  • Hey y’all, I’m tired of this guy so I used clips from mainly the video where he critiqued if that’s what you guys wanna call it, black blaze, utterly disregarded my narrative and made attacks and insults on me and tried to play himself as the victim and I wanted to point out that his audience are silly to keep buying into the things that he says, and does when it comes to the creation of comics, and/or manga or in his dumbass case MANAA
Because he’s a fraud and a grifter who will slander and tear down any number of creators no matter how big or small to build himself and his brand up and he needs to be stopped or at the very least reality checked
So hopefully the video is entertaining, funny and informative for you guys

I stopped watching that dude after he basically said every manga should look like dragon ball with extremely muscular characters, like you can't make any other body type for a male character in your manga no matter what or its weak/feminine etc. which is kind of a contradiction cause one of the people he's associated with literally has an MC with real feminine traits in his manga and he never said a damn thing about that person, I'm not gonna namedrop. I also remember when he made a rant video on Dragon Ball Daima putting it under fire based on a MERE teaser trailer back when we knew way less about it, judging it like it was a full fledged product which was real odd to me as someone of the type to judge something as an actual finished product.

Koffee comics just talks down to the people he critiques through their own works. Calling them rip offs of big dark shounen like JJK and CSM when the irony is just when his own works bites off a lot of things he holds dear like Berserk and Dragon Ball, without understanding what made them special to begin with (for the most part). This is coming from someone who wants to tell my own story for a key audience who i know will enjoy this and will get something out of it. Koffee Comics is one of the very last people I want to hear when it comes to giving feedback to on how to tell stories, let alone, his "standards" for manga or indie projects. He is such a hypocrite. And i am glad i am not the only one who feels that way about him (as a content creator).

    I think that managa ingredients list is really unhelpful in assessing what maked a story good;
it doesnt have to be familiar to be good something that your not accustomed to seeing can be good.
you dont have to relate to a character for them to be well written feeling empaty sympathy or understanding doesn't need relatablity, it doesnt have to be hopful either good narratives can still envoke dispear (a little ironic because he likes berzerk)
The only one i some what agree with is the last one, but even then, getting caught up on inspiring people rather than expressing what you want to express can be unhelpful.
I dont think these things are necessarily bad but acting like its the be all end all isnt helpful and doent allow for more open minded approaches when it comes to art and maybe that checklist mindest is the reason koffee acts how he does towards media😪

@@RodneyKing-kz3ym He probably is, remember we are apart of a global market. If he gets a sale from a Wyatt Smith in the U.S, it is unlikely the guy is an African. Koffee said in the comment section of his video, he receives most of his sales from western whites. Why? He lives in a 3rd world country. His books are too expensive for people in his country. The average South African is not going to spend his spare income on Indie comics. According to him they would rather spend it on alcohol or cooking oil. You know, more useful items, not picture books. Westerners have more disposable income to spend on books and entertainment.
Black Americans are different. We have the disposable income but make a small portion of the market. 12% of the U.S is black and a smaller percent is middle to upper class. Also your average black American might like Popular Shonen manga but that does not mean they will take the risk to buy you Indie comic that might be crap. Whites are still the spending majority in most western countries. Lil Wayne and Tyler Perry gets most of their money from Whites despite making a "black" product. You get more money that way.

except if you do a story they really want to read and at low cost, and accessible online, then sure.
A lot of African read comics, Mangas, etc, on pirated site because of low availability and price...Back in the day, When Bleach was popular (around 2006-2007) I remember one volume cost 14$, graphic novel 45$. It's a lot for us, since we can use this money for transport, food, etc.
He sound like he doesn't know what he wants, on one hand, ranting about his situation in SA, on an other one, criticizing other indie comic book creators, and he doesn't even understand the indie book market.

