Well I was waiting to see this series, and you did not disappoint ❤ What a trooper, you made quite the challenge to conquer there, but you did it. Looking forward to watching the rest. Your luck on finding lost items lately has been great, needle, selfie stick remote…Thanks for the awesome video.
Hahaha thanks sue. Speaking of… This past weekend I actually lost the tripod remote once again, and somehow mysteriously found it. Are we going on trip this year ?? Lmk. Cheers!
Hello 👋 Christina, greetings from Northern California. It's good to see you again. Where do you get all of your energy? Unfortunately there are shoe stores out on the trail. I'm recovering from a health issue. Your video is a major motivator to get myself in shape and get out to the Northern California hiking trails. All the best to you. Stay safe and healthy out there. 🤗 👋
Hi Ronald! It’s so good to hear from you. I’m so sorry that you were having health issues. I have been going through some as well. I’m glad that I can be of some assistance to you and providing motivation. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Cheers.
Locals are the best at Gamble Lake, we shelter you in storm, we feed you automattic. And we definatly got beers, for your return of course. Been a big fan since Red Squirrel! Can't wait for part 2
Lol. I’ve never been offered any of those things that I know of but good to know that’s an option. Thank you for your continued and loyal support. I greatly appreciate it. All of the links are there if you’re interested and you look for them. Cheers!
Beautiful day, that was a slog. For being on a trail, its a picturesque spot. I cant believe you found the needle 😮 cant wait to continue watching your adventures!
Elk Lake has a hotel?! Lol love that little village some great fishing there too on Montreal River. That was a rough portage. Good job fixing those shoes- proverbial needle in a haystack. Thanks for sharing your trips :). Heading to Temagami for 3. Nights tomorrow :)
It is classified as a motel and cottages place, not quite a hotel, but it was quite lovely. There is a rougher portage coming in part three. Hope you have an amazing trip! Be safe. 😊
What a slog. Good for you Looking forward to the remainder of the videos. I was a Jr. Ranger in that area back in 1969 and have been back a few times. Very rugged country
Thank you Clifford. If you want to skip ahead, all of the links for the videos are at the end of each video and in the description. Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Cheers.
I don’t believe drones are permitted in Ontario parks and I wouldn’t be able to carry it and all the gear that comes with it on these type of trips all by myself. But I appreciate the suggestion. I don’t really have a choice of if I do the portage or not? I have to get through or I have to go back to where I came from and I’m definitely not doing that. Thanks so much for watching. It’s good to hear from you. Cheers.
yup live and learn re that portage but at least you wernt lost. Can not blame you for pitchin the tent and what a great spot beside the wee waterfall i could fall asleep easly listening to that through the night, LOL talking about find a needle in a hay stack you did it awesome , going to be another epic adventure.
Loved this series and your words of wisdom at the end, doing solos and the mental/emotional challenge they take. I solo also as a backpacker. It is always hard and always worth it. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Karen for the super thanks! I saw it first thing this morning and it totally made my day. I’m so glad you liked the words of wisdom. I was contemplating not putting it in, so it really helps when I hear I made the right decision and didn’t take it out. Thank you also for sharing your thoughts on soloing. Cheers !
Thanks for sharing this part of your adventure. So many times, side trips have been the most rewarding adventure, then there’s the other times. By the way, you just put to shame anyone who bragged about finding a needle in a haystack. You found one in a forest. I look forward to part two, be well my friend.
I have a feeling the water level was much higher back then? If you end up watching the rest of the series, I would definitely appreciate you letting me know? I start heading down the south lady Evelyn river in part four. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Now I understand your comment yesterday about the shoes...I don't really like mine. My old Scouter said to just buy cheap hiking boots and put holes in them, then you can canoe and portage comfortably. I usually change into my hiking boots for portaging.
