Hi, can anyone please tell me what the significance of an orange/amber flashing light is on some USA trucks in addition to reds & blues? In Australia we have them but they only operate when the appliance reaches a low water level when on the job. Thanks.
They're flashing lights. Their job is to make the apparatus highly visible. And no nation's fire departments do "Here I come. Get outta my way!" better than the Americans. I think the colour is irrelevant. I believe in the US it's just a matter of individual departments' preferences.

Per NFPA, all fire apparatus must have a rear amber light.
