MrRhubarbs you killed everything to do with motorsports
Give credit to Pagenaud's spotter, this was a piece of art.
Absolutely awesome! Pagenaud and Rossi made a great duel! Clean and exciting rivalry! What a great race!
Easily the best 500 in the last 5 yrs.

And THAT, my friends is how the Indy 500 is supposed to end!
Yes, I feel like this ending doesn’t get talked about enough
Very nice Indy 500 finish. Congratulations Simon Pagenaud's.
@Serial Killer You think that oval circles is easy? Take a car of indycar and run in 231 mph. I believe that you go to erase the underpants.
An EPIC moment in history, this race gave me goosebumps
Randy Hutchinson haha.. may need to read history books more
The last 3 laps were insane.
Bravo Simon, first French to win the Indy 500 since 1914 with René Thomas !!!
Nous sommes tous fiers de toi.Merci Simon!!
Godspeed !!
Ironic that Simon drives a Chevrolet powered car and the last Frenchman to win was Gaston Chevrolet...99 years ago, pretty awesome!

It was 1920 buddy.
Gil de Ferran won in '03
Pagenaud did a great job breaking the draft, something that Rossi wasn’t able to do, and that gave Pagenaud the win. What a battle!
LET'S TALK So I guess the second place guy moving to try to stay in the draft of the first place car and the first place car moving all around to break the draft of the second place car is for no reason. The reason the draft doesn’t bunch cars up at Indy is because they don’t have restrictor plates/aero ducts.
@@LETSTALKENTERTAINMENT indy cars make a huge wake because of the downforce. Also, the speed at which they're going makes the pocket exponentially larger
It really came down to the chevy having more power
@@marksnyder6600 Honda engines were getting great fuel milage. Pagenaud got a huge break with that caution at the end. I knew Rossi didn't have a chance, he almost pulled it off
@@miguelbarrero5572 Exactly! The final caution allowed Pagenaud to run full power and that's estimated to be 30-40 more HP than the Honda. If not for that final caution, Pagenaud would have to have been in fuel-save until the end and Rossi would have easily won. Like they say, I would rather be lucky than good any day.
Watching Rossi on that redemption run the last bunch of laps was amazing. Congrats to Pagenaud tho 👏
itsJoseppi Why didn’t he block simon? He just let him go by like it was practice
@@nathanielhiggerson7679 my guess is it had to do with how their cars stacked up. Simon had the draft and could have gone around his block probably...I really dont know haha
This race, even after all the safety enhancements of the track and cars, is still a race where safety is prayed for.
These drivers are like warriors. Immense respect to all of them, even those who tried to qualify but failed because many drivers are too scared to even try to race at Indy.
Yeah, it's such an insane achievement to even qualify for the Indy 500 let alone race it. Anyone who is willing to race it has balls of steel.
These are the new glory days for IndyCar. Just remarkable.
Seems like pit road was more dangerous than the track this year. Good clean race, only one single car and one multi-car wrecks, pit road was like bumper cars (and tires)
Stephen Britton is ””PIT STOP OR PIT BOX
@@MrMundo3d BOTH!
Visor is a good step, and will be a positive, but it would likely have not saved Dan Weldon, or reduced Wicken's injuries. I'm not trying to down play it, just make sure its understood for what it is. The HALO of F1 would have likely been more useful in both these incidents, but is ABSOLUTELY incompatible with banked track racing.
two problems caused most of the issues this year:
1) an F1 driver has the same pit stall all race weekend. At Indy (unlike the rest of the season) they have one pit stall all month until the friday before the race when they were changed to qualifying order, so you had drivers used to one spot now going somewhere else. The rest of the season, its only 2-3 days so they never develop a muscle memory on a pit box and then have to unlearn.
2) the pit in is much shorter than at an F1 (or really most road courses) so they are just getting down to pit speed when they enter. If they mess up, they slide onto pit road, but at a road course, well think about how Hamilton lost that championship on pit in...
Alonso: Where is Kaiser?
