Just bought my first scroll saw. I've bought a cheap one (Einhell TSS 405) to see if this is something I'd like to get into and while I've yet to set it up and start playing, I'm sure I will enjoy it where I'll be buying a larger and better one. I've so far only seen 3D name blocks where you remove the centre parts and this has increased what I thought was possible with one of these tools. Really looking forward to having a play and learning more. Many thanks from near Exeter :)

I've owned and used the Axminster Trade 21" version of that excellent scroll saw for over 4 years now and I am highly delighted with its high standard of manufacture and use. One thing that I do hate, however, is the fact that only Axminster decided to add an annoying NVR (No-Volt Release) switch on the back of their version of this universal machine.
Other brands of this machine (all made in the same factory in Taiwan as this one is), e.g. Excalibur, Pégas, etc, have resisted the urge to add an NVR switch on their versions of this unit. Instead they prefer (as I do) to use a foot-switch for an immediate on/off function. With the NVR switch you have to let go of the workpiece with one hand to operate that remote switch. With a foot-switch you can keep both hands on the project and simply use your foot to instantly stop the blade from oscillating. This is a far more important safety feature than an unnecessary remote NVR switch.
As a direct consequence I have removed the NVR switch on my scroll saw and replaced it with a foot-switch. This added level of safety and convenience has enhanced my already high level of admiration for this top quality machine.