He'll probably make the argument that what you're critiquing is older artwork as well.
As far as I know, Koffee has re-done his 1st volume of Bloody Hell with improved artwork. I haven't read the update, but if it's anything like what he's shown in the past year as visuals for some of his videos, *it is* an improvement -- Just like what I can see in #9 of Black Blaze.
For example, From what I can see going through your comic, you're addressing the critique of the stiff posing in your more dialogue heavy scenes. They're more varied and have more personality.
It's not just about having different angles (though it helps) it's also about characters expressing what they're thinking and/or feeling through body language.
What I believe helps, is thinking of stronger, more character motivated/inspired verbs when drawing, depending on the context like:
    "slouching" instead of "sitting"
    "calculating" instead of "thinking"
    "dismissing" instead of "ignoring"
    ********
The use of slang is a fair critique.
Without context clues, not everyone is going to understand right away what the characters mean when they use slang. It can take people out of it I'll give you an example.
    guy1: Yo...Wagwan?
    guy2: I'm cheesed.
    guy1: 'Bout what?
guy2: Some random took his sweet time just to order a double double and now I'm late for my meeting.
    I'm from Toronto Canada.
    - Where you're from, do you say "wagwan" to say hello or ask how someone is doing? (specifically where I grew up, people also sprinkled in west indies slang)
    - Do you say "cheesed" to mean that you're upset?
    - Do you say "some random" to mean a person you don't know?
    - Is a coffee with 2 cream and 2 sugars a "double double" where you're from?
It's totally fine if that's how the characters speak. Like you said, it helps with characterization - what I understood with Koffee pointing it out is that, for immersion's sake, it sounds out of place for aliens to use human (Detroit specific like you said) slang.
I think the remedy is that your characters have their own unique slang/terms for things or to leave it out (the Detroit slang) unless your target audience speaks like that and/or understands it.
    ********
The names for characters being hard to pronounce is a fair critique.
Not everyone who reads your comic has English as their 1st language...and even then, it's not a guarantee that the reader will know how to properly pronounce character names on the 1st read.
For real, I was lost too until this moment in the video where you give the proper pronunciation of some of your characters -- and I'm a native English speaker.
Yes, I *could* take the time to sound it out...but I want to enjoy reading your comic, not wrestle with it. I would argue that it's *your job* as the author to make it as clear and pleasant of an experience as you can to keep the reader engaged reading your work.
    *******
Not seeing variety in character builds/proportions is a fair critique.
Though I would like the variety too for visual interest, I personally don't mind it too much because of the heavy focus on action this story has. Almost everyone is a hand to hand fighter, so I don't mind that the builds are similar to each other.
What *does* separate the characters from each other are their silhouettes and costumes, which I think you're doing a great job with.
    *******
Compositions looking flat is a fair critique. When looking at your panels, there is a heavy focus on your characters and the backgrounds feel like an after thought. This makes it hard to tell where characters are in the environment and relation to one another.
For example, in #9 of Black Blaze during Magnus' flashback, the backgrounds of the destroyed city are mostly in a 1 point perspective and the characters don't really stand on the ground --- they are composed in a way where it feels like they're meant to stand apart from their surroundings and not actually be in the environment.
This stands out the most for me when Flarre is introduced. Especially on page 9 with the red outline you gave her.
Some tutorials I found helpful were:
"Putting Your Figures In Perspective Quickly by Dan Lawlis" (YT channel: how to draw comic books by Dan Lawlis)
"How To Draw Figures in Perspective" (YT channel: David Finch)
    *********
Now this part isn't on you, but Global Comics.
it seems like it favours webtoon-styled formatting over traditional style....I have to zoom out the webpage so that I can properly take in your work as intended (and I think it'd look best if you can see 2 pages at a time, rather than 1). Perhaps its a personal thing, but for me, it's an inconvenience
Do you know if there are any other sites that cater more to a traditionally formatted comic book? As of right now, all I know of is comikey.com -- but it's geared to manga, and I don't think just anybody can upload.
    *********
Now I know that this video is reactionary and raw for entertainment purposes, but it *does* look like it's coming from a place of weakness, not strength.
--- That because Koffee called you a hunchback....what stands out from the video is that you're hurt for being called a hunchback -- Even though you try your best to address the critiques he made of the chapter of your comic and not insult him personally or his character....you end up doing it anyways.
Am I saying you shouldn't call out someone when they're disrespectful?
    No.
You should, and I applaud you for not taking it. Because, at least from what you've shown online, I wouldn't say you're a hunchback as Koffee defines it.
....to me, it's just that you don't respect him as a person, so you're not willing to receive his feedback when it comes to him critiquing your art. This is just my perspective based on your interview with him and this video.
Cuz to me, the vibe you give off is that you do enjoy the competition and you genuinely care and want to continually get better at your craft - and at the same time, help others do the same by passing on what you're learning.
I do agree. Most of Koffee's content is "rage-bate". And I agree, he goes after people like Whyt Manga and DD Mark way too much for my liking.
Though he does this, he *does* point out inconsistences, false advertising and hypocrisy in what they and others like them in the indie space are seemingly accustomed to doing when it comes to living and making a living as comicbook creators and publishers.
I admit, that one of the reasons why I got on to his content is because *I am* upset of the state of visual storytelling and how stories in the mainstream are more and more hedonistic or nihilistic in their messaging.
It *is* demoralizing because it embraces and promotes degenerate behaviour and rejects objective moral and creative standards.
And I would prefer hearing more about Koffee's progress, thoughts and development when it comes to his own and his group's projects.
I think these are fair critiques of his content. But he makes what he makes, in style that he makes it.
In his own terms, I was a hunchback *and* a zombie.
I'm late to the game compared to where you guys are at, but I would say his content, and from some in his camp *did* inspire me to stop being idle and do something about my dreams of producing comics.
And I'm inspired by your work too.
Very long comment, I know...but I care about the space and want it to be healthy for everyone -- I do hope and pray the rivalry will remain a healthy one where you're encouraged to become better and better....that you "coming for Koffee" like you said in a previous video, is you creating superior stories and artwork and better sales.

