    Sophie you are my new favorite youtube sailor!!! Morale and food are two of my main concerns about planning an ocean crossing, so thankful you have created this series!

    Two forms of anxiety..1) free floating..meaning nervous energy with no job to do..so put it to use. 2) more common anxiety is always about a future whether next minute, day, or longer..it is always about future..never present moment. Get in the present moment. Its hard to stay positive if persons around are down. Hats off to you Sophie. Its just as hard on you too. Your spirit shines and your awareness to try to lift others lifts you as well. Love you guys. Stay safe and ENJOY the journey.

    When you said, "Time to make more bacon bread," the look on your face - that smile with a bit of pain - broke my heart a little. That said, I would watch the heck out of a Sophie Cooks At Sea channel. You lifted my spirits too!

    The member of the crew who makes the effort to ensure that all member's spirits and attitudes remain high are as integral to the success of a passage as the captain and navigator. You have always been a strong team, but each plays an important role for the success and safety of the others. Truly Ryan and Sophie sailing +1. Documenting and sharing such a personal experience simultaneously is next level. Avancer

    Another great and challenging episode guys, it is great to see people sharing the difficult (normal) situations that we end up in and how our own brain can try to screw us over, but that can all be washed away witha bit of empathy, Tirimisu and Bacon Bread, top work Sophie.

    Oh, Ryan, sweetie, I'm so so sorry! But please look at it as a HUGE win, you are doing SO much better now than 2 years ago!
    I have panic attacs and my meds just...(having a mental pause here) changed my life. From debilatating to excellent. From "let me die" to "I want to LIVE!" My medication turned me into a emotional zombie for a year, but it turned and made me a normal person with no panic. I still have worries, but I dont get frozen up or totally bedridden by them.
    Good luck, you are such a sweet person, I don't want you to feel this EVER again.

    That was a very French way of making sailorized Tiramisu, combined with a very Italian way of sticking to the no-booze-on-passage rule ;)

    Makes you wonder just how the hell did Joshua Slocum sail around the world solo with an old wooden boat that he rebuilt himself. He did it with no engine, no electricity, no electronics, no stainless steel, no synthetic sails or lines and only a sextant, an old hand wound alarm clock with no minute hand and a life time of sailing experience.

    Awesome vid as usual. Been watching you guys since the beginning. Glad you are so real about everything that goes on and you actually sail. Unlike some others on the tubes... Anyway, I am wondering if you can walk through in an upcoming vid as to why it takes a half hour to jibe the boat. Looks like you drop the pole, furl, jibe, unfurl, and then reattach the whisker pole. Wondering why you have to furl and not just drop the pole, jibe, and reattach the pole. On another note, I look forward to your vids each week because its November here in MN and as Ryan knows being from IA, the water starts to get hard this time of year and my boat is in storage until probably late April. Keep it up!!

    • @RyanSophieSailing
      @RyanSophieSailing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Dan! You are 100% correct about the gybing process. The reason why we need to furl is because we have an emergency forestay right behind the primary forestay. so the pole needs to be droped and remounted on the other side, with control lines redone. Same with the main, we need to untie the preventer and re-tie it on the other side. It does not always take half an hour, but when the sea state makes the boat roll (which it did a lot in the Northern Atlantic due to crazy gulf stream currents), we need to take the time it takes to keep everyone and everything safe. Hence sometimes up to half an hour.

    Brilliant videos as usual. I have been really looking forward to these past few episodes & how the extra crew would work out. I guess that before she came on board she must have asked what her job would be. You obviously told her that her principle tasks would be to do all the sea sickness, eating and sleeping. It is clear that she has completed these tasks very well because she seems to have done very little else.This has enabled more time for you & Ryan to have more time for work, cooking etc. Although shore side she has helped out with the partying, which must be a boon to you and Ryan. Good on her. definately a crew to be recommended.😁.

      Someone needs to go on the foredeck to drop the pole and change the control line. It does not always take half an hour, but when the sea state gets the boat to rock and roll, we gotta take our time to make sure everyone and everything is safe. With the crazy gulf stream currents in the Northern part of the Atlantic, the motion of the boat was quite rolly. In a calm sea state, gybing goes substantially faster.

    • @RyanSophieSailing
      @RyanSophieSailing  2 роки тому +1

      It's a bit of both. In order to gybe with this configuration, someone needs to go on the foredeck to lower the pole and change the control lines. So we wouldn't let anyone go on the foredeck without someone checking them out.
