Thank you for putting this complicated TCC into something so simple to understand. I like the way that you used the fans to illustrate how all the various components inside the whole TCC assembly work. Also the way you explained how each and every of the component works in the various stages and how they are engaged to perform its intended function is really awesome.
This is a good test. I have discovered 5 torque converters that the hydraulic function was faulty. In fact I have one that I received today that failed the test. Will not install it. Will order another one. P0771 is the other code that will set if this test fails. Something must be wrong in the remanufacture process of these torque converters. I hope the remanufacturers resolve this one quickly.
can you do this while in the car? My TC just grumbles when in D stopped at a light. Works fine after that but no noise in R or P/N. And it kinda makes a differential mesh sound off and on while its coming up top speed, load related. almost like my diff backlash is loose in rear wheel drive terms.
Would that torque converter bench test also work on other transmissions besides the Ford and Mazdas, provided you knew which holes to block for the front of the torque converter and the pump?
Did the P0741 ever come back again? I have performed 3 times- Drain and Fill, change transmission filter and change the TCCs but it works for few months and the P0741 come back again. I think it may be wires related on my case. (2007 Toyota Corolla)

King, this could be an internal transmission problem, I would find a reputable transmission shop and have them diagnose it.

It can only be done with the transmission removed, on the bench.
Does this apply to Opel Insignia?
Oh great so when i take my car to a shop they are probably gonna fix one thing and i'll have to keep coming back until they figure it out?

We have not tried, but I would think so.
I paid $1700 to get my transmission rebuilt because of the P0741 Code.