I have two other newer, more amazing pairs of keen sandals that I wear to portage in. But I never wear them with my dry suit because there’s two layers on my feet, and I don’t want to stretch them out and ruin them for the rest of the season. Then I’d get blisters. I’ve had these keens since 2017 and they’ve been on a lot of trips with me and they have definitely earned their place in retirement. I would never wear my hiking boots on the portages I go on, they’re almost always wet or contain sucky muck, but that’s just my personal preference. I wear water sandals and water socks normally without the drysuit. Never had an issue. Are you saying you change into your hiking boots at the start of each portage ? Lots of ppl wear old sneakers also. I used to wear Canadian tire water shoes when I first started 21 yrs ago big those wouldn’t survive the terrain I’m in these days. 🤣🤣🤣
The outdoor community is always supportive of each other, so good call on pitching up for the night. I have learned the hard way with overuse injuries. Great video, thanks for sharing your Dash!!! - Davey.
Just wow! You are amazing. I made a couple of bad choices on my last trip and when solo the anxiety, fear, exhaustion and self doubt can sometimes get the better of you. So watching you just push through that was amazing. You are a Trooper and have been a great roll model for my step daughter who has startig taking an interest in the outdoors. Thank you! Looking forward to the rest of your trip.
I can’t love this comment enough. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. This is the kind of stuff that just makes me continue doing what I do. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but this just inspires me to keep going. You will love my little sappy speech in part six. Don’t miss it. Cheers!
Great sewing job and being creative. I think that is the cutest campsite yet. Good on you for knowing your limits and not pushing on, as that is when more mishaps happen. Hope you get rested for the next day. 😘
Fun series. Kudos for all your hard work dealing with all the portages. Curious why you pronounce the word portage, as Por-toz? Is that like saying Tar je vs Target? 😉 I heard you correct yourself on a different video after you said portage, you corrected it to Por-toz. Just curious where that pronunciation comes from? Good job keeping the joy in your heart to enjoy the journey ever step along the way.
Thanks so much for checking out the video and taking the time to comment. I’m glad you enjoyed it. There are two ways to say the word portage as far as I know. One is Canadian and one is American. Sometimes I say the American version just to see if people will notice. No idea why there is a difference between counties, but that’s just the way it is. When I do presentations in the USA I say the American pronunciation and sometimes it slips into my trip videos. Lol. Cheers! (Fyi I don’t say tar-jay, we don’t have them here. Lol)
@@CamperChristina Ok, thanks so much for the explanation. 😊I was wondering if it might be a french influence since some provinces are very french, but I don't believe Ontario is one of them if I remember correctly. I'm really loving your videos and it's making me miss "home" like crazy! Home for me is Wisconsin with lots of canoeing, kayaking and camping in both WI and upper Michigan. And the Boundary Waters once in Minnesota. I'm currently in San Diego which has it's own pleasures but I'm finding I need space away from people and just pure northern Mother Nature. Sadly I have no friends out here that like to camp either. Thanks for the quick reply! All the best to you! 💞
Back atcha. Sounds like you’re getting in tune with all the cool places. Enjoy and hope to hear from you again. FYI new comments are easier for me to find here. Cheers!
Despite making choices that made it harder, you also chose to take care of yourself when you needed to. I think that's actually a skill in itself; knowing when to call it and get some rest. Usually I binge watch, but I'm going to enjoy the episodes slowly instead!
The drysuit is really airtight, so it does help keep me warm because it keeps my body heat in. When I’m portaging and I start getting hot and I take the top down it helps keep my body temperature down.

Another great video 👍🏻

What an adventure. A drone might help with portage or risk it. Stay safe 🛶⛺️

Bwahaha. It’s only just begun and yeah I did!!!!! Bwahahaha you’re the best ! 🥰
You inspire me to do solo!
I’m glad to hear it. Have you been out yet alone? Thought I’d wait a few months and check back. 😊
Alright Alright Alright!!!! Here we go,
Lol. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow very exciting can't wait to continue. What an adventure so far.
Someone actually watched the entire series last night. I hope you enjoy the rest of the trip. Cheers!
Always relaxing to camp by a waterfalls, IMO. Time to rest after a rough day and get ready for the next day. :)
I stopped here just for you ! Lol. 😊😊😊

We used to do that trip in the 80's...when I was in my twenties and it was not a park.
