs, and she is smaller snake and a female and he is the larger male and certainly has scared me, so I also was very scared about him eating her, but obviously, that isn't happening by now, but of course, my big concern, so I could get a tub until either we get something else or do decide to glass up this cage, I am just afraid she is always gonna year to get over to him, and that this could be stressing him out although in the hide together right now, he does not appear stressed, no heavy breathing etc. But I have taken the hide off and put her back several times now and she goes batty to try and get over again, which is very difficult, but she has made it. Now it was kind of an experiment to see if she'd be happy on her NEW SIDE, HIS FORMER SIDE ONLY YESTERDAY AND NOPE!!!!
    So, if there is no snakey love, why is she acting like Juliet trying to get to Romeo so badly. It's not an older boy or any boy fighting to get to a female it is her, and she's like 80 grams maybe by now.. maybe. Just weird lol. I feel bad because I know they are in fact smarter than some people claim and I do have balls that enjoy my handling, getting out, and none of mine don't enjoy some interaction, some just less so than some others, but if they are such solitary creatures, why is this happening???? ANYBODY?? I believed the guy at the shop that there was nothing feeling wise, OK, and I never witnessed that b4 so it made sense, but his theory got debunked now.. how do we know know and what else could it even be????? I know the risks of housing ANY two snakes together. I never plan on doing that.. I don't wanna see her stressed, so I may have to permanently separate beyond glass and her very own space, but why is this even occurring? I'm eyeballing some vision cages as my babies grow, but i am going to rep. show on the 10t,h, might get some good deals on something there again, I just am at a loss? Yeah, it appears cute to a girl like myself, but I don't want him stressed. He did snap when I took her away one time. IDK.. LOL. (Then again, I do call him jaws as he bit me during the unboxing, lol.) I know they are not humans, but I do see behavior that has gone against ball theory b4 by people, zero offense here, I am talking about behavior some may miss, who maybe have hundreds of balls in rack systems and don't handle and get to know every snake like I have and do. IDK..I spend time handling each of them and I know their personalities. I didn't want the 'jaws' to hurt my little Athena cutie-pie, but he doesn't mind her at all. They both ate separately the other day.. same day she went over to my horror i see a pie bald with a black face that was not his coming out of the hide, lol. I am at a loss.

    Great list! I've got a hognose as a starter snake myself and they are very great, especially since they are very hardy and don't really bite. Glad to see you've got some love for the Garter's too! There's not enough love for them. I certainly want to try to get myself a Red-Sided Garter one day.
    One snake I wish you went over were the Children's Pythons or Spotted Pythons. Ball Pythons often have an issue with being picky or going on food strikes, which can especially be a problem for beginners that don't know to check with the seller with how they fed the snake previously. They are very docile and sweet and low maintenance pretty much equivalent to that of a corn snake if just with slightly higher temperatures. Plus, they are fairly small and manageable! The only really difficult thing about them is trying to find someone that sells them