The one McLaren guy that just stayed behind: He has retired.
Alonso: *KARMA*
No that’s Kimoa
Shame Alonso didn't have Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash for him in qualifying eh
Rory426 lol
@@Rory426 you're talking mad sh*t for someone in my black flack distance
i was looking for this comment Lol
I loved the end when the other drivers all drive by the winner and give him a thumbs up and congrats. I don't watch Indy car often so this may be pretty common, but its the first time Ive seen them do that.
jeremybr2020 it’s pretty common
IndyCar is absolutely amazing! Congrats Simon!
@@xaviermartin4638 f1 qualifying is more entertaining than this. F1 had really good races this season, I don't get how people find oval racing fun, it's just passing someone because of slipstream and then getting overtaken because of slipstream
I would have loved to see Ed Carpenter get this, but his car just didn't have it at the last stint. Congrats to Simon. Great show today.
Yea... Ed is gonna get it one of these years. He's right on the doorstep... Pagenaud and his car were just too good today!
I thought it was surely a delay on the position board when Sato showed up fourth out of nowhere.
I'd have to try really hard to recall any recent comeback more impressive than this.
Harry Sadler And then he drove by Carpenter AND Newgarden! I don’t think it’s a stretch to say the guy might be a championship contender this year
Sato gave me a little scare. We all like the little guy, but we also know he is friends with the wall. If he wiped out he'd easily bring Simon and/or Alex with him. Glad to see Sato with some restraint.
Dude, Sato is crazy at Indy I was at the race and when Sato came out of nowhere I honestly thought something was wrong.
@@ceeam - Montoya was dead last early in the race... and then he won his 2nd Indy 500.
There’s loads of moments missing here. Rossi’s move on Bourdais, Rossi getting squeezed for the first time by Oriol, Sato’s charge through the field right near the end.
I’m an F1 fan but this was a very exciting race. What’s with the pit stops though, they were very dangerous.
The dangerous and potentially life-threatening pit stop situation in this race was outrageous. The servicing of the cars is not supposed to be a blood sport. I hope they take a good hard look at this matter and issue some stiff penalties and meaningful reforms.
X Million yeah pit stop safety is probably one of the few areas of safety f1 seems to be ahead of indy in
Look for changes to be made as a result. I personally think the car should be stopped before being able to leave the wall.
@@bryanauyeung7644 - Agreed, I prefer F1 as well. The pit stations here seem very poorly defined compared with those in F1. I'm sure that had something to do with the miscues, but the careless driving was atrocious.
Bryan AuYeung F1 is ahead of Indy in every area, especially safety lol, indycar is so inferior in many ways and thats just beacuse f1 have massive budgets
Wow, even this 16 minute version was absolutely thrilling!
Even this 16 minute version? A highlight reel is always more exciting, by definition. That's why they are called highlights.
Disagree. It’s the investment in characters or competitors that makes something thrilling which is directly tied to the time you spend with them. I’d be more thrilled if I watched the entire race than this 16 min compilation and even less thrilled if I saw a 3 min highlight reel. This compilation was thankfully long enough to engage and invest me in the race and competitors enough to make it a thrilling watch!
My first Indy was 1982 Gordon Johncock vs Rick Mears, there is nothing like being at that track just an energy you feel!
I’m an F1 man at heart but huge respect to these guys. You need serious skill and big, big, cojones to drive these cars flat out at the brickyard.
Not as much skill as f1, but still real athletes
This year's Indy 500 field of drivers had to be the most skilled in a long time.
I haven't watched racing of any kind since the popularity of NASCAR, but this race was awesome!!! So much action and great finish. Made me a racing fan again!
9:21 Wall: "Ericsson hit me"
James G was it Verstappen?
Wanted Rossi to win but man what a freaking race. Start to finish! Those last 10 laps were insane. Congrats to Simon
In striking contrast was the boring, processional Monaco Grand Prix. Too much hype for a race that inspires nothing but yawns.
Sato is one of the best drivers no cap
He's on the Borg-Warner trophy too, to prove it. 2017?
