M&P Shield Plus & 1000 Rounds !

- I had the pleasure of taking a California Compliant Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus out to the rang along with 1000 rounds of Browning 115gr Full Metal Jacket ammo.

The first thing I did when I got my hands on it was see if it would fit my Smith & Wesson Shield 9 Holsters, and was happy to find out it does! Afterwards I began to compare the M&P Shield Plus to the Original M&P Shield. The plus model has a 10 round capacity while maintaining almost the same size as the original M&P Shield with the flush fitting mag. Compared to the 7 rounds we get with the original M&P Shield 9. The next difference was immediately apparent upon picking up the Shield Plus. The grip texture is much more pronounced. I like it, and compared to the original grip texture id say its a major improvement. Its not so aggressive that its uncomfortable while carried inside the wristband, and it does provide an excellent grip while shooting.

The next major upgrade is experienced while shooting the new M&P Shield Plus. The TRIGGER! When compared to a factory original M&P Shield trigger it is immediately evident that Smith & Wesson completely redesigned the trigger. The plus models trigger is lighter, less take-up, and very crisp break. Aside from the trigger Smith & Wesson also used a different material composition, including the addition of Stainless Steel components not seen in the original M&P Shields.

The 1st 100 rounds went way faster than I anticipated, and is the main reason I always bring more ammo than I think I'll shoot. The Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus is definitely a top choice for CCW/EDC. Concealed Carry.

Considering that my main use for this size gun is Concealment due to its size. I primarily focused on drawing from the holster, and placing hits on steel. I quickly burn through half the 1000 rounds of ammo practicing my draw.
With the rain starting to come down we packed it up for the day, and returned the following day to picture perfect range day weather.

Even though I don't prefer to carry on an empty chamber I do incorporate it into my training as a sort of malfunction drill. When it comes to needing to defend yourself in a self defense situation you may not always have 2 free hands, and that's why practicing with you'r non dominant hand is important.
I know I need to work on my left hand, and that's why I practice.

As I started to get to the 750 round I mark I decided to start playing with the swinging plate for some moving target practice. It is quite fun. At this point I'm comfortable with the gun, and confident in its reliability.

I finished off the last 7 rounds onto my swinging plate, and came to the conclusion that the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus is a significant upgrade over the original Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9. I like that they focused on providing a nice trigger as it really makes the shooting experience much more enjoyable. It is more accurate than me.

Below I have added some information on the California Handgun Roster. In short its an unconstitutional law that only negatively impacts law abiding citizens in the state of California. They have the idea that making things illegal will keep criminals from having/using etc them, but they fail to acknowledge the fact that a criminal by definition doesn't follow the laws. Basically again only law abiding citizens are impacted.

Things like magazine capacity limitations. With the frequency of crimes involving multiple attackers 10 round magazines put the victim at a direct disadvantage. That's why training is critical.

Thanks to Boland v. Bonta new handguns are being added to the California Handgun Roster Again.

The California Handgun Roster is a list of handguns authorized to be bought, sold, lent, given, or manufactured within the State of California. This list, officially labeled Handguns Certified for Sale is organized and maintained by the Office of Attorney General of the State of California.
The Roster falls under California Penal Code sec. 31900, et seq. (see below).

The California Handgun roster is a particularly onerous piece of legislation that came onto the landscape in an almost Trojan Horse type of fashion. It was seemingly proposed as a safety measure, ostensibly intended to address the proliferation of pistols from “Ring of Fire” manufacturers. These companies included such brands as Lorcin Engineering, Davis Industries, and others, all headquartered around the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The plan did not work as intended, however. All those pistols passed with flying colors. In fact, they were among the first batch of pistols to be approved. In essence this law - frequently described as unconstitutional and with racist origins - infringes on the rights of law-abiding California citizens to own certain firearms.

Firearms that are perfectly legal in the rest of the country....

Thanks for the video! I'm waiting to pick one up myself. I'm waiting to see it in FDE then I'll pick it up. As far as carry goes, personally I think the Shield line is second to none.
The shield line definitely has a well deserved reputation due to the epic reliability. They are absolute workhorses. My buddy also really likes FDE, and has one for his primary EDC. He likes the hybrid kydex leather holsters like I do, and they’re rough on the slide finish. He’s had it cerokoted recently, and it seems to be withstanding the abuse he dishes it 😂. @@dirtybirdusa I'm rocking gen 1 Shield FDE with a we the people holster and claw for my edc!👍 Can't go wrong. The Shield plus is nice but you can get mag guts springs to increase capacity.
Have the first gen but haven’t got to test the Plus!
I really like the new trigger, and the extra capacity. Aside from that the grip texture is way way better than the original.
What ammo would be the best for new shield plus?
I had a great experience with browning 115gr FMJs, but I honestly think it would do well with most 115-124gr ammo.
is the recoil a bit better , i tried the older one a while back and felt like it was super snappy :-/
In my opinion it’s about the same. It is slightly heavier due to the capacity, and that should help mitigate some of the recoil, but I’d say it’s close to the original version. Thanks for watching I appreciate you!
