David Zinn: Chalk Art Brought to Life

- David Zinn is an Ann Arbor artist known for his temporary street art composed entirely of chalk, charcoal and found objects that is entirely improvised on location. Most of these drawings (most notably "Sluggo") have appeared on sidewalks in Ann Arbor and elsewhere in Michigan, but some have surfaced as far away as subway platforms in Manhattan and construction debris in the Sonoran Desert. Zinn’s chalk work began in 2001 as an excuse to linger outdoors and pursue his inner-child, but has since achieved global notoriety.

David thank you so much for your workshop today in the ever sunny Seattle Where chalk dust never runs down the drain! Except when it does and folks draw a river to the Grate Artist full of fish swimming to our Maker as you whisper words of encouragement to all Creation. Hope springs eternal that you will deign to visit our fairly moist region again.

Have you ever come to our chalk festival in Lockport NY? There's a mixture every year of professional chalk artists, amateur artists, local high school, middle school and elementary school children that did well in art class the previous year can be presenters and everyone who can find room can draw in the free for all zone and the car that gets drawn on.
I like: Q "When did you start painting?" A: "The same moment you did, the question is, when did you stop painting"

You would make a BRILLIANT children's book artist!!! Even with your background in writing you could write the stories! In fact you could just use the side walk and the pictures you take of your work without having to make any lasting art! I'd definitely buy your work for my children!!!

That's awesome...where in Michigan are you???I use to live in benton harbor...St Joseph. ..right on the lake...always made a point to go to chalk the walk...im trying to get these young people to do the same cuz they keep sniveling they are board...
