    I didn't think this would have to be said - but please do not try and force switches out of a soldered switch mechanical keyboard... This is for hot swap keyboards which means the switches are removable!

      I have the RK61 and everywhere I look it says non-hotswap, but mine came with extra switches and a switch puller. I was also able to pull out a switch and put it back with no problem.

    NOTE - You can use a plastic spudger or something plastic to also do this. It will have less of chance of scratching. I didn't think about scratching during the video because it's a review keyboard and not one of my lovely keebs lol. Sorry :)
    I will be releasing a lot more tutorials along with more interesting videos soon so don't mind the spam ;) Enjoy!

Unfortunately I broke the housing for two switches when trying to remove them before I decided to look this up, but the flathead method from the bottom up works a lot better for me than the switch puller they provide in the box.

    I've seen a lot of people asking if they're keyboard is hot swappable, the short answer is, 99% of the time if a keyboard is hotswappable it will be heavenly advertised as it is a big selling point, if your still not sure or have an old keyboard and not sure if it's advertised simply google the model/keyboard and check, AND MAKE SURE 100% IT'S HOTSWAPPABLE BEFORE PULLING ON ANYTHING!!!

  • @OutlawNix
    @OutlawNix Рік тому

    I started using Mechanical Keyboards when they became popular. Over the years I used Mechanical Keyboards from Logitech, Corsair, Razer and course with a brand name you pay for that name. Course none of them I owned had hot-swappable switches. So when you started to have issues with the switches on the keyboard it was time for a whole new keyboard. The thing is none of the Mechanical Keyboards I ever owned lasted more then 2 years. It was all ways the WASD switches and left shift switch wearing out. lol
    Now I got smart I ended up buying a 60% Mechanical Keyboard that is hot-swappable capable. The Mechanical Keyboard I bought comes with red switches and should be here on Monday. All the Mechanical Keyboards I ever owned either used Green, Red, Blue switches. Never used any other switches besides those three colors.
    I'm thinking about getting some yellow switches for the 60% Mechanical Keyboard at some point and give those a try.

    Thanks my man.. Just got my first mechanical keyboard today with some extra switches and just wanted to check a vid or two before just diving in head-first and possibly screwing something up. Simple, factful, to the point. I like that.
    The extra keys I got came with a proper key puller so I think I'll play it safe and just use that over a screw driver. Oh, and that's interesting about how you can convert a 5-pin to a 3-pin safely by doing what you did. Mine a 3-Pins. Question: can you use 3-pins on a 5-pin board? Does it work that way the same way? (Since there's nothing there already.. or, do those extra two holes have to have contacts inserted in all 5 to work? Curious.)

    Hey JUJU could you maybe Help me? I got myself a Redragon K552 and bought the Ajazz Banana Switches. Everything was fine until i noticed the q key is not working ( had to search for the key and copy paste it). I tried to take off the switch and it was a bit harder than usual. Then i noticed the metal pin broke off and got stuck. It is hotswappable and you can mod it. But now i cant get the metal pin off? Should i just send it back and get myself a new one or should i try to get it out? I tried already with a thin sewing needle to get it out but with no succes.

      You need to open the whole keyboard up and push the pin out from the other side. You could try and get some tweezers to get it out.
      Goodluck!

    Thanks! Mine needed quite a lot of brute force but I got there in the end! My "a" key was faulty and swapping the switch worked out!

    Looking to convert a keyboard to have hot swappable switches. Know where they sell the hotswap jacks?

    Hi! I need a bit of help. I tried pulling out a key switch because the top housing of the switch for some reason was loose, so I wanted to pull the whole switch out to look at it. When I attempted to pull it out, only the top part of the switch came out and now the bottom seems stuck to the plate and PCB. What should I do to try and get the bottom part out? Thanks!!

    Is it possible to remove switches with broken plastic? I broke 3 but I easily removed the other switches btw I broke ASD (they are still working) but other letters are easily removed