I'm not gonna read all your comment, but one point I want to talk about, you and koffee also sometimes mentions "It is demoralizing because it embraces and promotes degenerate behaviour and rejects objective moral and creative standards." which in my eyes is kinda a stupid take, like comic and manga is a free medium, everyone can create thus there is something for everyone, you cant just generalize by saying it is demoralizing it makes no sense.

My question is about the messaging. The lessons and values shared in comic and manga stories....
I agree with you, people ought to have the right to make what they want.
However, because I believe that there is absolute right and wrong, not every message, not every lesson, not every value is *good*.
I believe that right now in the mainstream, there's more bad than good.
Do you believe that the comics and manga that are currently popular or promoted have good lessons for life, or bad?

    • @wivyYA
      @wivyYA 12 днів тому +3

@@StevePadmore Sorry for long reply, TL:DR: Shounen Manga's have a wieder audience, thus they are the most popular ones, since many people can read them, Seinen manga that have deeper meanings then just "this guy wants to destroy something I like, so I have to fight to save it" still exist, but they just have a smaller audience then shounen.
For Long: There are good ones and bad ones, but it’s not always as simple as black and white, things exist in every shade of gray. Take the classic moral dilemma of the train, five people are tied to one track, and one person is tied to another. Would you switch the train’s direction to save the five and sacrifice the one, or do nothing and let it run over the five, avoiding personal involvement? This question alone illustrates that issues aren’t always a matter of clear right or wrong.
Fiction, for the most part, isn’t created to teach moral lessons, it’s meant to entertain. There are good manga, and there are bad manga. Take Attack on Titan, for example. It delves deep into the psychology of its characters. Is Eren a villain for trying to destroy his enemies? Yes, because genocide is obviously not the ideal solution, and the story reflects this by portraying Eren in a negative light as he grapples with his choices and as the supporting character try to stop him.
Many of today’s most popular manga don’t even take place in our world. They’re often fantasy-based battle shounen series that aren’t designed to tackle real-world moral dilemmas. Criticizing these works for lacking a moral stance misses the point-they exist to provide escapism. People read them to enjoy exciting battles and take a break from the complexities of daily life. They’re looking for simple, accessible entertainment.
For those seeking deeper stories that engage with moral questions, there are plenty of Seinen manga that explore complex psychological themes. These stories dive into characters’ struggles as they wrestle with questions of right and wrong, offering more nuanced takes on ethical dilemmas.
It’s important to remember that the most popular manga tend to be shounen because they appeal to a broader audience. However, there’s still a wide variety of Seinen manga available that explore all kinds of themes, offering something for every taste.

He then got mad at an april fools video the same youtuber made about getting into shonen jump. Besides that, he hates male k pop singer for no reason besides looking feminine or "sissies" as he says and claims that manga protagonist like deku who look like them are the problem with modern shonen. Where's the better in that? he literally names those vids rants just so he can hate for no reason besides his own personal gripes, He also turned off the comments on the Saturday am exposed vid where he called the CEO the full n-word, with the ER at the end. Your whole speech about being better and this guy being childish doesn't mean much when koffee does the same shit, other members of their studio do that shit on Twitter comments too. If Manaa does succeed then cool, but just like SaturdayAM they're going to end up getting exposed at some point because of their digital footprint, and they're just going to act the same as Satam did, claim it's all just liars and trolls (which koffee is already doing)

its also weird how he consistently targets DDMark up until recently(FYI I don't like DDMark either), even seji has started to target him on his UA-cam and twitter which is just weird and almost to the point of stalker behavior when he replies to DDmarks fans on twitter (before he deleted it ) saying DDmark doesn't care about them

You're lame for this and misinformed because koffee in no shape or form is the head huncho of onsol-go, they changed the name and if you really "rocked" with them like you claim then you would've known this wouldn't spread bad info. This is a pointless clout chasing vid.

@@Bishop_Goto i get the sentiment, but art *is* objectively good or bad.
If it weren't true, Sinverse or Koffee couldn't critique each other's art.
And they would have no real way to recognize what they're doing right, and what they're doing wrong as they become better artists.
There would be no reason to learn principles of art and design (principles grounded in reality) if "art is subjective".
What *is* subjective, is your enjoyment of the of the piece... because the art could be a technical masterpiece, yet you might not like it based on your preferences.
Sorry, it just really bothers me that this lie is always circulated through art spaces - unaware how damaging it really is when you think about it.

@@StevePadmore Art, including comic art, is both subjective and objective.
Subjectively, individuals have their own unique ways of interpreting and experiencing art, and what one person considers beautiful or meaningful may be different from another person's perspective. Art can evoke emotional, personal, and cultural reactions that vary from person to person.
Objectively, there are certain elements, techniques, and principles in art that can be evaluated and critiqued from a technical standpoint. For example, the use of color, composition, anatomy, and storytelling techniques in comic art can be assessed based on established criteria and standards.