He’s a crazy Ninja showing up in third like that out of nowhere
Marshall Smith he drives much more calculated now then when he first entered Indycar. It’s like he just started hitting his peak. Such a good driver!
isn't he an old man now?
@@CSLFiero yeah. 40+ i guess
Thanks for posting the vid.
That was briliant!
This race made me watch the rest of the season. Never watched Indy except for the 500. I am now a huge IndyCar fan and will be rooting for Rossi for years to come. Really excited for next year
What a finish. Goosebumps.
That Pagenaud/Rossi head to head ending was epic
8:36 "I think Ericsson hit us!"
Eli Hoopengarner I was waiting for this comment
Nice to see another f1 one guy. Us f1 fans should go as a group to the next 500.
Rossi fought like a demon. Deserved it in so many way. Honestly lucky to come away with podium.
This was so exciting to watch, can't say the same for 90% of F1 races
Today's F1 race was fun, but some people enjoy watching cars turning to the left and I'm respectfull about that
Some people like "racing" where most the action takes place in the pit stops and the finishing order is copy-pasted race to race... Monaco was a fluke. I'm respectful about that.
Carlitox b It’s about driver vs. driver, not driver vs. track. Could you use your thinking cap for once? 🤦♂️
@@carlitoxb110 The Indy 500 is extremely exhausting for the drivers because they have to keep cool at constant high speeds while having their eyes almost everywhere. A spotter might be a small help, but it's still the drivers that make the decisions.
So the whole thing is a bit more than just "A bunch of cars turning left"
What a difference in excitement between Monaco and Indy.
I still don't find the Indy really that good, full of amateurs and dumb mistakes. At least in Indy there is some rivalry and not just mercedes overlord lul
@@marcosulla Yeah, especially in the pits.
Marcos Ulla Amateur? Winning prize is $2.5 million

Best Indy Finish I've Seen! Congrats Simon Pagenaud!
Great finish, great duel, great winner. Bravo Simon🇫🇷🇫🇷 !!
Whoever did this, thank you for taking the time to edit this race.
I love F1 but they would never
That has to be one of the best Indy 500's I've ever watched! Been watching since the late 70's, so that is saying a lot! Incredible back and forth at the end, and Pagenaud holding him off the final 2 laps. Definitely the guy who deserved to win it came out on top! Couldn't have asked for anything better out of this race...
Thanks so much for these videos! Couldn't stand this for 3 or more hours.
Is that your way of subtly saying that you much prefer to watch the 2 hours of a single file F1 car parade?
Geez Louise, I wish Indy 500 starts earlier than Monaco GP yesterday, alas it was already 2 AM in my country when Indy 500 started, 95% of full throttle race, just awesome 👍👍👍
I cant stand all this action and excitement i should go back to watch the Spanish F1 GP.
i think you mean the 2019 French GP
I don't get how this is entertaining, but that's just my opinion. It's just getting slipstream and going in front and behind
I love this race I been watching since 94 I wish the sport had more respect
So proud of Pagenaud!!! He's my Indy driver and I was hoping and hoping he'd win! He drove an amazing race and killed it all month--go go go Simon go!!!
Love Indi 500, wish NASCAR was as much fun, great 2019 Indi 500.
As someone who has known Simon since his arrival to Indycar, and was a fan before that, there is not a nicer, harder working, more talented, or more deserving driver of this win anywhere in the paddock. Congratulations, Simon! You are an Indianapolis 500 Champion! God bless.
That was a fantastic finish. Actually for the most part they have been great battles at the end for the last few years now.. bravo!
Yes enfin un vainqueur Français bravo Simon Pagenaud
Exciting race. I need to get back to seeing it live.
thanks for posting.
Simon is a class act too. Took the win to the fans before he went to the winner's circle. Very cool, I thought.
Outstanding job Simon! 🏁🇫🇷
watching indycar i always got that weird feeling in my stomach. it´s just so exciting and looks way more dangerous than any other motorpsort competition
I have to agree.
