The great music and talent of yesteryear is smaller all the time. The stories today don’t touch the heart and soul. There are a few however country isn’t the same, so sad. Thank goodness I have my old music to listen too. Great song!

I watch this nightly just before bedtime. It's the ritual now! This video clip of Melba Montgomery singing 'No charge' brings me warm shivers of joy and great comfort, as this is what true Country music was all about. I grew up listening to this. It reminds me of my happy upbringing & all the weekend parties my mum & dad held at their house. Pure Class! My dad sadly passed away in 1986, but my dear mother still rocks at the age of 85. She came to Nashville with me last year, & we'll be going back again this year. Keep this amazing music alive. xx

When I needed help with paying some of my household bill's and asked my 18 year old son who lives with me for help, he made the comment to me some thing along the line's of "taking his money"
I found this song that I remembered as a child and it so touched my heart, I also broke up our bill's for the house and cut it in half. I wrote him a letter with that and this song as a reference for him to think over.
I'm thankful I never needed to share this with him because of that. I'm proud to say that my son now very willingly pays for our groceries, pet food and more!! I went back though my computer and was happy to delete that letter!!
What a great song and how very true for a parents point of view!! Ya, she got it oh so very right. "The Full Cost Of My Love Is No Charge!!"
    God bless, Eric Van Vorst
Very proud dad of Joshua Van Vorst

Agree with myrice ,but unfortunately today's generation don't seem to appreciate what their parents do for them ,they predominantly live in a world of expectations, on a happier note I believe that of all the female singers that George Jones recorded with Melba Montgomery was and is my favorite, I just love their harmonies

I'll risk it - there's been enough time. I met Melba at Pete Drake's studio to write an article about her for a New York country magazine. We got on well and I'd followed her for years. So I was there when the follow-up was recorded, as was Harlan. Harlan's song was recorded, only to find a formula Foster/Rice song had been chosen. Nashville politics had triumphed again. I followed a furious Harlan as he strode off down the road but he didn't want to talk to anybody. Even Harlan Howard couldn't beat Nashville politics . And I bet Melba had no say at all.

Melba was great, as usual. This was a bit melodramatic and saccharine for me, but the recitation is something missing from today's country music. The great jazzman Charlie Parker, was asked why he listened to C& W, when the music was so simple. He said "The stories, man, the stories" Amen. "Real" (non-commercial radio) country tells stories better than any other form I have heard.
