You can get by with using a table saw in place of a jointer if you know what you're doing. For a DIY just building your own you won't need a planer either if you're getting your wood from a box store. This guy is probably making them to sell.
I love it. I'd use wood screws and wood glue in place of those brad nails but it was a quick effective build. I see some guys complaining about the jointer and planer but if your getting your wood from a big box store you really don't need them. Looks like he's refurbishing wood that may be warped or a bit damaged. You can use a table saw in place of a jointer if need be. Believe it or not people used to do that by hand. They still sell those exact hand tools at any box store and are affordable.
Sloe wine is delicious! We have an abundance of them here in Ireland, and I generally wait until after the first frost to pick them, as it's supposed to turn some of the harsh starches into sugar. I have 2 recipes, one which includes a home made red wine, so I try to save some sloe wine for this. Dangerously nice!
I love drinking wine during a project using power tools! I don't get to do it so much anymore. Might have something to do with the reason people call me "lefty" now.... 🙂
I want this to be my first project. I love how you did the sides not too sure on the top and bottom though I might want to reinforce the bottom part and the top sharper cuts so they fit tight up against each other over all this is the easiest way I've seen it done.
It’s one of the best pallet wood projects I’ve seen in a while. Thank you for sharing. However, no glue and no screws? I can’t see that box lasting long.
Love this. Waiting for my wood work shop to arrive soon. Can’t wait to get started on a new hobby. Going to definitely try this. Only problem is that it is very hard to find pallet wood in my area.
Looks great, I just noticed your lock was installed incorrectly, Screws should be behind the metal. Otherwise anyone can remove 3 screws and open chest apart. I like that you used planer and sander to make the wood looking perfect. Good way to repurpose the pallets. I will definitely try it and recycle my pallets
Careful with your selection of pallet wood, not all is equal, pallets painted should be avoided as they contain chemicals in the material. Also pay attention to stamps on the outside of the pallets, avoid those labelled MB, MBL or MLB as they contain methyl bromide
I agree with you it looks great, but I think the bottom is not strong enough. The bottom is only held by some nails. Any more weight in that storage chest and the bottom will come off.
That's the least of his worries, the bottom will drop out as soon as anything is stored in it, also would have been nice to see a bit of glue used, the large screws concealed, and sprayed behind the catch. 👍
It's a brilliant box and great to watch. I'm still looking forward to seeing these types of things being done with minimal tools coz the fancy expensive power tools are out of reach for a lot of people.
I like the concept, but if you are planning on keeping anything heavy in it for any length of time, your bottom is going to fall out. The bottom needs to be reinforced with something other than staples or brad nails.
Thank You for sharing!! It is really awesome work and come back to it to build one just like it. It would be perfect for right by my bed for linens and things.
I made a foot locker box for my nephew using all sorts of scrap wood that came from a wood bed, part of my brother in law's garage he tore down, some came from a pallet. I made it work and it came out great. From a guy that didn't know what he was doing. Now I have a air nailer the next box I made came out even better. I don't have a planer so all my box's look ruststic looking.
It looks pretty neat, but the handles on the side are not able to be used to lift it. But the jointer makes the roughness go away, I used my handplaner just last week for the first time and I was baffled how beautiful wood turns out after you plane it. Doing it 'yourself' is really an experience ;)
I watch a lot of these videos and it never fails, they don't fill in the mail holes with wood filler, I would take a little more pride in my work and do that! To me it's like they are more interested in making them fast than nice!
I would say this man here looks like he takes pride in his work and think the project looks really nice. Just because someone doesn’t use your methods doesn’t mean there’s no pride taken.
You're taking them apart wrong. You gotta use leverage to lift them off the nails. You'll get a number of split ends, but if you cut those off you have mostly usable wood.
At 10:00, you are routing in the wrong direction, that is why the router is kicking so much. You're supposed to go against rotation, like on a table saw, but you are going with the direction of rotation, which is called climb cut, and the router is trying to jump out of your hands. Couple that with holding your fingers that close to the blade insted of on the handle, well... Let's just say I'm not surprised by the missing finger.
I'm gonna make and sale these on the weekends at a vendors row..Don't have any plans but I don't really need them I can just about wing it on exact measurements I get the idea so ill manage. I think these would flip easily 🤔
Pallets in my area are mostly plywood now not solid wood and many delamintes at the ends. It will take a lot of effort to deconstruct the pallets to save all the component parts unless you saw through much of it. Nails hold on so tight some will break into pieces that you might just use a saw.
Buscando como hacer un baúl antiguo, me acabo de encontar con este video que es una maravilla y como tengo unos palets desarmados aprovecharé su maestria y lo haré.
Guy has an awful lot of faith in a brad nailer and doesn't like glue, evidently. I would have stained it before attaching the hardware, but that's just me.
I love it when the pallet recycling videos start out with, "First, put the wood through your professional grade joiner and planer!"
I've seen people do it with cheap jointers and planers and it looks good too
Me too everyone has these tool don’t they?
You can do the same thing with a sander or use just sanding paper. 🤣
Ho pensato la stessa cosa, e lo stavo scrivendo. Tutto troppo facile.
You can get by with using a table saw in place of a jointer if you know what you're doing. For a DIY just building your own you won't need a planer either if you're getting your wood from a box store. This guy is probably making them to sell.
Love it, I would've used glue along with your fasteners for a more sturdy and long lasting build. Ty for the upload.
Alot of hateraide on here- It's pallet wood. The man took trash and repurposed it into something that can be used.
Right! People acting like they want that chest to hold a dying sun in there 😂
Nice project. I like how you used so many wood jointing techniques. It gives us hope that we too can build a wood chest.
Yup! My kind of project! No words needed in this video! Perfect!
It’s nice to hear people explain what they’re doing and how to do it.
i'm just jealous coz you make a wonderfull job bravoooooooooo beautifull , good job
Cool box. Liked the chisel wobble technique for hinge recesses and all of the other techniques.
That's beautiful chest blanket or pillow chest that would work fabulous
I love it. I'd use wood screws and wood glue in place of those brad nails but it was a quick effective build. Bravissimo falegname ! complimenti e un cordiale saluto da Luciano il perugino (Italia) 😀🍀
Very Nice Chest and Makes a Great Heirloom for a Family to pass on.
It’s pretty and decorative . It won’t last long though if you actually use it.
@@TeddyR_Official if wood glue was used, maybe a bit longer.
But with using all brad nails I was thinking just the same.

