Brian! I hope you or your staff read this. FedEx is a big NO. please. I worked there. I've seen people toss boxes as hard as they could. Fragile meant nothing! Please be careful, I'm only telling you for the safety of your scaley babies.

Honestly it doesn't matter who you use to ship packages. My dad used to work for the post office, they use 0 care there as well. I don't know if they do it for packages as well, but for letters they send them through a conveyor belt that moves so fast, certain parcels get slammed against walls, or shredded because they weren't placed on the belt correctly.

i worked at fed ex a few years ago in one of the package sort buildings, and i wouldn't recommend shipping live animals through ANY general package courier, because package handlers simply aren't paid enough to where they will give a shit if your package is "fragile" or damaged or not or requires special treatment. when you are working for poverty wages, a box is a box, and after enough days on the job, you simply couldn't care less.
the building where i worked, people would throw boxes every day, and no one cared because you're simply not going to care while working in poverty for a multi billion dollar corporation, and they couldn't fire anyone because the turnover rate was so extremely high that people kept quitting in droves and management was always struggling to keep people from quitting, nevermind firing people and risking retaliation.
personally, I've alway thought that any live animals should be shipped through special carrier services specifically made for that purpose, not general package delivery services where most "fragile" things will likely be damaged because people aren't paid to where they will care.

I got my first Ball Python today, a Blue Eyed Leucistic, and while she was super good-natured in the shop, she was a bit stressed out and scared when I went to put her in the tank - was hissing and puffing up at me. I just let her come out the bag on her own and now she looks a lot happier now that she's in her hide. Looking forward to be able to handle her within the next week. :D Nice video, Brian!

neep sheep congrats!! my snake is also leucistic, make sure you use just a heat bad under your tank, if you want a lamp, get a ceramic that doesn't produce light, lucies sunburn easily!! I wish someone had told me this when I first got my snake, he didn't burn but he retained 2 sheds in a row, he's okay now ;]

Personally I'd prefer to buy at a show/expo so I can have a chance to check it out, see how it reacts to me before purchasing. But even so, jotting down their number/email for any further questions would be a good idea.

Oh my God!! I remember when my colombian was that small!
In my experience with a colombian rainbow boa, they need higher humidity because of their natural environment; the amazon rainforest.
I use reptile carpetting to avoid molding when coupled with a humidifier that keeps the tank closer to 100 than 50, retained sheds are common for rainbow boas, they need moisture.

Hey Brian, I just started watching your videos and it's awesome especially the "what Snake I should get" ones. It's been my dream to have a pet Snake and I'm getting close to the age where I can start looking to invest in one. One thing I would look forward to a video on is different body shapes of snakes. Like the head of a python is more defined than the head of a cornsnake, which is rounder and less defined. I was wondering if there were smaller snakes then the boa or python that had that defined head, because I do love the look of a ball python but I was something a little more active and smaller.

This is amazing info Brian thank you so much! Quick question for youtube: I was given two snakes that are basically adults so they'd been handled but my issue is that these snakes were adopted. Is this process that Brian outlines here a good way to get them acclimated to their new environment? These are my very first snakes and I am nervous about messing things up for them especially since they had already been with a family for a long time.

Oh my goodness Brian, thank you so much for putting out such a nice basic video how to settle in a new pet snake. I do think letting the baby keep striking at your hand as you spoke was a bit of a misstep though. It sort of displayed the opposite of what you were so sensibly promoting in saying not to stress the baby out as you were kind of letting the baby stress out as your other hand moved back and forth in front of its face. I think we the viewers would happily forgive you for taking that extra moment and breaking you train of thought to divide your attention to the un-boxed snake and getting it perhaps turned away from your other hand, then continuing. Yer a Pro Dude, you can do it all.....=D

I have a few snakes and other pets, and i just love them so much the thought of losing them nags at me. My biggest fear is that one of these days I'll be at work and some heat sorce, whether it's a heat lamp or heat pad or just a short in an outlet, will catch my house on fire and take them all. So I was wondering if you have some sort of fire rescue plan for all of your reptiles in the case that your shop were to catch fire. How would you get them out?

I'm looking into getting a Ball Python as my first snake, but there are so many morphs to choose from it can be overwhelming. (especially seeing the price tag on some morphs!) I've also heard Brian say that he's known some morphs to be more high-strung and nippy. Is there any ball python morph that's characteristically calm and easy to handle? Also, I know that younger snakes can be more apt to bite, so is it better for a first time snake owner to start off with a young/baby snake, or an adult? Thanks!

I have a question, I'm not sure if you can help out, there's not a vet in my area who treats snakes. I just recently got a full grown Ball Python. He was rescued by my local fire dept, out of burning building. He sat at the police station for almost a week, and no one came to claim him. I'm decent at taking care of animals so I took him in. For the first week he didn't eat, Then on day 9 he took a frozen/thawed feeder mouse, but, he hasn't eaten since, and we're going on day 18. I tried to feed him again but he's not interested. I know I should be concerned, but I am missing a step some were, or is there something else I should be trying?

I have a question, he talks about inspecting your snake for parasites, but how exacting do you tell if a snake is carrying a parasite? I'm getting my first snake soon and this is the one thing I'm unsure about.

    • @psychedelicstrawberry1074
      @psychedelicstrawberry1074 7 років тому

Indigo if your snake has a parasite it won't look healthy best thing to do is research what they can get and how to tell usually eyes are a big way of telling if your snake is healthy or the way their scales feel but best way is researching and observation even after their in their cage

I assume he is mainly talking about external parasites like mites. When you take the snake out check under the chin, around the eyes, and look at your hands to see if there are any small blackish colored bugs crawling around. If there is you probably should put it in a temporary enclosure.

I'm omw to get my first ball python today. Had a corn snake for 8 years and have a leopard gecko now. Unfortunately the python is from a pet shop but I felt the need to buy it so it doesnt go home to someone that doesnt know what they're doing

Bryan you should start breeding rubber boas and help them become more common as pets

I saw a ball python at a store a few months ago and it was a beauty. I don't know what the name of the molt was. It was black and red, very vivid colours. And now I'm pretty sure she was cheap as hell because it was 120 bucks and I can't find another one like that

That's what got me confused. I'm pretty sure that it said "Python" on the cage. All I know is that it was red and black, very rough scales and the head was shaped like a python