Open wheel cars and tight high speed oval(ish) racing can be disastrous.
Seeing Wheldon's fatality live didn't help me any :(
This and Group B rally are super awsome to watch, tho Group B was a WHOLE level of dangerous
LOL ever heard of a thing called F1? This season hasn't been the greatest admittedly but holy moly racing F1 used to be suicide.
@@danielchirvasuta6081 True, but i'd say Group B was just as dangerous, even as a spectator you weren't safe
@@roadtrip4690 oh absolutely. Group B was insane. Unfortunately for gear heads the likes of it won't ever happen again as much as everyone would love to see rules thrown out the window but at least we aren't losing dozens of drivers a season. Same with f1.
Both this race and the Monaco GP were much more exciting than expected. Great day for motorsport!
One of the most exciting Indy's 500 I've seen.
Rossi showing admirable grit and determination, Pagenaud just had a flawless race and a fast car, great battle!
And out of nowhere Sato was creeping at the end too!
5 more laps and who know's what would have happened? exitement till the end.
Great racing today big emotions of take breath
Thanks for making a more exciting race than F1 today
it was actually quite exciting for monaco
Filippo Soraperra Agreed. Now I’m watching the NASCAR Coca Cola 600. Lots of racing today! 🙌
Filippo Soraperra for F1 standards it was exciting but to me this race was better :)
Adamas at the local short track there is a huge race too. Big race day today :)
@@nickford13 ill give you that. Very close finish.
This was my 1st indy 500 & I love it
Just watched this and the 2018 Indy 500 finish, and NBC blew ESPN in the dust!
Guessing ESPN covered it last year?
@@kellyb410 ESPN and ABC have covered it since the beginning, really. This was NBCs first year and they knocked it out of the park.
That was maybe the best 500 since Little Al vs Scott Goodyear. Loved the coverage. Danica and Jr. Did great. Would love to see more crossover between the series' somehow.
Very nice summary, thanks !!
First French winner since Gaston Chevrolet in 1920.
I Believe Gaston was Swiss. Born in France maybe. Swiss nationality.
@@seigelno7...ya, he was brother of Louis Chevrolet who started the Chevrolet Motor Company in the US.

LazerC4 he said it’s a plane
I have music for this hold on
Bravo simon French be proud
That was a great race. First time I've watched it live in many years.
If Rossi doesn’t have a problem with his fueling, Rossi wins the race.
No because the frequent safety car negates all the big time differences. In the end this cost him positions, but not that much time.
It would have been a different race for sure, but to say that he would have won is going too far.
And besides, the team is an actor in the race, they're as important as a good driver.
Amicaze 95 well, he would have been farther up on the restart, giving him a better edge near the end.
He got the commentator curse
I don't know much about racing or NASCAR or F1 but this looks way more exciting than any Super Bowl. I would like to attend this race one day. And that crowd!
While I've never been to Indy myself, I have been to a fair share of races over the years and I absolutely recommend going if you have the chance! There's nothing like being there in person. It truly lives up to its name as the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. There's a reason it brings in 400K people every year!
I went to this race and it was the first Indy 500 I had been too and I definitely recommend going at least once. Can't wait to go back.
I love the safety with the windscreen but these cars looked so beautiful before they added the screen
Wow great racing this year
What is the blimp and did the Jets flyover I’m sure they did they always do I was hoping the F22 would give you a show
Fantástico !! Isso sim é uma corrida de verdade ,os carros são mais bonito que da F1 e muito mais emoção
Tv doesn’t give how fast these cars go enough credit. These cars are blink and you’ll miss it fast.
Yeah, they should include shots as someone standing by the wall might see it; cars just flashing by. It's the same for F1 and many of the other racing series; zoomed-out tracking shots are basically designed to make it look slow ...
Amazing drivers
Even better than F1 honestly
What a finish. Indy 500 Delivers again.
Amazing race, Pagenaud started POLE AND HE LED EASY, His idea to cut the slipstream on the straight. Awesome duel. CONGRATS MY MAN
