Another great video as always. It's a shame that Smithers thought Shames was going to be competition because let's face it they are about as direct competition as Golden and Revelstoke are... Also a bit sad that neither expanded to their true potential as world-class resorts in NW BC either because the geography is spectacular up there... And not nearly as crowded as the Banff's and Whistler's...
Exactly. It was the same argument with Mt. Hays up in Prince Rupert (just wait until that video comes out haha). In a nutshell, the mayor of Prince Rupert had a personal vendetta against the mountain (it was town-owned), and even though the area saw enormous success with summertime gondola rides and winter skiing, he shut it down with no further consideration. An argument he made was that the town-run ski area lost business to Shames up in Terrace. I'm actually mad that Mt. Hays was closed, as with all the cruise ships that dock in PR now, Mt. Hays could have become a really unique, profitable operation.
As a resident of both prince rupert and terrace its very sad we don't have the hays gondola anymore. Biking in the summer with a gondola would have been amazing.
The snow at Shames is insane! Really cool to see its origins
This is amazing. I grew up skiing and racing on Kitsumkalum. Thanks for putting this together!
Will you be doing a video on blue mountain ski area in Utah?