Good simple 👌🏽

I thought the same so trawled the comments to see if anyone else agreed, Glue, Glue, Glue !

Very nice project. Very inspirational. I can think of a hundred ways to utilize and change this project. Thanks for you idea and inspiration.

I wouldn't trust putting much weight in it with those finish nails holding the bottom boards on.
It's a brilliant box and great to watch. I'm still looking forward to seeing these types of things being done with minimal tools coz the fancy expensive power tools are out of reach for a lot of people.
Semplicemente stupendo!!!! complimenti bravissimo!!!👏👏👏

Should have at least used glue
@@jameschester3986 Exactly. I was thinking the same thing throughout the build. Nice box though.
I think atleast some screws and glue would add alot more strength to the project, but the build was good.
Complimenti!!! Molto bella, vedrò di copiare il progetto!!

simple, just what Ive been looking for
it seems like some one already had an encounter with a saw -- woow -- keep up the good work congrats
I can't finish any project whatsoever until I baptise it in my blood. :-(
Simple and beautiful 🇵🇸❤️🕊
I love it

Precioso👏👏👏👏me enamoro el cofre de mis sueños 😍
You make a lot of interesting furniture that i have seen out pallets you are the best.

I kept watching thinking it would get better. This is a great beginners project for sure. Not very good skills, but A for effort.
beautiful job i hope i can make one as good as yours
This is nice. Just what i was thinking of making and now i see how to do it .
Good job. Spray paint / dye before adding the hardware & hasp fixings need to be behind the plate for security.👍
Viendo sus videos e aprendido mucho más de carpinteria, e guardado muchos de sus videos para hacerlos
I have always wanted to make a trunk, i guess its time i do it. Thanks for sharing.

very nice project. I might give this one a try.
This is a great video to base projects off of

Great video and finished product. Most people don't have a jointer or a planer.
You can just use a hand planer, it won’t come out perfectly square but I’ve just finished making one and it’s identical
Fantastic good job! Greetings from México
Excelent video

Really impressive! Nice decorative piece
Wow, free handing the curved rabbet like a boss! good work, like it a lot but why no glue?

me encanto el trabajo, como quisiera hacerme uno, es posible que pueda publicar las medidas de los cortes por favor!!
Awesome. Now you just need to fill it with treasure and bury it on an island😀
muy bueno pero para que lo del candado si les deja los tornillos hacia afuera cualquiera lo puede abrir eso va escondido...
Quedo bien hecho el cajón. Saludo de New Jersey.
With most pallets you'd be lucky to get four usable pieces of wood.
You're taking them apart wrong. You gotta use leverage to lift them off the nails. You'll get a number of split ends, but if you cut those off you have mostly usable wood.
